    Just to be clear, "wet boiling point" refers to the lower boiling point you get when the fluid has absorbed water from the environment over time . " Dry" boiling point is the boilnig point of the fluid when it is new and has not absorbed any water - brake fluid absorbs water easily and that's why it's important to change brake fluid regularly .

      It’s supposed to be done on every car every 2 years, it’s also good to avoid opening the brake fluid tank, it’s not just that it absorbs water easily it’s that it will remove water from the air by absorbing it.

      @@MrTchou 2 years is for the common DOT3 fluid. If you're using DOT4 you should change the fluid even more often - every year is recommended.

      @@MrTchou I was referring to the need to change brake fluid more regularly than every 2 yeras for track/competition use . yes of course the moisture is coming from the air , but it's getting in through all the possible routes in the system, the small period of time when the brake fluid cap is taken off to top up reservoir is not an issue.

    Precision about the ABS, what it does is release the brake on the wheel that was locked and reapply the brake until it locks again (depending on the grip, related to the pressure of the brake pedal) if you’re still over the limit it will « vibrate » the pads by locking unlocking the wheel at quite high frequency, but if the reason why it locked was a temporary loss of grip like a wet patch or a small ice patch it won’t vibrate at all ; it will release and if the grip is sufficient it will keep braking without locking again.

    Loving these types of videos.. helps us newbs enjoy track days so much more with less mechanical drama. For example a simple thing like Dodson thermostats which Oleg recommended in a much older video that you did helped me so much with reducing cooling temps on the track.

    I have an issue with my FWD car, on the ring the ECS/ESP is always pinching the rear rotors in corners, like to help stability. But it is doing this all the time above 110kmh, with my barely loading up the tyres, which is a big problem, I'm afraid of the generated heat with a lap around the track.

    I’ve experienced this vibration you guys mention while on track after my brakes have warmed up. While driving on the road I don’t feel this vibration, but I am obviously not braking as hard. Is there any way to get rid of the pad deposits or do you need to replace disks?

    @Misha, I would have a question to you. Thinking of changing brake pads on my '14 B7 passat 4motion that I use in town, highway and country roads (also in winter Austria Alps for skiing) for having more friction, stopping power and less fade than OEM. I thought of Endless and EBC Blue / Yellowstuff. Although, I do not have endless distributor in Hungary, but only in Germany, so my question would be: which do you suggest (Endless / EBC) and where do you get endless from in Germany? Thank you very much! :)

    Excessively large disks are just as bad as undersized disks. Large rotation mass can be a detrimental effect. In situations when more power cannot be found to overcome it. And exceed the limits of available traction.
    "As large as needed without being too much is a good recipe for many things."

    the F80 front calipers yeah... BMW really got their shit together, especially after the E46 M3 CSL that had single piston floating front calipers, which is almost unbelievable. I have the front brakes from a M135i Competition, those are pretty robust as well, but they have only one downside: you can't pull pads out of the backside, you need to unmount the whole caliper for a pad change.

    If you're an excellent driver, you'll stop faster without ABS. If you're an average driver, and most of us are, you'll stop faster with ABS.
    I remember the obligatory session I had at a skid pan while training to get my driver's licence. And the difference between ABS and no ABS was mindblowing.

      It’s not really about being an excellent driver or not, ABS can regulate all wheels at the same time, you’d need 4 brake pedals and feet to be able to do the same. It doesn’t makes you stop faster but it will keep the directional control of the car (up to physics limits of course). It has been shown multiple times that ABS can significantly extend stopping distance on snow and ice for example,

      I beg to differ. I've had the pleasure of driving on a skid pan before getting my licence, and experiencing the difference between ABS and no ABS (the instructor could turn the ABS in his car on and off at the flick of a switch). For someone average like me, who didn't have that excellent feel for when the wheels were about to lock up, ABS was a huge life saver and game changer.
      In practical, real life ABS is the best thing that happened to the average driver since four wheel brakes were introduced. A truly skilled driver will still be able to outperform the ABS system, but such drivers are few and far between.

      @@hadtopicausername no driver can outbrake a properly working abs system. On a track you only use it in predictable ways (no obstacles; braking zones; you know the road surface etc). On the street you might take a turn on a winter day and have sunny/shady spots (sunlight between the trees). If you need to brake hard, the abs system will allow each individual tire to maximize the available grip while still letting you take the turn as much as possible. There is no way anyone could do this in a non-abs car.
      I drive a car with no abs too but i like to think i am aware of it's limits. If it is not completely dry outside i am a lot more cautious because of potentially hazardous situations (animals, idiots etc)

      I've seen tests where non ABS outbraked ABS, but it's only under very specific conditions. Most of the time, ABS wins hands down.
      Having driven an old swing axle Beetle a lot, I generally consider braking while in a corner to be a big no-no. I still carry that habit with me - slow down before the corner, not in it. I'll only brake mid corner if absolutely forced to.

