Flying Joby's Electric Air Taxi with a Pilot On Board

- We recently expanded our flight test program to include flying with a pilot on board our aircraft, a key step towards commercial operations of our electric air taxi.
Four members of Joby's flight test team have now piloted flights on board our pre-production prototype aircraft, completing a series of initial tests that include thrustborne hovers and forward transitions to semi-thrustborne flight.
This testing, which took place in Marina, California, complements ongoing flight testing at Edwards Air Force Base, where both Joby and US Air Force pilots will demonstrate the aircraft's capabilities in realistic operating scenarios. - Věda a technologie
Keep up the great work Joby. Proud to be an investor. Consistency is key.
Same here!
Fellow Joby stockholder

And I'm proud of you are being able to invest but there's so much going on in the world that I would love to catch one of those things especially to my daughter's grave which Sacrificed her life for the United sthanks but I can't I can barely afford a car it's all right God is good she's been gone almost 4 years now and I have some peace and God is good but this is only for the rich doesn't help me to go see my daughter at the military grave site doesn't help find Missing children choosing that have Cancer doesn't do any of that but it will cloud our skies The One thing I Want To be able to do before I die is to look at a CLEAR Blue sky Not with stuff all in it Amen
俺も日本🇯🇵から応援してるぜジョビー!夢見せてくれよな!
The Joby team know they have something very special. The technology is obviously there, but so is a top marketing team.
This was what the people wanted!
Really we would like takeoff fly and land in one unedited video without music.
No they didn't what did it solve ...electric...maybe a very expensive experiment for no reason! I think alot of these deals are like Fisker
Company went BK....FOUNDERS ALL BOUGHT HOUSE IN FLATHEAD MONTANA
I have no desire to get into somebody’s experiment for CZcams videos, without a pilot!
People would not even get in a Tesla without somebody sitting in the driver seat, this is ridiculous
I want to see the video the people at 0:42 were talking with their phones. Why didn't they post it on the internet?
Nah
Can you guys upload full testing videos like at 1:12 and with real sound and no music? I really enjoy watching stuff like this.
Yes, I can do without the music,
They dont upload real tests because they are so short and unimpressive. They can't just show awkward 30-second flights, so they need to edit them to make it interesting.
I live near the Marina airport and they routinely do 40-minute test flights (formerly at about 1200 ft but up to 2000 ft altitude now), so enough with the "only 30 second flights" nonsense.
@CraigCholar they would show that if they could do it.
The US Air Force has one at Edwards AFB, so yeah, it obviously can only fly for 30 seconds. /s

Just admit you shorted Joby already.
You guys make me excited about the future! Keep it going Joby!!
Welcome to the birthplace of aviation Joby! Dayton,Ohio can’t wait to see you up and running!
The good thing about the Joby design is that an emergency airframe parachute can be put on the roof and it won't be affected by the rotor blades looks like.
Finally, evtol by Joby is flew by man. Bravo
Short, but powerful 👍
Next one is about passengers going in and about ✌️
Keep it going Joby Team 😊
That’s sooooooooo coooool! Well done Joby and team 👍🏽
Awesome! Very excited for Joby and the future of travel.
Great aircraft for air ambulances. Advantages: 1) Quicker response time due to near immediate ignition (oops, start button) to lift off, 2) quieter
Love the baptizing, nice tradition after first solo flight :) Never forget my own but sadly they got forbidden cause some people, not actually there nor understanding the tradition behind it of course, got offended. So now it's not allowed anymore. I hate these times we live in.
The beginning of the new era
Looking forward to doing stories on Joby Aviation and team members!
Congratulations! Very cool to watch. All the best from Dayton, Ohio.
Yeeeeees!!! Yes yes, finally!! Awesome! Didnt think this day would come so soon! You guys did it, the first real manned test-flight of the big boy e-vtol contendors and were only in 2023. Congrats on beating Lilium to the punch on this one!
I've been investing Joby ever since they put their stock on. It finally paid off when they announced their factory site. We will need to have a little patience to have the stock grow on par with their factory's grand opening. Please keep up the good work, Joby.🎉
Well done Joby and team.
bad ass video, they hit him with the ice at the end
This is amazing,,I can’t wait…
Epic! Way to go guys and gals 🤩👍
Brilliant!
Looks like it flies great!
👏 Such an exciting milestone!
Nice!
Great production value of the presentation and well done Joby! Personally I think future EVTOLs will look more like Liliums concept, but that remains to be seen.
can't wait to fly one
Did you use different propellers for this flight with more drastic pitch?
So rad!
Excellent. That’s one important milestone the aviation community was waiting for. Now you have to demonstrate your playground in the payload range diagram.
What do you think of the pitch of the blades at 0:22? Does that seem extreme?
@@TheBagOfHoldingPlease elaborate.
@askingforafriend6540 it looks more like a fan pushing than a propeller lifting. The battery probably wouldn't last long like that. Maybe 3 minutes tops. I doubt it could lose one motor if it needs so much thrust.
@@TheBagOfHolding You do know what a variable pitch propeller is, right? They've been around for the last 100 years.
@@askingforafriend6540 those don't move. They probably need to swap them for lifting a person
How long did it stay up?
WTG Joby! It's hammer time :p
Very stylish video but the 1, 2 and 3 second shots (most of the video) are anti-informational and just plain annoying.

