      @@lansa002my view on it is that tojis only wish in life was fulfilled, he wanted his son to be a kind and good sorcerer like gojo rather than the zenin because gojo was the only sorcerer to recognize him so in a way it symbolizes him the sorcerer killer overcoming his berserker state and hatred for sorcerer's because of he can accept Megumi and love him

      Megumi became what toji wanted( being a sorcerer which means having a place in the world) and escaped everything what toji hated ( the crazy ideals of zenin and his hatred towards sorcerer having a place while he couldn't)..@@lansa002
      Toji hated sorcerers because he couldn't become one. He didn't have a place like them. He didn't love being an outcast.
      And I am glad they went with narrative consistency of his character and he just offed himself. Didn't create a ruckus about being father and all that because he wasn't there for him in the first place. But he was certainly glad and probably happy for the first time in his life.
      Edit:- also it also makes sense toji would go for the strongest because the granny just can set conditions through seance and not control everything..and since everybody is stronger than granny and his kids it would make sense that the condition would be that he would go for the strongest if they weren't able to control the beast. And he going for dagon instantly because de uses so strong cursed energy that toji had to go there instinctively.

    Toji had to be in Shibuya, he further develops the super important theme of the soul and the body, and starts of the development of Makis character and what she becomes in the culling games. Plus Shibuya develops Tojis character more, like his feelings about Megumi and his theme of being a literal haunting ghost to the Zenin (Which is also shown through Maki)

    • @lansa002
      @lansa002  Před 5 měsíci +13

      I agree with your first point.
      The second point I'm a bit shakier on, I think Shibuya's main purpose was just to cause chaos, I didn't really get any vibes about him haunting the Zenin because of the fact that he went straight to kill Dagon, beat up Megumi and killed that old woman. If Toji had set his eyes on Naobito then maybe, but I didn't really see it. Fair point tho, I think thematically he is just a ghost (just not particularly aiming at the Zenin)

      @@rottingbubbles dagon was in the domain... And since gojo is sealed and not many sorcerers are around and jogo choso and mahito are free after the gojo sealing.. so the most natural progression is mahito and choso are finding yuji while jogo would look for dagon after hanamis death.. so the moment toji breaks the domain expansion after killing dagon,, toji goes after Megumi then jogo comes there cos he could feel dagon was dying or domain expansion was destroyed..so jogo comes against the other three... Again you know whats coming. Jogo incinerates them three. Now the natural progression. Zenin head dies, nanami barely survives because of the cursed energy increase in overtime, and maki survives because of heavenly restriction.. since jogo speed blitzed the other two he just lit them up to the point he thought they were dead and went all out on the last one that is zenin. Now he would complete the job but king of curses comes up.
      Jogo cares more about his fellow curses more than anything. This is consistent with his conversations. He is the most human of them all. Even when he died he's happy that he finally met with hanami and dagon.. they are his family.
      also it also makes sense toji would go for the strongest because the granny just can set conditions through seance and not control everything..and since everybody is stronger than granny and his kids it would make sense that the condition would be that he would go for the strongest if they weren't able to control the beast. I personally LOVED the Mahoraga fight. I thought it looked gorgeous regardless of it not being finished. Granted, I liked the Jogo fight better, but I thought it was really cool how messy and brutal the fight felt. I didn't have much trouble telling what was going on, and I loved how fast paced it felt. And oh my gosh, when Sukana starts taking a bow during all the destruction like it's a stage performance sent CHILLS down my spine. And, much like you said, Sukuna's domain expansion is stunning. I also really liked the aftermath with Yuji coming back to witness what Sukuna has done.

    If you disregard in this instance the plot of Hidden Inventory, the first five episodes of S2 can be viewed as an introduction to the character, Toji. Otherwise narratively they wouldn’t be able to revive his character in Shibuya without that context. The rooftop curse users summoned Toji because of their own familiarity. He was a part of the underground society of curse-users, the infamous invisible man/sorcerer killer.
    Entirely out of proudness against the sorcerer world, Toji wanted to take down the awakened six-eyes the pinacle of sorcery at that time. Megumi having the Fushiguro name is a fufillment of Toji’s pride against the sorcerer world, especially against his family.
    He is no father-figure and understands having no entitlement. Still with pride and gratitude, the only thing he can do for his son in that moment is stopping himself from killing him.
    Also without spoiling, Toji’s resurrection was foreshadowing in a couple different ways for the events to come.

    toji's role in shibuya isnt to serve Megumi's character, but his own. Toji died not knowing what actually happened to Megumi, and while you could argue that he didnt really care, I like to think at some level he did. He sold Megumi to the Zen'in because he knew if Megumi had talent he would be safer there, even though that ended up not happening. But Toji getting that closure knowing that Megumi grew strong in spite of the Zen'in while keeping the Fushiguro name is what makes him smile and then kill himself, because he didnt want to kill his son.

