- Things have changed a lot since my great grandpa herded his sheep. Where in the past it was common for the owner of the sheep to stay with them, and herd them every day, things have changed! With all that we have going on, we are lucky to bring in guys that stay with our herds all year long. We are blessed to have such good help! These sheep herders we have working on our operation are hardworking, diligent Individuals who spend every day of the year with the herd in one way or another. Where the sheep go, they go. We are constantly moving locations for better feed and care for our sheep. When the sheep move through an area the herder pushes them to the best feed and puts them all together at night so our guard dogs can better protect them. Because our herders spend their days with the sheep, once a week they send us a list of the things that they need for themselves, the dogs, the horses, and the sheep. This video shows some of the process it takes to keep our herds stocked, healthy and happy.

I had a chance to be a sheep herder back in the late 70s , but I was driving truck already and decided to stay with it. The rancher made me a offer I couldn't hardly refuse. 🐑
Driving truck is a good way of life too! We spend a lot of time in trucks during the year moving sheep around, but definitely not as much as those like you going down the road!
I dont think you could ask for a cooler way to live. I just got some ewes on a solar site but running bands in the mountians would be so cool. Really awesome videos you put together, thank you.

Where are you fellas located? I met a Rob Mickell two years ago if my memory serves me correctly on the Manti Lasal. Top of Black Canyon. Super nice guy, I remember he was a mickell and ran sheep. I’m terrible with names.
I don’t know a rob mickel! We are in central Utah though! Right where you are talking!

They are built to last and to be lived in! We have a couple camps from the 50’s and 60’s that we still use today!

Being alone with a bunch of sheep in the middle of nowhere definitely simplifies life, which helps figure things out for sure!
