- I haven't been to a Steakhouse on the channel for a while and I must admit that steak is one of my favourite things to eat. So today, after much thorough research - I visited Flat Iron in Waterloo which is known as one of London's cheapest steakhouse, if not, the cheapest. So, I'm looking forward to giving it a go and seeing what it tastes like!

A food review channel with no snobbery and honestly considered opinions... the algorithm has put some really random stuff in my feed over the years but once in a while it drops something like this on my screen. Now I've got a whole back catalogue to watch.

Flat Iron seriously has a soft spot in my heart. Regardless of the value, where else can you get a full restaurant meal and a drink for under £20in London? Only upsetting bit is remembering how great it was when it was £11 with a free sauce and side salad pre-Covid!

I went to a Flat Iron a few weeks back it was such good value. Steak was £15 the beef dripping fries and drink were another £10. That and I got a salted caramel ice cream for free only slight issue I had was I asked for a medium rare steak and it was a bit on rare side. Even then the steak was so tasty that I didn't care.

As a Londoner, it's great to hear of places that don't require you to take out a loan to dine here these days. That meal looked good value. We got you having a bit of dessert at last, even though it was an ice cream in freezing temps, LOL. Think you may have to swap your gilet jacket for a winter coat now. Well done on getting to 8k subs. 🎉

Ah, yes, a proper dessert which you can review would be better. I do feel a bit sorry for the cameraman after you half-inched his cleaver token, leaving him ice cream-less. Watch out for any revenge he may wreak on you in the coming days. 🫢

Believe me Gary, you won't get a steak dinner like that in the South of Ireland at that bargain price. The steak may not have been the biggest but I'll take quality over quantity most times. I'm sure the two guys over your shoulder using their phones were in the process of subscribing to Gary Eats. Great to see the channel growing, well deserved.

I stumbled across Flat Iron when they did a pop-up in a dining room above a pub in Shoreditch - probably 10-11 years ago. I've eaten there several more times over the years since then and it's great to see that they've stuck to their original model and haven't compromised. If it ain't broke - don't fix it!

I have been to the same restaurant, mate, and I was really surprised of the quality and service. The cut of meat is an underrated cut of meat in many restaurants, but it's really tasty. The only negative, subjectively, is that they don't have a proper Bernaise sauce. I gave it a 9 out of 10 and I will go back anytime. Great looking plate of food the steak was cooked perfect for me, costwise yes it's expensive but being in central London they boost the price as they know foregin tourists will pay it plus the rent and overheads are just ludicrous

That was a top quality steak Gary. It looked really tender and I particularly liked the presentation and having the steak sliced in the manner you displayed. For London prices, that was excellent value. That I enjoyed and many thanks for sharing with us 👍👍👍

Gary.....21 bills for that steak including fries,sauce and tip in London was a bargain.It looked great and you really seemed to enjoy it.Places like this work really hard to keep it affordable for the masses to enjoy some good food.81/2 was a bit harsh in my opinion....a 10 all day every day.Living in Sarasota Florida i wish i could get that for 25 bucks.I pay 16 bucks for 10 chicken wings and nothing else.Great review as usual except for the score....keep up the good work.👍

Great review Gary !! Really impressed. My wife and daughter visited Flat line in London over a year ago, and enjoyed it. Must admit your steak looked lovely, but I would say visually a medium rare. But like you, I usually have a steak medium rare. I did love the utensils, the knife in particular! I also loved the way the steak was cut in to pieces too. Yep, great review Gary I said eight and a half ( got it right twice in a row now !!! ).. Carry on with your great reviews mate, 8.2 thousand subscribers ...over the moon for you. Another very good review. Correct me if I am wrong, but every time you eat at a premises in or near a London railway station you give them a deserved good score! I have never seen a steak presented sliced but it looked very good. Your review makes me wish I could hop on a trsin and get that steak - no plastic cutlery, eh! Well done Gary. Best wishes Philip.

Great review Gary. Tremendous value there i think. I went to the Flatiron in Covent Garden recently and put the boat out for a £20 sirloin. It was excellent - that restaurant had more of a classic steakhouse vibe that the one you visited. Illustrates how much the other chains are making at £45 for a sirloin of similar size. If you return the mac n cheese is basically perfect. The red wine is great value as well.

The one by St Christophers Place used to by one of my local spots for a quick bite. It used to be just £10, no reservations needed , just join the queue. Now its £15 & you need to book

Fantastic review of a great restaurant. The Flatiron at Kings Cross (Caledonia Road) is the one we visited and we loved it -very atmospheric and nice touches with the popcorn and ice-cream (you used the tokens to select your favourite side dish in exchange for an ice-cream!!). Thanks Gary.