      @@slaier57 well, one pad can’t be really really good in both road and (GP-)track at the same time:
      - MX72 perfekt for road, good for NOS, but will fail on GP
      - ME22 ok for road (maybe some weakness when really cold / initial bite), very good for NOS and good for GP
      - BMW MPerformance:
      Very good for NOS, good for GP, 100% road legal but they produce noise

    Air is compressible water isn’t, boiling fluid will compress and shorten the ‘rod’ of fluid resulting in a heart attack and brown lumpy fluid in your race suit when you press the brakes and nothing happens

      You still have to upgrade the brakes if you want to track your Porsche, i recall of a class friend whose father had a 911 CS and went to Magny-cours F1 track, his brakes lasted 1.5 laps, next time he went with upgraded pads and fluid.

      @@vollcare4076 the one from 1989 yes the Carrera ClubSport which was a limited serie if i recall correctly.
      It was supposed to be « track ready », suspension was tuned, it was lighter than the normal one, they stripped it from a lot of equipment etc…

    Experiencing judder from my GR’s front brakes and Toyota keep refusing to test the run out on them with a dial indicator to prove that they’re not warped. Handbrake keeps sticking the rear brakes make horrible scraping noises for the first couple of miles and then a constant high squeal at motorway speeds when hot…. Not a happy Toyota customer at this point. 5 year warranty against manufacturing and mechanical defects… Bullsh!t.
    They’re claiming ‘pad material build up’ to be the cause of both issues.

      @@dielaughing73 they blamed it on ‘pad material stuck to the discs. Then I finally made them do a run out check and they said they were ‘in spec’, despite the runout being over 3x higher than what f**king Hyundai would consider enough runout to warranty claim on.
      Gave up, I couldn’t afford the silly high prices they were after for discs. Don’t have the GR anymore but I’ll definitely get another in future.

    Poor George, he clearly doesn't like CZcams videos...but damn is he good! That actually makes it worse!
    Old story, when I was a child I was tortured with country music on repeat for years, the same 8 songs...well that is what it seemed like anyways. Family supper at Chinese restaurant, goes on for hours and then they bring out the Karaoke...I go out to the car for over and 1.5hrs and they are still in there. I go back inside and it's like time has stopped, and I'm it's tortured prisoner. Next I try to join them, cuz they were winning! The mic comes to me and they peer pressure me into singing...and I think to myself this is my chance! I am already a horrific singer but I was about to take it to the next level and and this party...so I thought. They didn't have much of a selection of songs but I found a stupid country song I was all too familiar with. I go for it...and FAIL so bad they were cheering me on to sing another one. As you might guess I was so mad I left back to the car with the bitter disappointment and possibly Karma for being good at singing the music I hate the most of all... We were there 6hrs...I was in the car for most of it. LOL
    I guess thems the brakes eh?

    Incorrect information there at the end. Latest ABS systems always lets you stop faster than any human intervention!

      Nope, on snow for example you stop faster by locking the wheels, it will aggregate snow just before the tyre, and this little bump that was built up acts as a stopping device on the wheel, ABS won’t allow for this to happen. ABS role isn’t to stop faster anyway, it’s to keep directional control of the car, allowing you to avoid something instead of sliding into it.

      ​@@MrTchou I should have mentioned that I meant only high mue friction surface. On high mue, latest generation ABS is the way to stop the fastest. ABS not only lets you stop faster but also keep steerability. You are right about low mue. On low mue, with the snow accumulation method during sliding, you do gain a bit in deceleration but you completely lose steerability.

      @@MrTchou brakes are a rabbit hole, so it's not easy to just simply correct what they said because even the explanations and validation are off. You are essentially asking for 30 minute discussion on brake lines by themselves to be condensed into 3 minute read. To be quick and reducing wasting my time further. Factory lines don't bulge until they get old. Only on a test bench are braided lines stiffer. Braided lines need to be replaced every 2 years because they don't pass any requirements for a road going car and their coating fails and let's dirt into the braiding. The rubber coating is superior because it's more resilient on corrosive environments. This is why braided lines have a silicon covering over the braiding to stop dirt getting in and putting holes in the Teflon. In a lot cases, OEM rubber lines are more expensive to produce than braided lines by companies that self certify. Unless it's an actual racecar, not a streetcar or track car, it's better to replace rubber lines on the 5 year schedule which is when they might start to deteriorate from high track temps. All this information is backed by companies like StopTech and OEMs in public marketing or direct conversations with brake engineers.
      I'm a brake nutcase, and it needs to be called out that what is shown in this video should not be taken as fact. Further research is needed before "upgrading" the car. Brake lines are 100% controversy topic, but it's only because of misinformation like in this video keeps getting repeated.

      @@piovo5222 No. The reason why they need to be replaced on a shorter schedule is because debris gets in-between the braid and puts a hole in the Teflon, super common. "Good" braided lines have an additional Teflon layer to protect against this, but those breakdown quickly in the elements and need to be inspected frequently.

    Funny how your using stock brakes when half the interweb says BMW brakes are made from cheese...maybe it was the previous M cars?!

      The new M cars have amazing brakes, I track my F80 M3 on stock calipers with upgraded pads and rotors and its perfect!

      Nurburgring is not THAT demanding on brakes to be honest. so for this use case, the stock blue caliper works fine (assuming you have high temp fluid and track pad). But on a more demanding track such as Laguna Seca, the stock brake just doesn't last.