    Toji is written as a really powerful character with a ton of agency to the story. He is so powerful that he doesn't need to wait for the story to progress to act, he causes things to progress simply by being himself. He is a force of nature in the story, something that causes change. I believe this is why it feels he has no role in shibuya or doesn't really "exist" as a character. He gets a ton of characterization in hidden inventory/premature death, enough to the point where I think he doesn't need more in shibuya. Toji's story is finished by the time he is revived, we already saw his conclusion when he was defeated by Gojo: he came to terms with his life and realized he wasted it by fighting a losing battle with no real point. There isn't much to work with in shibuya except for the fact that megumi is there. Toji sees that he didn't actually waste his life because he created a son that wouldn't suffer the same fate as him, which reminds him that he doesn't need to fight anymore and leads to his second death.

    There is a common thing between the scene of fake Geto choking himself and Toji recovering his own body: the duality of body and soul. The controversy around the prevalence of one over the other is one of the main themes of the series, in my opinion, and it gives meaning to Toji's revival. Sukuna mentions the soul and the nature of the cursed energy a lot, so I know that it will come out in the long run. Maybe the true understanding of the soul and its inherent relation to the body is what allows Sukuna to manipulate his form and perform the way he does at sourcery.

    • @agustinmiranda4752
      @agustinmiranda4752 Před 5 měsíci

      Thinking about it, the toji's revival scene is also important for two reasons: to consolidate the importance and significance of megumi's roots and to introduce the possibility of retaking ones body from the reminiscence of the soul, which may be a important topic further, when (spoiler) sukuna takes megumi's body and subsumed his soul. In any case, it's nice to pre establish that possibility because it would also legitimate the incapacity to nail it in megumi's case due to the amount of suffering he passed through.

      Yeah, i think it's just the way things are now given tiktok brain, we see it all the time where a series (jjk included) has a first season and gets compared to the love people had for shows they watched 200-1000 eps of (naruto, one piece, etc). The shows back in the day had way more time to get to know characters in a chill out mode and now people complain if the series "doesnt live up to the hype" or it gets cancelled if not every chapter is a banger. Hence we get constant fights. Think about this, in one piece or bleach in 50 eps we didnt have this hype action or fights or big deaths...yet people claim jjk is not enough and needs to go harder. Some say its underwhelming and so on. people's expectations are so hard to please and the need for bigger and better faster is causing stories to feel fast paced and lifeless. JJK is still good and you can tell gege has to use the shortcuts of us filling in the down time and that characters are cool with each other like that part where one character removes lint from another or they go to the movies together etc. Chainsman part two just slowed down and people ragg on it. Before people ragged that its too fast and they feel nothing, now its too slow and they dont care for introspective stuff and want it all to get on with it. Its very hard to make a story now as the pot of criticism is so abundant we used to just read and move on now if something is not perfect 100 videos ragg on it and make people who liked it think its trash etc. COnclusion, i just think we all caused this issue you said and i agree with you but i get why gege did it this way. He was supposely gonna get canceled and sped things up...within a few chapters and look at him now. PS: people say jjk or demon slayer are just liked for animation and they have no story or its basic etc, but if true we'd make all shonen with animes and just add flashy animation. plenty of stories arent doing well even with animes because the story doesnt resonate. Fast pacing and cool animation cant hid an uninteresting cast, setting, theme, plot, action, power system, etc.

    Im commenting off of no.10 alone, as I still have to watch the rest… however I wanted to explain my perspective of why I think Toji being brought back through the seance tech was actually excellent writing and plot setup.
    Firstly, granny used seance and it back firing was excellent. It gives the first true insight into how powerful Heavenly Restriction is. Then, when he arrives to fight Dagon, aside from the amazing fight sequence, this is the first time Maki gets the opportunity to see the full potential of Heavenly Restrixtion, even though she didn’t know. Then after Dagon, he fights megumi… which Gege uses to highlight that Megumi is stronger than the rest of the other sorcerers (he instinctively bared his fangs at the strongest around). So nice quality setup for megumi. Finally, after seeing megumi fight stragetically and staring dead into his eyes, he recalls that look and remembers his kid. It’s like amazing amazing writing imo. From setups to maki, pure peak toji (in hidden inventory he wasn’t peak), and then part 1 closure with megumi.

