Felix Mendelssohn - Symphony No.4 in A, "Italian" - 1st Movement

- The Symphony No. 4 in A major, Op. 90, commonly known as the Italian, is an orchestral symphony written by German composer Felix Mendelssohn (1809--1847).
The work has its origins, like the composer's Scottish Symphony and the orchestral overture The Hebrides (Fingal's Cave), in the tour of Europe which occupied Mendelssohn from 1829 to 1831. Its inspiration is the colour and atmosphere of Italy, where Mendelssohn made sketches but left the work incomplete.

hey this is the barbie & 12 princesses soundtrack!!! XD
Welcome to the classics :)
i even have liked the classical musics since i was 9 XD that was why i was so happy hearing that this music came from a romantic-era composer. how sweet!
It took a compilation of "popular songs without remembered names" to finally put a name with this piece! I loved that movie when I was younger!
This was also played in Fritz Lang's "Metropolis".
I was trying to find this symphony, but I had no idea what it was called. I resented the fact that I had to go to a Barbie Wikipedia page to get the answer I was looking for.
TwoSet have just informed me of the 12 princesses' theme's origin and I am SHOCKED
and also very happy
Yessss a fellow twosetter :)
Me too!!
Which video?
so many lingling wannabes :D
And this man only lived for 38 years. Live is too short.
Trust Me I am a Jedi we gotta press "F" to pay him respects
Yeah too short and Mozart only 35 unfortunately :(

I'm very glad the music helps with your work.

The duchess of doom~ More like the duchess of don't! Don't do this, don't do that, don't, don't, don't!
I'm an English Teacher at a school in Japan, they play this everyday during "Cleaning Time" - Seems to get the students moving!
I love listening to classical music while doing homework and I find that I just do the work instead of thinking about how much work I have to do! Wicked north you truly are the best!
I find listening to classical music while working on difficult subjects (math and science) makes me slow down and actually pay attention to what I'm doing. It helps cut down on stupid errors.
Wow I can’t every time I just want to get up and dance in my room 😅😂
try doing homework while listening to mussorgsky's night on bald mountain.
Is anyone else here because they simply enjoy this symphony?
Yep
Yup. It's such a life-affirming piece of work. My wife knows that it's what I'd like played at my funeral. (Not a immi
Oops - fat fingers.... (Funeral's not imminent - I'm only 70.)
Well that’s usually the purpose of clicking on a link. Id hate to think they are people out there clicking on videos they knowingly don’t enjoy, but do it as punishment. A nerd version of non sexual bdsm kind of mental torture???
I'm here because of Barbie and The 12 Dancing Princesses
I played this in orchestra. We messed up so bad and we were definitely not playing this fast
i finally found the name of this song after hearing it in a squarespace ad. i recognized it immediately and quickly found the ad in hopes that they would have the name of the song.
Same

not me
although i heard it after knowing it
ITS A PIECE
Every violin audition ever... (Also, great symphony!)
I heard this for this first time in a music history college class I took and as a result this is a song I constantly go back to listen to & I discovered I love classical music now!
Awesome! Check out the Planets Suite by Gustav Holst and Sibelius's 7th Symphony if you want some suggestions
Beautiful story 🖤
Dvorak's "New World Symphony" and Ralph Vaughan Williams' "The Lark Ascending" are another two great pieces.
My all time favourite piece of music. I cry each time I listen to it. It moves me so much
Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses anyone??
I’m only here because of barbie The 12 Dancing Princesses
The world has come to the point where this marvel of art can be relegated to no more than a side piece of franchised and unoriginal, consumerist flytrap of a film designed to selectively market the sale of cheap products to the dumb masses. I can't be arsed anymore.

thanks Barbie for introducing me to this lol
Thanks Barbie for teaching us to be cultured at such a young age.
I was here because of 12 dancing princesses and I'm back for vincenzo's theme.
The Compositions you choose are all magnificent in their uniqueness.
Sono italiano, e Felix ha rappresentato perfettamente l'Italia con quest'opera
E ci voleva uno straniero per farlo.
Tanta rabbia se mi fermo a pensarci.

Much beautiful counterpoint and the use of triple tounging in the woodwinds at the start (it is the background you here as the violins play the melody). Mendelssohn wrote some of his best stuff when he didn't try so hard to be a "great" composer. He allowed his unique gifts to come through naturally when he relaxed a little. This was written after a wonderful trip Mendelssohn made to Italy (and recall in those days before cars and planes with railroads only in their very incipient stages such a trip would be the equivalent today of an American making their first trip to Western Europe.
Thank you so much for this video! I was desperately trying to spot some of the music I heard through the show. Even 8 years later, you have my gratitude
This was my jam as a barbie fan
Meravigliosa sinfonia di Felix Mendelsshon ♦ Grazie caro TheWickedNorth , per la condivisione ★ Complimenti!!

Why do these people have to die,so so beautiful.
This Symphony played a big role in the movie Breaking Away, which was about the local kids of Bloomington IN and the students from U of Indiana.
Great movie.
Science-is-Truth Great movie!
Whoever disliked this has no taste lol 😝
Magnificent piece of music from a genius
I'm here again because this keeps playing in the kdrama "vincenzo" and it's so nostalgic cause I watched barbie as a kid. I need the Vincenzo version if this piece now.
Dreamy!
Alway this beginning has been one of my prefered Symphony.

Ah, no wonder it sounds familiar to me. A variation of this was used in Rocket Knight Adventures. Rad.
I heard this song originally from Tom & Jerry shorts

Where’s the rest of this piece?
Breaking Away. Yes, I’m that old!
An epic tune and interestingly enough for all you trivia and QI lovers out there, Mendelssohn was uncircumcised.

Thank God! I was so worried...
And he still wasn’t allowed to escape his heritage no matter how much his parents tried. Wagner hated him for being too “Jewish”. Anti-semitism continues through today.
