    I think there's a trade-off between a solitaire game system's admin level and how smart it is. The old VG Ambush system took a ton of maintenance but left you feeling like you were playing a smart human opponent; AH's B17 was way simpler but left you feeling you were just chucking dice. I've yet to try the Undaunted solo system (it's on my shelf of shame) but I look forward to giving it a spin

    Negotiation in games you say? That’s why Diplomacy is my favorite game of all time! Game of Thrones (FFG) aside, I just wish there was another game out there that captured that negotiation plus secret orders mechanic. Not quite the same, but I’m about to order a deluxe copy of War of Whispers. Should be fun!

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer
      @TheDiscriminatingGamer  Před 2 lety +3

      War Room has negotiation and secret orders, although it’s a bit different that GoT or Diplomacy. In fact, Larry Harris partially based the design on Diplomacy.

      @@TheDiscriminatingGamer Of course you’re right. Unfortunately I’m foggy on War Room - not because I don’t own it but because my copy arrived two weeks before the pandemic and I have yet to gather enough people in one room to play it… well I could get the people but then my wife (who works in the medical field) would hand me divorce papers lol

    Thank you for your review. I am a chess player and love the mental challenge it provides. For variety I thought I should try a war game. Undaunted is one I am considering. But I have also looked at Memoir 44. Which game will give me the greatest challenge and complexity?

      @hairbrainedgames3127 Před 2 lety +4

      Same. It hasn't even remotely been an issue. They're reprinting them, and I signed up for them, so I consider that a big plus for Osprey for doing that. But even if they hadn't, I'd still not be impeded in enjoying the game because of it.

      @@TheDiscriminatingGamer May comment was in repsonse to your statement that the four-player version is the best way of playing this game. I meant to say that much of the friction which historical wargamers love can be achieved by dividing the troops of the two sides into smaller "subdivisions" and giving them to multiple players on both sides. Coordination breaks down more often than not and you begin to understand the problems of the real CnCs. Many two-player games have rules restricitng your ability to react and switch plans. With multiple players on each side, you almost do not need these rules.

      @@TheDiscriminatingGamer From what I understood in the updated rules, you can flip a scout token to a control even if an enemy is there, but you can't do it if it's BOTH already controlled by the opponent AND an enemy unit is there, updating from original Normandy where you couldn't flip a scout into a control if an enemy was present.

      I didn't find that to be an issue with my set, the only thing I noticed was that the cards were a very slightly different size than the cards from Normandy and North Africa. Sleeving solved that issue easily. Osprey is offering replacement cards for those who have this issue.

    Hi - I have a quick question that's going to seem pretty random. I'm trying to compile a database of online reviewers' various Top 100s (or 40s, or whatever) of all time. The more data I have (including knowing what games were considered and rejected), the better. I'm certainly including your Top 100, but I'd like to include Zac's as well. Do you know if he rates games on BGG, and if so, what his username is?
    And do you plan on issuing a Top 100 for 2022? Your last one was more than a year ago, so you're due. :)
    Thanks!

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer
      @TheDiscriminatingGamer  Před 2 lety

      I don’t believe Zac rates his games on BGG (and I only do it sporadically). I don’t think I’ll do a top 100 this year. A lot of work. Maybe next year. Best of luck with your database. Let me know when it’s ready.

      @@TheDiscriminatingGamer GMT needs to fix that issue, especially their errata issues. Imperial Struggle is a good example. They missed issues pointed out to them online regarding the graphics on the game board. The company spent a small fortune fixing the issue with the graphics, by sending out stickers to everyone who bought Imperial Struggle, myself being one of those people. Included with the package I received from GMT, are some stickers, cards and player aids for 'All Bridges Burning', a COIN game. Other games they have developed have had these issues.

    Got all three boxes, cool game, although the ability to attack from anywhere on the map can make it quite a “attack that one unit non stop” type of strategy. Did you notice the same?

    • @Tuxedoian
      @Tuxedoian Před 2 lety +2

      That's a possibility, but by doing that you allow other units to advance towards objective points unmolested. Also, remember that you add +1 to the target number for each tile the shot has to cross the border of to get to the target. So while yes, you COULD shoot at the opponent's Riflemen when they're in a clear terrain tile for no cover bonus, if you're shooting from 4 tiles away that 4+ becomes an 8+ to hit...
