  • It's August 2021 and we are in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Arriva is the main operator here although Stagecoach runs a route or two, along with local operators Globe and Tetley's. There is also a couple of shots of coach operator Caledonian Travel. If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

There's usually something interesting that appears in your current scene videos.
In this one was the relatively vintage East Lancs decker with rubber mounted windows and a fat hub reduction axle.
White single decker at the end sounded pretty good.

I'm pleased you can still find things even in the up-to-date ones, they are still a snap-shot in time.......

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus can't believe you were taking home video footage in 1985. That was still the early 80s!

    Great video.
I was there in December to see Simon George's Heaton Lodge railway. Glad to see the buses between Wakefield and Leeds were no different on your visit. Got to the bus station, lots of people waiting for the Leeds bus, some waiting nearly an hour. I got lucky, turned up not long after I got there. The information display showed several cancelled buses. Not one, but two buses turn up, We board, then the two buses leave together for Leeds, playing leapfrog at the bus stops, all the way back to the city. What I have noticed, whether it's Chester, Southport, Wakefield, is that I've never seen one bus manager or inspector out and about. It's like the buses can do their own thing. In London, my experience of London United is that they have feet on the ground, and if buses are bunching up, they'll either hold one back, or terminate it early, transferring the passengers to the second bus, then turn the terminated bus back in an attempt to fill in the gaps. Certainly my experience around Kingston and Surbiton. I've never seen Arriva do that.

Thanks for your comments. In London of course there is the I -Bus system and garage controllers can see all that goes on from the comfort of the garage Output! Plus the TfL contracts pays for a certain amount of roadside inspectors. Beyond London it's a very different matter and things vary, not just between companies but area by area, the more busier and prosperous an operation the more it can support roadside staff. I too visited the model railway show on Sun 5th December, a fantastic layout as seen on my upload here czcams.com/video/7GtTpVOpCUQ/video.html

I have ridden on the Free Bus (which is run by Tetley's) and sadly there is no trolley service dishing out hot beveridges......