Hi Gary, thank you for another lovely review. Those fries/chips did look borderline between fries and chips. I do not like those really skinny fries some places do where there is literally no potato inside, it is just a empty crispy shell, but the ones in this video did look nice. I love peppercorn sauce and could literally drink the stuff, but I mainly put on chicken as I am not a great lover of steak.
That little cleaver they gave you to redeem an ice-cream was a lovely idea and it looks like they did not skimp on the size of it either - amazing. Your score of 8/10 purely for the food seems perfectly fair, but with the little addition of the free ice-cream i.e. service as well as food, I would not be surprised by a 9/10 either.
I think the marketing with Flat Iron is superb. Complimentary water, the popcorn and the free ice cream in addition to the already good value meal is superb.

Well done again on finding what looks to be a great restaurant. Another to go on my list. Must admit would prefer chips to fries but they looked better than the average fry. That mash sounds interesting as well. Steak looked perfect for me - all I need do is choose a location 👍

Nice one, Gary! I agree with you: Flat Iron is a very decent deal. It’s good that they have opened more as in the past you couldn’t book and big queues would form. The free ice cream is a nice touch isn’t it…even on a cold day! Keep up your excellent reviews…really enjoy them a lot.

Ooooooh, I hadn't heard of these before this, thank you. The old tiled decor of this one reflects an old Pie and Mash shop which is really lovely. The food looks decent and for central London that's a good price.

Hello Gary as a new subscriber I'm enjoying the videos u putting out . I can say that your brilliant at reviews.. Right onto this flat iron steak house very good value 100 percent especially for London prices . I'm. From Yorkshire and we do good streaks but what I'm. Trying to say is the prices are getting more money than London prices now. Price hiking is blatantly going on... So I give that steak and chips with the peppercorn sauce a high ten . Because of pricing comparison with good Yorkshire steak houses. . . Your soo straight forward in these reviews that a ordinary person really is understanding the reviews .

I love Flat Iron - had medium rare every time, and never had an issue with toughness or sinew. I think the trick is they are handling and cutting the meat carefully, so they get the best out of it

My son, at 17 is a steak fan, cooks his own, blue to rare, he would have demolished that ... great review as always. I'm a fan of good peppercorn sauce 😊😊😊

We went to the Denmark Street branch when it first opened about eight years ago. You couldn't book at the time, so by the time we left there was a long queue outside. A very limited menu meant that they got you in and out pretty quickly, getting best utilisation out of the table they had. Food was very good. They didn't do desserts or coffee, but directed us to the pub down the road where we finished off our meal before going to the theatre. On our next trip to London we ate at the Chelsea Steak House as we had been given vouchers for a meal there. It was not a patch on the Flat Iron.
Flat Iron is excellent value and well worth a visit!

Another great video and that restaurant is just around the corner of where I stay in London so might have to try it out..steak looked so good as did the fries.i think id have preferred more on the plate tho for that price,ie onion rings,tomato etc.

Love this chain when I am in London I find they tend to err on the side of undercooking to what you ask (which is fine with me ) and was also your experience but again like you say they cook it well which is the main thing

Not heard of these guys, but the place, food, all looked really good. I partic liked the mini meat cleaver :) I'd deffo give them a go if found myself by one. One reservation, there was a shot were the board/plate looked covered in blood, usually a sign they've not rested the steak properly... It wouldn't put me off, but i've friends who'd be freaked out by that. Price-wise, for London that did seem very reasonable. Nice vid.

Cracking stuff.. I would totally agree with you on the size of steak and the way it was cooked. If they did away with the popcorn and free ice cream and put that cost/saving into a larger steak then they would win my vote hands down...cheers

Thanks as always for a great review! One thing tho'. Could you also tell us what the chips are fried in - beef/duck dripping, sunflower oil, etc. Makes a world of difference to both taste & consistency.

That steak looked so juicy, definitely not medium, as you said. I’ve never had a flat iron steak, but looked good. I thought the decor looked a bit like that of an old pie and mash shop, but nothing wrong with that, nice clean lines. I liked the idea of the complimentary citrus water and popcorn. As always, great review
Can highly recommend going to Flat Iron and trying their steak. They're obviously the professionals and no doubt know how to cook a nice Flat Iron steak. Apparently, it used to be an old pie and mash shop so that might be why. I do agree with you though!

Afternoon Gary use to go down the cut on a Friday lunchtime when I was working in London. Steak looked good but too rare for me but know you like it like that, For where you are feel the price was good. Looked like you enjoyed the meal. Nice touch with the free ice cream!