Does it have enough cabin space?
Would Joby make another autonomous shuttle evtol to take passengers between harbors? Or take harbor pilot on and off container ship (with heli pad) to/from seaport/airport? Or an evtol to shuttle between ships?
They can barely lift that guy for a few seconds at a time I don't think they are ready for all that.
Hallelujah!
It’s made to always have a pilot at the controls, correct? Asking for a friend that’s a helicopter pilot….it’s me, I’m the friend.
It was always designed to be flown by a pilot, but can also be operated remotely (which is what they have done up till now). Yes it will be a piloted air taxi, i cant imagine the regulators ever approving a remotely piloted vehicle carrying passengers. Who would they blame when something goes wrong.
How awesome! ❤ 1:33
Why do you keep hiding transitions and the sound? 🤔
When I see the first commercial ad...then I'll get excited on my investment!
Progress. Safety first. Video producers should have enough experience to get a job with Spielberg by the time this thing comes to completion.
Anyone know if this Joby aircraft can land like a regular aircraft? ie with props forward and coming in at lets say 100 mph? or lets say there's an engine problem, can the aircraft do a flare landing at high speed, ie dive to gain speed and flare right near the landing area?
No
Delta Airlines has also invested in Joby and they expect to be flying shuttles to the airport from other locations
Are those people taking videos with their phones allowed to post what they saw?
They should really have checked the company name in all languages before deciding on Joby!
Will this be a piloted aircraft?
So, without rudder pedals, how does the pilot control yaw during hover?
Maybe the forward and rear motor sets can rotate at different speeds and diffirent rotor tilt...
@@macmen007 My question is about the inceptors, not about the flight dynamics.
yaw of the cyclic? Good question
The same way a quadcopter does the flight controller changes the individual speeds of the different motors depending on the inputs. They could still use pedals or maybe they can twist the joystick to spin. That would be cool push for direction and twist to spin.
It doesn't have a rudder, but I believe it does have rudder pedals for yaw control. Probably by selectively tilting some of the rotors.
Well, it certainly is sexy and a nice demo. Cross fingers that many more will follow and lead to commercial service. :)
I want to work there! I want to contribute to the next and newest aviation technology. My qualifications: Senior FPGA design engineer, Senior Systems and Test Engineer, Senior Engineer Manager along with DO-254 experience.
If you get a job there you can be the whistle-blower
Crashing in one of these machines would be like jumping into a giant Cuisinart .
Range is 200 meters? Why not a longer flight ?
People are heavy and it can't fly long with one.
Awesome work @joby
❤❤❤❤❤globalskylove
Great investment (JOBY) at less than $6 a share! Bound to soar once the taxi's are initiated and in use!
"Um drone dji em tamanho grande com piloto dentro, nada mais!"
The only way I would pilot that is with a rc controller FROM THE GROUND.
Interesting and exciting, but 80%+ of the comments here look like Amazon reviews by "certified customers"
Pumped-up pipe dream. Yea, let’s all get in with the pilot who needs to wear a helmet!
Sure.
He needs a butt helmet and a shock absorbing seat.
Please stop with the bloody music.
The only ones making money off that bomb will be investors who sell their stock after the next promotional hype.
What’s the endurance in the hover, and the range/endurance in the cruise? There’s really nothing tricky about making a big multicopter, the critical things are whether it has a useful range and whether it can ever be safe enough to certify for pax.
Those details would be the end of the investor cash grab.
Indeed…..@@jondrew55
will be over sooner than people think. For starters, no one will enjoy buzzing overhead every few minutes, 2nd, as soon as one crashes in populated area, taking off from high scraper, it will be banned in metropolitan areas, so it will disappear from the market.
If the helicopter exists and it's safe nowadays, and it even can do autorotation, why choose these dangerous concepts with 6 engines? Using blades instead of rotating wings is too much dangerous! This will kill many people!
A 4 billion dollar valuation is outrageous for a startup like this. Hopefully it's play money.
And a note that yes this will bring jobs to Cincinnati but to a very few this still eliminates the population now maybe what in another 100 years it'll be a just easiest catch in the cab maybe but we gotta be aware of artificial intelligence and we gotta be aware about skies we wanna look at clear blue skies not stuff all in it
Another demo by another company with no high-speed forward flight. What's the real barrier?
AKA ….. a helicopter
lol how many golf membership, cigar smoking, wearing a baseball hat indoors, automatic transmission Ferrari owners does it take to pick this music?
Great planform.
Make The Joe To be a Passenger.
Really cool.
The footprint of a Huey but half the pax. Now do failure mode tests, Bird strikes and major power/thrust loss.
Autorotation isn't your option .
Yes this is huge but it should be huge for everyone not because Mike Duane said it because remembering he just released permission of all those guns and that we have an a gun problem but this airplane cap would be nice but only the rich are gonna be able to afford it and it separates us even more and we got children that have been raped and killed and missing and we can't put money into that and we got home listening to Cincinnati you can't put money into that we got veterans that are still homeless we can't put money into that boom
Cool…a big DJI drone!
