    The question Andy had about the head being on a hotplate I will explain here, I head the heads up to push the valve guides back so they dont stick out in the channel before I start working on it, when done it is the same story but then reversed, heat it up to put them back to there original position

      Those guides look awful tight, the valves should fall right onto the seat without you smacking them😄

      @@colbyhutzellfishingvideos4365 not sure what you referring to, I lap the valves is so to be sure they close perfect, the guides are checked on clearance and if necessary corrected either made slightly bigger or being replaced if worn out. These guides are the OEM guides that already did 24.000 km, so again what is your problem.. the guides have not been replaced and beside being pushed back slightly they are untouched..your a special kind of stupid or not internet hero ? Show me your tuning skills if you are so sure of your claims you make .. at least I can back up side of the story with loads of examples, performance increases and reliability security.. so enlighten me and show me your skills..

      @@colbyhutzellfishingvideos4365 I thought they were a little tight due to the valve guide seals being in place but no, he fitted seals later. Guides probably had a rolled edge from being moved? Personally I would have checked to make sure there were no burrs on them.and run a reamer through if needed (plus mic valve stems) the aggressive reply is quite 'telling' in my opinion.

      @@toinevandenbiggelaar6083 Before you ask, yes, I worked at a Ducati dealers (and Suzuki, Honda, BMW, Yamaha, Triumph Dealers plus just about anything that rolled through the door) I've also done a fair bit of porting over the years and built some reasonably quick road bikes. Also worked on Ian Lougher's IOM TT bike when our shop sponsored him (before he got factory rides)

    I have watched many videos on CZcams trying to understand head porting and always struggled to understand where the improvements are made thanks to this excellent video and narrator talking through the process I am much wiser than I was 35 mins ago. Thank you very much.

      this is a street port, the shape of the inlet and and exhaust stay relatively the same, , a little extra volume and smoothing of the tracts whilst maintaining the overall shape of the stock head, its important to keep the venturi effect of the tract , less is often more, a race port is far more severe , with much more widening of the tract and a more volumetric approach to maximise air volume and therefore top end on the engine.
      This is a really nice tame porting job for street use, keeping the intake air nice and fast without modifying the stock venturi shape of the head, you can really go to town with a port job and completely change the nature of a motor, even so far as welding or epoxying sections to build up sections to smooth the airflow or increase the venturi effect on the air for low down , low rev grunt.
      its a real art and a lot of fun to get into :)

      ​@@deadprivacy, exacto, + velocidad del flujo admisión, con capa límite turbulenta y aunque disminuya un poco la sección transversal, se gana en velocidad (como ver correr el agua en un arroyo), densidad y partículas de combustible en suspención oír lo que se "atomiza" y mejor homogeinizacion de la mezcla, no adhiriendose en exceso a las "paredes" del conducto (Port). Zonas de velocidad y zonas de amplitud previas al casquillo de válvula para reducir velocidad y transformar en aumento de la presión.. Saludos desde Buenos Aires Argentina !

    so pleasant to watch a pro do his stuff....Its mesmerizing to watch; reminds me of my grandpa working on his tractor; I'd watch for hours and be totally happy. I think this is why I have always loved to work on my own stuff.

    First time I messed with a cylinder head I was 17 and closely supervised by my Dad who knew a fair bit about engines.
    I opened up and removed the corners and casting residue from the inlet port, and left it relatively rough as Toine did here.
    Not sure if it was the fuel quality back then, or the previous rider doing lots of short journeys with the choke on, but lots of dense old carbon had accumulated in both the combustion chamber and exhaust port.
    So after opening up the outlet port, I did indeed polish the holybuggery out of it, as well as the combustion chamber.
    Then I skimmed the head using emery paper (nicked from work) and a few thick sheets of float glass. Took a while, but I had it back together again by Sunday lunch time.
    Yes of course it ran better. Removing the end baffle from the silencer, and fitting C70 or C90 jets all added up to making my 1972 Honda C50 Cub a Yamaha FS1E beater!
    This is where it all began.

    If he ever comes to OZ for a working holiday, tell him to bring his tool bag. I've got 4 heads for him to do. I followed him on the valve shimming only difference was, that took me 2 days to do aaah a master at work. Enjoyed the video.

    This is how I want my mechanic to service my bike, As fast as he can and throw caution to the wind. If there's going to be catastrophic failure in the engine due to negligence I want to find out about it somewhere out the on the road...

      have you ever wondered how its possible that a painter made it looks so easy to paint doors etc and when you try it it takes ages and its almost impossible to get the same finish as he does, or any other skilled professional that does make his work looks so easy while a not so trained person takes ages to do the same job and mostly with less results ? well there you go after hunderds of heads and engines its becomes a routine and you dont really have to think about the next step, its so very rare that a engine fails after I have tuned or rebuild it and even then most of the time its due to a failure of a part and not the work done .. Just saying, this particular example in the video the customer already did put a 8000Km on the bike with no problems beside the fact he had to adjust to the increase in power ..

    Hogging out the ports like in the video is going to increase flow but it's going to decrease port velocity, i cringed when i watched him enlarge the valve seat throat area, that head's going to make less power than stock now, all the high hp engines I've seen had epoxy filled intake ports to increase velocity.

    Remember to keep throatnon valvevseat about 88-90% the diameter of the valve on the intake. It'll help low lift flow

    This is probably fuel injected but on a carb bike, would a job like this mean having to reject the carb for the extra room, or would it stay the same and just habe better response because of gas and and exhaust inns amd outs, would that just be smoother transition but not needing more gas, thanks for your time
