    Honestly it is hard to invest in a DC collectables line bc Everytime they have a good thing going they cancel it. People who collected their new 52 line got screwed over by icons. People who invested in icons were promised that icons would be the new standard but we're quickly replaced by another line in the old scale screwing over icons collectors.
    They can't seem to commit to a line, style, or scale leaving us all weary in investing in their THIRD "essential go to" figure line in 6 years...

    It's sad that the Icons were canceled. Their last releases, Nighwing, Batgirl, Supergirl and Super Sons were amazing! I like how they make sure you get more out of the twenty-five dollar price point. Packed with a lot of accessories, better proportions, decent articulation and scale perfectly with Marvel Legends - DC Icons is what I prefer.

    As a long time toy collector, it's all about scale when it comes to action figures for me. That's why Icons failed miserably. The Icons did not fit in ANY scale so what's the point? I think the Essentials line is exactly where they need to go. Excellent articulation, beautiful classic looking sculpts. Yes it would be nice to get some accessories like extra hands and head sculpts, but I would take a perfectly scaled Flash with 21 points of articulation and a classic head sculpt over a miniature Flash with a treadmill any day.

    • @Rock_Draw
      @Rock_Draw Před 5 lety +2

      The points of articulation are good, but the articulation works bad, when you start to pose it the joint becomes loose because the plastic has very poor quality. When they announced Icons, i was angry, because
      I was collecting n52, and they canceled it by a line on another scale. Then i buy my first Icon, and i was in love with it. I think Icons it's the best line of dcc, so far. If they had kept the line and it had been made extensive enough, it was not really necessary to fit with other scale.

    First I wanna say great video as usual. Now onto my beef. I don't understand how anyone is disappointed that DC Collectibles decided to go in another direction. Everyone wants to act like they loved the Icons lines. But the truth is no one ordered them. Remember you get DC Collectibles figures through comics and specialty shops. And again, no one was ordering them. I think people's started to turn around on Icons at the end. As far as the scale the complaint was always that they were too small and that didn't scale with your older DC Collectibles figures. That's why I think they went back to a larger scale. I don't think they have a responsibility to scale their stuff with other companies. So I don't think that ever went into any of their conceptualizing.
    I loved the Icons line. I have every figure released in the short run. And I really wish they would have kept it going. But on the other hand if people weren't investing in the line I understand why they couldn't.

    • @sportyeight7769

      Sadly, I don't like the quality of the dc line to buy them. But if at least i could blend them with some other lines to create nice dioramas I could pick some of them, but they aren't in scale. Not even close. So i go with mezco, mafex, sh figuarts or revoltech

    • @knockternal1
      @knockternal1 Před 6 lety +4

      It was hard to order Icons when they were constantly being canceled though. They kept announcing singles and two packs and then canceling them. I had Static Shock on pre order for example and they canceled it then brought it back I think. It came out like 9 months after it was supposed to. When it finally came out he didn't have the extra hands or his trench coat. Also them changing the scale made me not want to continue. They just really didn't know how to handle the Icons.

    • @romesrepublic
      @romesrepublic Před 6 lety +2

      DCC dropped the ball hard on the Icons line, rather than stick to the original artist and sculptor they kept switching, which made the line look inconsistent. Also, they knew their fans wanted larger figures to match marvel legends, and in the end they ended up going in that direction anyway, so why not just come out the gate with 6.5in figures? They should have just stuck with the icons, limited the production size and improved the figures with each new wave. Now they just decided to make slightly more detailed DCUC figures. $30 for an oversized figure with a reused body and zero accessories? Watch this line fail even harder than the Icons.

