I live here. The ocean isn’t a “park” it’s a wilderness and when you go into it you may or may not be safe. People need to remember this fact at their peril.
Excellent and important point. Thank you
people are unaware but this is a Shark Parc...not a human parc 🦈🦈🦈
Why doesn't CA just ban sharks?

I never go in the ocean without an orca bodyguard.

No I go but I don't surf so I'm not that far away but attacks occur in knee deep water
You have a better chance of being killed by your own pet than a shark yes the ocean is scary but don’t just fear sharks because of random stories
Yes please
🤣👍
Let’s surf where there are lots of seals
Actually he was swimming but over the trench where large predators may frequent.
And swim in black suits.
And make a lot of interesting noises in the water.
well most of the seals are in La Jolla- some in Blacks. I've never seen a single seal north of Blacks and Solana is a good 20 minute drive north.
But there were Juvenille great whites spotted in Del Mar a week ago (between blacks and Solana), but the guy said he didn't see any north of 15th street cuz south of it are reefs. More marine life lives closer to the reefs. I looked it up and Solana has a reef in the north part away from shore. My best guess was that these swimmers swam from Fletchers Cove north and away from shore and towards the reef.
My point is, there is a way to be safer in the water but I mean, its always a risk I guess. The lesson seems to be, don't swim near the reefs.
And make our selfs look like seals
People have the right to surf. Sharks have the right to eat.
And we all have the right to watch the rest of this show someone put up a link ffs
Sharks do not need rights.
Because they eat them.

@@mikeoxsmal8022 right. This shark was mistaking this guy for a seal
I never understand the "shock". Sharks live in the ocean. That's why I don't go in it.
So true, I'd rather play in the sand.
When one acts like a seal, expect to be treated as one by the neighborhood.
^ How was anyone acting like a seal? Did you watch the video? They were not on surfboards which resemble seals from below, one. And secondly, they were doing the right thing and swimming in a group and that guy STILL got attacked. They were doing nothing wrong. It was completely a freak incident.
Well said!
Is this why people throw fish at me? I should knock it off balancing that that ball on the end of my nose, too.
Some bumrat "Letter J photo" named Joseph Donais is some extraneous Shark expert. You have been warned.
Wearing a black wetsuit and swimming near where seals are is a bad combination, just saying
It is a 2008 case.
But how is the trend so far?

Shark: I don't like these GMO seals swimming around our hunting grounds...rubbery tasting and bony too!
Shark: what's that clumsy looking animal swimming right above me? Looks like an easy meal and a quick snack to me. Let's go 😋
Humans: We own the planet

Wooh! I'm really surprised as in 50 years a shark had not attacked in San Diego, it's too dangerous to go to the ocean if you are not sure about the existence of sharks in the place. Going to the beach with your friends is a great experience but you have to remember "Do not underestimate the ocean because it is a dangerous place".
50 years since a fatal attack, non fatal attacks actually happen like once a year. In 2009 there was 6.

Thank you, marine biologist. I feel so much safer to swim in the sea now
Then stay away. It's too crowded already.
So we shouldn't take it personal? Lol kidding
It only will attack you if it thinks your a prey ? Not true ! Sharks are territorial and they will attack you to drive you off . They will attack you if your fishing there food source . They will bite you just like any other animal because they just dont like you .
They will happily eat you if they're Big enough too. Most of these drone Videos show juvenile gws
It is not the truth. A very hungry or injured shark will attack you to eat you. The tourism industry does whatever it can to cover up as many shark attacks as possible.
Swimming around seal colonies. ..looking just like a seal is not a good idea.
Itll be the same thing if you go into the jungle to do a physical activity you have a chance of getting attacked by a tiger.
I like how this is just a week after shark week and we are already on shark attacks and how sharks are deadly
Wrong channel
That is what the majority of people are interested in. What is so wrong with that?
@@kayjay592 they dont like to eat people usually
@@FAD4LIFE94 neither do bears, but everyone knows that it does happen. Only idiots believe the new innocent predator theories that seem to be all the rage now.
Sharks are the oceans cleaners. Most sharks feed on dead carcasses. Portraying them as mindless eating machines is incorrect. Majority of the time they are extremely discerning of their meal choice. Moreover, most shark encounters do not end in an attack, and even fewer end in predation. I understand attacks attract the most interest, but it is also making the shark a unnecessary villain.
Very early in the morning is known as the prime time for shark hunting - along with dusk or twilight - because the lighting best suits their stealth tactics.
I have lived near the ocean all of my life and I love looking at the water but it belongs to the sealife and I don't cross that line anymore. The number of shark attacks have been increasing and I don't understand why anyone would take the risk because it's not worth it. Getting eaten alive is a horrible way to go and it's not for me.
Finally, someone with wisdom...!!
Amen.
I dunno why anyone would ever drink water because 100% of people who drink water will die.
That doesn't compare to the amount of sharks killed by humans every year.
more humans die to refrigerators falling on them than sharks every year

Let's hope one day one of your child's doesn't get taken by one of these fishes. Let's see if you continue with that same dialog then 😉
Our slaughter of these predators has reduced shark populations to extinction for many species, and these animals are necessary for keeping the ocean clean and preventing overpopulation of other ocean wildlife.

