  • In this video you'll learn how to use Solar Power or even just an external battery for charging your phone can help improve your MPG's.
    A USB external battery charger can also be used in this gas saving process. these are also known as portable power supplies or personal power supplies.
    By combing the 2 you're making yourself a solar power bank, and you're going to have to watch to see how it works.

    We can always use any extra source of power to increase the the life of an engine. Very interesting set-up!

    Very interesting indeed. I wonder why there’s not any companies jumping on the bandwagon to sell some solar panels. Awesome video. Thanks for sharing the info

      I wonder if they're all trying for too much, which is very expensive. This is a simple and inexpensive panel which easily paid for itself when I lived in a sunny place.
      I started with charging extra batteries for my cellphone and it reduced my bill by dozens of dollars. Often, my CZcams videos were 85% produced by solar panels (including all my daily phone use)! 😎👍
      I meant to edit some footage of it a couple years ago so this is a few generations of ideas in.

    A solar panel helps raise MPG because on a sunny day, the solar panel will serve as an assist to the alternator. In other words, the solar panel will carry some of the load that would normally all go to the alternator. If you had a 100W flexible solar panel permanently adhered to the roof of your car, for example, that solar panel would not only keep your battery "topped off", but on very sunny days, it would also provide about 60% of the power needed to run the fuel pump, the fuel injectors and the spark plugs. That 60% would normally be carried by the alternator, but on very sunny days, the alternator would run a little lighter, which means that the demand on the engine will be less, thus an increase in MPG.

      I think it should be covered when not driving as a battery could overcharge. Your idea honestly should save way more MPG than what I'm doing...just avoiding charging my cellphone while driving.

    Looks like it works👍 one of my biggest problems is keeping things charged on camping trips. Hot weather is the hardest thing to deal with when it comes to charging. Also I was thinking if you really want to test and see if that battery pack is a hack for the Heat, do a livestream with that phone while it's plugged in, it will answer a lot of questions💪🤠👍

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado  Před 4 lety +1

      That'd definitely be a tough test? Usually if I'm playing a hardware intensive game and listening to CZcams I get the overheat message, can't charge. I bet live streaming would do that too. I was thinking on trying to join live streaming soon.

      Thanks! Plenty of sunshine where you live yes?
      Update on that experiment. Sort of...my car I used a solar panel in for my phone so as to not ad to the alternators use from charging it, it's alternator was weak.
      When it gave out, with no signs of trouble on the way, my gas mileage went up from low 30's to 40 MPG on the highway immediately.
      Long story short, I want to do a retest to see if a healthy alternator has a more minor or even statistically insignificant change.

  • @funnypranker34
    @funnypranker34 Před 4 lety +1

    I didnt notice that mpg drops with charging your phone. So basically using the radio or the headlights which get power from the alternator kills gas mileage? Right now I got a van that I'm doing a project to bring ac power to the rear so I can run heavy duty appliances (aka mini fridges, computers, etc.) with the truck off on a budget. Got the batteries but not the solar panels themselves.

  • @Iam-wr7yn

    Interesting theory. Will have to think on that. Might be cause your motor not being loaded as much as it would have been with out a boost from the panel. I don't think you would see the same effect with the bigger engines and alt... #flyerstone

  • @theHDP
    @theHDP Před 4 lety

    How much do you think the size of alternator matter? Like a small car compared to a truck that has an alternator for running extra lights, fan, trailer etc.?🤔

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado  Před 4 lety +1

      I don't have for sure data yet beyond the Corolla, but clearly not charging your phone while driving does use less gasoline. It makes sense as the alternator output is always changing. More power used means more pull alternator pulley, serpentine belt, and the engine.

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado  Před 4 lety +1

      To partially answer your question, my truck with a lot of power doesn't care if I'm charging or not. I forgot I tested that. Not on an hour commute.
      2 hours plus is a long enough trip to see a 0.3 MPG difference in the Nissan Frontier. It's arguable that may not be a difference.