    Love to go bk and rewatch these comparisons videos older and hopefully newer ones soon. It’s great to have video proof of stuff of past and how things were etc..What brothers me so much as every year goes by is seeing stuff they were able to do 2,4,10, 20 years ago with some action figures and a lot of accessories with it and that was done at a lot cheaper price regardless how people say inflation over the years. Well most people pay hasn’t gone up with cost of stuff. Yet we got sometimes so much better painted, sculpted etc figures with a lot more accessories at half sometimes triple the cost cheaper then we do today even with how they say things raise in price. Now the companies have us hooked so we tolerate a figure in a box with ok to fine paint work not great at all on a figures body that has minimum sculpt done they can do and still pass it off and then just sell that 1 figure with not 1 accessories or even a change of hands. Yet the price has gone from $10 few years bk with a figure ten times better then todays to now $30 to $100 in some companies cases with the less we get. And let’s not even talk about the scalpers. Used to be able to buy things dirt cheap if was not gotten at a store and was second hand. Not any more. People expect more $ for stuff with less material, effort and cost into it. And we just keep letting it happen.

    When is come to superheroes the majority of the collector community is in to 6" figures. They are not going to mix large 7" figures with the 6" unless is a large character like Hulk, juggernaut etc. They are not going to star over collecting everything in 7" specially since the 6 inch is the most dominant scale period with more superheroes made than any other scale. The only people this figures will appeal is the fan that likes large figures and don't mind mixing 4" figures with 7".

    I think just based on putting these figures side by side hands down the essentials looks miles better. The icons had good accessories but I always thought their face sculpts were very weak and almost doll like where as the essentials face sculpts look right out of a comic book. Also the articulation on the icons is very weak too. Icons did not measure up to the standard that most action figures have these days. I think the essentials is a step in the right direction. Also all the figures don’t have the same body. You can tell the new aquaman and brainiac have different body molds and I think it is too early in the line to say all the figures will have the same body mold.

    • @charlesblack1491
      @charlesblack1491 Před 6 lety

      While I agree with you that the Aquaman has a newly sculpted upper torso and leg fins on his calves, Braniac only has a new head sculpt. Maybe the paint makes it appear his body is different but it's not. Now Joker and Rorschach are a different story.

The 4HM line gave us completed teams of just about every DC team you could think of, none of the other DC lines after that have come close to doing that. I'll just stick to the ML line, your loss DC.

    IMHO the only line that has been faithful to the source is D.C. Direct. Icons would have killed it if they have gotten right the scale. Essentials are good but not great, no accessories and very weak articulation. Oh! And the blew the scale too.

    The great things Icons did was bloody accessories. Extra hands, heads, just stuff, whatever. I could put up with the scale difference if I got all that goodness. Essentials is crap because of that. I'm still buying it, don't get me wrong. I just hate myself for it.

    mattels makes better toys than hasbro but mattels keeps on making their dc toy line different scales, and marvel legends wins by making their scales on only 6 inches and non changes

    DC needs to have competition for marvel legends. DC icons could have been it, but it looks like they didn't give it a chance.

    Really let down by the Essentials line. I wouldn’t mind the scale if they were really great figures, but sadly they don’t look all that great. Look at this Flash. He got monkey long arms, and considering it’s a buck they’ll reuse for all, these ugly proportions will be carried over to nearly all their figures. I like the head sculpt of the Essentials and the poseability but those aren’t enough for me to get past it’s big problems

    :42....i was never ok w/the icons line. Scale is a big thing for me. Gets frustrating switching from 3 3/4 " to 5 inch to 6" then 8", etc. Plus the articulation on the icons wasnt what it needed to be either. I got most of them only cause i love sh figs. But glad theyre gone! Im glad they replaced that line with this essentials line because they fit with the dc universe line pretty close....jusss sayin'🤔

    DC Essentials is frankly just an elaborate scam. The only figure in that line that has any different sculpt work is Aquaman. It's like buying the same figure over and over again. The Flash shouldn't have the exact same body type as Batman, for example. So if there is clearly not going to be effort put into sculpting or making each figure unique, then the paint should be top notch. Only it isn't. They have poor quality control and paint slop. My Batman had a scratch right across his Bat emblem and his belt design has kind of cluttered paint. These figures have crooked lines at times and the paint just sucks. Essentials should be discontinued.