    Tojis revival felt a bit more meaningful for me. He said to Gojo that Megumi would get sold off to the zenin clan and to do with that what he will. Imo I think it was done really well with Toji being broughy back by the old ladys technique, only for his soul to win (skill issue) go on a bit of a rampage, and then realize last second that he was fighting his own son and couldn't control it. So it kinda makes sense he game ended himself but oh well thats just my opinion \_(:/)_/

    I am usually strongly agains characters being revived, but I loved the toji part for two reasons:
    1.- Watching him again is straight up amazing. The beating he gave to dagon and the entire persuit of Megumi are really enjoyable.
    2-' Adds to the theme of one chosing his own destiniy. JJK and specially the Sibuya Arc have a lot of commentary on "what meaning does death have?". Seeing how Toji sees his wish fulfilled after death give us the viewer hope that maybe sometime the desires of all who were left behind will come, eventually even if they are not there to see it.

It was very impressive to me that they managed to successfully capture the chaos of such a fight while still making it possible to clearly follow. Now I will say there were a few scenes that DEFINITELY could’ve been done better to clear up what just happened. But I personally only found like a handful. JJK is meant as a full piece and not to be broken down by arcs. You will see in future chapters Toji is just a part of the consistent explanation of the corruption of Jujutsu society with the Zenin clan being at the center of that, serving as inspiration for both Megumi AND Maki’s best moments. The way he was reintroduced further illustrates aspects of one of those central questions: which comes first, the soul or the body. To say there’s no payoff would be to overlook his backstory moments entirely.

    (I yap abt something not that deep don’t mind me)
    Mahito has a bag so deep his growth is incredibly obvious, and lends itself to group fights but Yujis actually grown a good bit more than Mahito has, at least as of chapters 212-216 ish.
    The events of those chapters along with the book he gets from Yuki and it’s contents(manga readers know, anime onlys don’t need to no spoilers plz) make me believe that after that point if Mahito spawned in again full power he’d get absolutely violated. (It is debatable but the reason why is spoilers)
    Regardless of who’d win that hypothetical, Yujis growth is higher than Mahitos is simply bc he lived longer than Him, and was on his tail their entire fight outside key moments. while Yuji would’ve died without todo in that moment, throughout their fight he was showing that he was able to keep up in a 1v1. It got progressively harder as the fight went on but not because Mahito was growing faster than him but because yuji already had a mental nerf from Sukunas actions and Mahito exploited it and used it to cripple him. Once he had his head in the game he was able to keep up and even show relativity to ascended Mahito. Neither were at full power and if Yuji didn’t land the black flash right after his domain, the fact he did lends itself to the idea he was able to go blow for blow. He out battle IQ’d him in their final clash, that divergent fist countered what Mahito was doing to counter Yujis full power final black flash by throwing off his timing and offsetting his balance. He even went “I win” in his head before so we know he didn’t have a counter to that in mind. Todo hitting cleanest fake out just gave Yuji the chance to steal him from the side cleanly so the attack would hit harder.
    After that Mahitos bag was finally empty and Yuji could still box box, even running up on Geto after and tanking a bunch of curses jumping him, and was frozen.
    Mahito could have kept up or lapped Yuji in the culling games if he was in them but he wasn’t unfortunately(good fuck that greasy mf)

If he somehow survived Yuji and Kenjaku hadn’t absorbed him, he could’ve become something far more powerful and dangerous, he could’ve basically also turned the whole world with his idle transfiguration, the fact that he doesn’t is just because at thar point he didn’t know he could or how to or still lacked power to do it, but Kenjaku had 1000+ years of knowledge and manipulation to do it 🤷🏻‍♀️.

    Some opinions:
    First of all, introducing Toji to Shibuya was perfect. His impact on Shibuya as a whole was perfect, and so was Toji's story as a whole and the way he died. It fit Toji's character, he wouldn't keep living, it wouldn't be like him. Second, the fight with Dagon was perfect for Megumi's character development. When Megumi doesn't attempt to summon Mahoraga after the tiniest inconvience shows how much he's grown since the third episode. I also love how he did eventually summon Mahoraga for such a low level enemy. Him doing that was a way of acknowledging defeat, as well as giving a final "screw you" to the person who was gonna take him out. I don't have much to say about Choso and Yuji besides how close it was, in terms of range and who won. Jogo vs Sukuna was absolutely insane, not only does it show, the absolute insane power difference, it shows how Sukuna will act fair in a fight, shown by him not revealing his secret in his final duel with Jogo. It shows how someone as evil and narsistic as Sukuna will fight fair in order to cure boredom.
    Honestly, Geto choking Kenjaku was amazing, not just because of the emotions, but because of Kenjaku's reaction to it, being shocked, amazed, and suprised. I don't like the Mechamaru vs Mahito fight, due to Mechamaru's motivation to betraying Jujutsu High. His motivations were kinda lame, they had no risk behind this and it makes it less entertaining. If Kenjaku and Mahito kidnapped Miwa and potentially offed her in front of Mechamaru, it'd lead to Mechamaru losing his crap, possibly beating Mahito so bad and quickly that he can't use idle transfiguration, leading to Kenjaku intervening. Anyway, peace.