I live here and surf/dive here in La Jolla Shores frequently. I know everyday that I enter the water I am going into a habitat that supports many different types of marine life. Every person who respectfully swims in the ocean should understand this, and many locals do. I'm very sorry for the loss of human life, but we all understand the circumstances. While this incident is incredibly rare, please do not demonize sharks for doing what is completely natural or develop a fear of them. I am more afraid of getting in a car and going on the freeway. Humans are reckless and unpredictable.
I wouldn't have demonized the shark, I just would have killed it, plain and simple.
put a go pro under your surf board, im sure many sharks have investigated you many times.
So true! I live here and absolutely love it. There are sharks that swim so close to people all the time but bc they are juveniles, they are not aggressive towards people. Your the first person who I ever heard say what is the truth in the best words. People get mad at sharks and they are in their world! That is not fair.
Love sharks and I will not be going in the ocean! I miss seeing it. Been 20 years now since I live in the Midwest. But if I did go in, I would know that was MY decision to take a risk.
Like walking into a jungle where lions are! Same thing!
It’s their habitat!
Sharks clean up our oceans, we need them!
The shark after the attack went to his friends and told them about his experience "It tasted REALLY good, you should give it a try". 2009: 6 attacks in 7 months. :(
Actually Esmeralda the shark whisperer said; the sharks don't like humans, too boney with very little meat.😕
I saw a shark 3' from shore in Santa Monica, I don't care if it was only 2' long, I haven't been in the water since, especially not after moving to SD.
It’s a wilderness out there and not a play park , we cant get over that. They are apex predators for a reason
50 years is their opinion, mine is that lots of people that disappear in the Pacific and they just get counted as drowned even if they never find a body. I wonder how many were actually sharks??? Just thinking out loud!
There's no such thing as a mistaken BITE. They bite to taste test. They know what a sea turtle / seal looks like. They also key off the bio electronic signature / heartbeat of their normal prey. Great White's have exceptional color contrast vision, and that box is sea through so.... He was just daring it to bite with that thing. I've surfed the Cali coastline all My life. Been bumped a few times. Seen White's and Mako eating in the wild more than a few times as a Marine.

Just sad. My condolences to his family.
For that simple reason, I do not swim in the oceans and the reason is not just sharks.
Personally, I would rather like to know where I place my feet and what is in my vicinity. Call me a chicken but the pain I endured stepping a dead crab some 40 years ago has some aspects of PTSD attached to it.
I think in most places your okay but in Australia the ocean is pretty deadly.

Just be safe out there people.
There are no safety measures you can take from a shark attack. You swim in the ocean, this is the risk you take. There is nothing you can do to prevent a shark attack while your in the water. They have poor eyesight and are their simply looking for a meal. You can't surf safe anymore than you an surf unsafe. If a shark wants to see if your a meal, he must bite you to find out. He's not going to stop and ask if your practicing safety haha.

Everyone is defending the sharks until they or their loved ones gets fatally attacked 👀
Do remember that it is your responsibility if you go to the beach. The beach and the sea is not a park, it is an entire wilderness with unique ecosystems.
Stay safe in the water this summer ,many bad thing happend this time
I live here and haven’t gone deep into the ocean since I saw a huge shark when I was swimming at Belmont Park Ocean at 11 years old.
The stretch of ocean and beaches between Stradbroke Island and Ballina (SE Qld and NE NSW in Australia) is chock a block with sharks, mostly Bulls, Tigers, and Great Whites. The Govt has the Gold Coast beaches netted, but they're useless for sharks, and dangerous to other fish and mammals. My point being, if you swim/surf/whatever around here, you're taking a big chance. But the state does love it's tourism dollars...
"everyone here has the same healthy ocean lifestyle vibe".. that is when you know you are in for a shock !
We are visitors in the ocean. We should realize that when we invade the ocean ecosystem including sharks.
Humans choose to enter the sharks domain.
You can't blame sharks for being sharks.
Was there any blaming of the shark here though, really? If so, what's the timestamp? I think that's your perception.
@@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism they legit called it a shark attack multiple times. An attack is intended assault whether it's used casually or not. Maybe they should use a different word instead of making it seem like the shark just decided to harm a human body
@@as19J01 The shark DID attack. That's what they do. They attack their prey. No doubt it was a case of mistaken identity and it meant to attack a seal instead of a human but make no mistake, he was attacked and would have been eaten if the shark thought he tasted good. Being a human, it didn't taste like prey so he abandoned the attack. Nonetheless the shark attacked him nonetheless.
at·tack - an aggressive and violent action against a person or place.
As you can see, the shark took an "aggressive and violent action" towards a person. It didn't INTEND to, but they have very, very poor eyesight. INTEND has nothing to do with being attacked.
The definition of attack, doesn't state that it has to be purposeful or not. It simply is.
@@as19J01 Keep in mind, humans attack sharks at far, far, far higher rates than sharks attack humans.
It's only a supremacist mindset that we focus on the attack towards us, rather than our attack on them. Regardless, "attack" is very appropriate, either direction because that's exactly what it is, with our "attack" on sharks being far more grotesque, because we actually INTEND to attack, just as we collectively "attack" mother earth herself at an alarming rate, not just sharks.
@@as19J01 you wasted air. Give it back.

Humans attacking sharks is a lot more prevalent than sharks attacking humans!
Some species of tuna are more endangered than sharks, why don't you worry about that? Why don't you rather care about the annual slaughter of Wales in Denmark and Japan every single year? This is much more shocking in my book.

There are mostly juvenile great whites in San Diego and they honestly do not even mess with surfers or swimmers. They are hunting for sting rays. MalibuArtist on utube flies his drone all the time, and time and time again the people don’t see the shark and they definitely dont attack. Their behavior seems to be pretty predictable which is a huge relief. Try not to go where there is a drop off because that’s the main place people get attacked in general.
