    For those that "cringe" perhaps they should look inwardly and fix their personal issues... Learn what you can from everyone. Everybody has something useful to offer - you just have a lot more to offer than most. ;)

    I’m not trying to follow an engineer into knife making. I drink way too much for that. I’ve been making knives for a few years now though; I believe I’ve found my niche and where knife making is really enjoyable, and that’s in small knives. Like pretty freaking small 5 to 7” total, and not bulky on the hip and you don’t feel like a doofus carrying it out in public. I’m enjoying knife making again. The damascus I use to make, I’ll forge again soon, with an 8” billet instead of 18”. Little knives are my way to maintain sanity.

    Its looking to be a very good bowie so far and the laser results seem very good.
    As someone who used to work with lasers 'back in the day' you do need to be careful what you blast away with them. Metal's are generally fine and won't gas off too much nastiness but in any case you want to have quite a draw of fume removal, especially when you're doing anything organic underneath it and discourage the small people from playing or looking into it! Plastics can be a mixed mess, most of them are pretty stinky and offensive with some mildly poisonous or irritating gasses, when you start getting into stuff like PVC's though they can put off gasses that will outright kill people extremely quickly and the survivors will be maimed for life.
    Just being we're knife makers, everything we use is hot, sharp, full of particulates and probably poisonous, but I don't see a lot of reviews on lasers covering what professionals know they can do and while they are pretty cool things they're a whole other subject matter when it comes to material science. All the best for 2024

    I am quite happy to see that you are using heat treatment oven you've built. I am trying to build one almost exactly the same way you have built yours. I must say that trying to cut the brick with a router with a straight bit was... it was educational and my dogs are still laughing about it.
    But regardless of my learning experience, seeing that heat treatment oven in this video boosted my confidence to continue with this build. Thank you for that.

      lol, not an easy task for sure... makes a heck of a mess. Yep, so far so good with the oven! No issues to date.

    I really like the laser etch mark it looks so more crisp and clear almost like 480p being the old mark and the laser being 1080p and up, great idea and will be watching the product review when it comes out :)

    Well, for whatever reason, my first comment was deleated. Take a look at AmeriBrade 2x72 grinders. Question. Is the magnet on your surface grinder made from a maglock door security system?
    Thanks for what you do. 👍🍻

    • @RedBeardOps
      @RedBeardOps  Před 7 měsíci

      I've heard those are nice! The magnet came from NorthRidge as well... not sure what it was designed for, but it looks to be for a mill or surface grinder. Very nice piece.

    Build is looking great! Will you have plans for the height gauge/scribe available for purchase? That way we can print them down here and not pay an arm and a leg for shipping 🇦🇺

    • @RedBeardOps
      @RedBeardOps  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Right now I have the plans (print files) available for my patrons on Patreon or you can buy them on Etsy. Eventually they'll be in the open source library, but that will have a ~2 year lag.
      Patreon is the cheaper of the options - www.patreon.com/posts/3d-print-files-93074662?Link&

    hate to burst that bubble, but your "new invention" has been around for about 400 years. They are called "VERNIER HEIGHT GAUGE" and are really really a common place tools

      Never thought it was new ;) ; been seeing Nick wheeler and Karl Anderson use one for years. My specific design of a 3D printed jig to attach to a 3-2-1 block is what I'm considering novel.