      Meant to reply to this earlier, it's the big kahuna;
      1. Toji's impact on Shibuya is minimal, at least in terms of the payoffs. It's not like Toji had a masterplan of coming back to life, it was just a coincidence that the hunters used his DNA in particular. I do believe that his inclusion was a nice example of Gege's chaos in writing actualized but that's the most I really rake it up too.
      2. The Dagon battle with Megumi over the domain was just more of a way to allow his friends to escape, at least that's the way I chalked it up to be. Although I do admit, even when I read the manga that Megumi using it as the metaphorical "middle finger" against Shigemo was really great.
      3. I mean Mechamaru's anger and disdain is shown in the first season when he's just mad at his situation when being stuck in the bathtub, which I just felt sorry for him. Like the only other way to be healed is by working with the villains, which I found to be a pretty reasonable agreement. The whole risk of the Mechamaru and Mahito fight was whether Mechamaru could reasonably beat Mahito, which did offer a pretty strong degree of tension because he was already fighting at the edge, he was fighting to see Miwa again.
      Thanks for commenting! I really appreciate your input

    • @TTV_Breezer
      @TTV_Breezer Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@lansa002I 100% agree with you on the first point and thats why it was perfect. Toji just ran with it, instead of asking questions which fits his character as a whole. Toji's character revolves around being quick and effecient without needless fights and or interactions, which made it perfect when he realised Megumi kept his name. Although, I do disagree with you regarding Mechamaru. I personally feel as Mechamaru's pain was chalked up his despair regarding the situation, not himself entirely. During the fight with Mahito, he really didn't have any drive which is why Mahito killing or injuring Miwa would be perfect. I'm just imagining a Mahito who's holding back for fun just get slammed and comboed by Mechamaru whos in a fit of rage.

If he didn't want Toji to be here he would have just written Dagon to be weaker and even if he didn't I honestly think that with Megumi showing up to turn the tide the group could have actually won and Toji kinda made things worse by stealing and then breaking Maki's weapon and beating up Megumi. Also he could have had the animation guy pull out some crazy trick since he's also not established and thus free to do anything. In terms of why he wanted Toji there I think it's both great setup for Maki and Megumi so I actually really love it.

None of the good guys coulda survived that fight, so Sukuna had to randomly kill him for no real reason to keep him out of the fight. Same with Toji and Dagon. I couldn’t disagree more about the Mahoraga fight though, the fight was supposed to be chaos and I feel like the animation reflected that. The wide shots from across Japan right before Sukuna kill Mahoraga are EXCELLENT!!! I think this is the second greatest season of an anime ever just behind HxH Chimera Ant arc.

    I think you and the people in the comments are missing something about Toji's revival.
    I understand why you might feel like it was a desperate, convenient choice to defeat a seemingly unbeatable villain, but there's something established in the Hidden Inventory arc that people tend to forget.
    Toji is referred to as "The man that broke the chains of fate", so when the old woman makes the very sensible choice to give her grandson the strongest body probably in history, she wasn't aware of the implications of a person having a heavenly restriction. The man that broke the chains of fate was brought back and he again broke said chains of fate.
    The fight against Dagon would've probably ended with an extremely difficult victory with the help of Megumi and his infinite bag of tricks, but at the end of the day, Megumi and Toji's fight indirectly caused sukuna to destroy Shibuya to destroy Mahoraga.
    That being said, even if with that context you still find it weird I understand.

    The take on Toji and Dagon is weird to me. He could’ve easily wrote anyone else to win that wasn’t his only purpose. Clearly they all got wiped out right after anyway by Jogo

    It's just sad that Totos black flash made 0 sense as it was previously established that, after boogey woogie, the objects retain their original velocity. The velocity doesn't get swapped so after he sweated with the thrown rock, he should've been standing still.
    Kinda ruins this moment for me...

    The way I see there is three ways to get stronger and they show it.. you have to be on Gojo ,sukuna and toji level just to defeat them.. if not you going to die.

    I’m stopping the video after the Toji in shibuya criticism. Not that I don’t think you’re not allowed to dislike it, I just think saying “there was no payoff” when he literally had the chance to see his own son be his own man which is more than he ever deserved and that being beyond cathartic is wrong as hell and it makes me really not want to listen to anything else you have to say.
