THANKS FOR WATCHING!
#homesteading #deepsouthhomestead #offgrid
I was being really shy about pruning my squash plants, but watching you bravely get IN there got me moving. Thanks!
Me too😅. Mine look so beautiful and I just didn't want to damage the plant.
I’m a 65 yr old Chicagoan that knows NOTHING about gardening. I find these videos so interesting. I sit here and say to myself, I didn’t know that..... never to old to learn.
Never to old to do it either. 😉
I know what you mean, but I am a farmers wife and I did not know a lot of these things! Good luck gardening! I hope you have a place to put one in!
pro trick : watch series on flixzone. Been using it for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.
@Rogelio Valentino Yup, been watching on flixzone for since november myself =)
I am 79 and spend many hours on the great videos from this site and others. I learn something all the time . I do forget it the next day, so i have to write it down. Happy gardening to all.
I could practically hear those plants sighing in relief with all that new airflow!
9:46 I love how a bee flew right into the flower after you cut that leaf, as if to help demonstrate your point🙂
Exactly perfect timing.
that was a staged BEE
Dang i missed that. lolol
I just did this last night. Im brand new and i noticed my little blooms falling off. My plants leaves are about 3 ft tall and in a raised bed. I just jumped in last night and started opening it up. Im glad i found you. Confirmation we know what we are doing even though we dont know it. Praying for my plants to start fruiting. I have 1 zuchinni and thousands of big leaves. No more im so proud ofnmyself. Im 63 and God told me to plant a seed. I have so many beautiful plants and i have a new perspective on happiness.
One of my favourite lines of yours is ' You are growing tomatoes not leaves '. That saying sticks in my head but lives there rent free 😄 Thank you for that little pearl of wisdom.
THIS IS SO TIMELY
I love listening to him talk. He sounds a lot like my dear Daddy who will be gone a year in June.
I'd like to learn more about how he lays his garden out!!
💛
Me too!
Thanks you answered all my questions. Now I know what to do. Looking forward for move fruits on my vine.
Love your presentation 👌
Once again, I'm leaving a little bit more knowledgeable than when I arrived! Thanks, Danny!
I’ve been told we prune to grow squash...not leaves.
And I prune the ones that are touching, the biggest ones and the ones that are not perfect. I also grow my squash in hay bales. They love it! 🥰 The more you prune, the more it grows. I prune my a lot.
Do tell about the hay please
Ive got plants i knew needed pruning thanks to a comment yall made a few years ago but didnt know how. I knew I could count on Danny to have a video. Thank yall so much❤
Thank you for sharing this important knowledge. For those of us that don’t have family that can pass on the tips and tricks not found books, this type of stuff is invaluable 🥗🌱🐝
Thank you for the detailed explanation on the "hows and whys" to pruning your squash plants. I learn so much from your years of experience.
I really learned something today,I never pruned squash I was afraid of hurting them.
This my first year growing squash thank you for the helpful tips
Mr Danny, one day, I’m going to have a garden as big as yours. This reminds me of my grandfathers gardens. He grew on 6 acres & it seems like every time you looked out there it was nothing but beautiful lush gardens. Because he worked in them from sun up until sundown. Very nice!
Very helpful tutorial. Thanks for the guidance on how to do it and also why to do it.
Thank you for teaching us how to prune squash. A better harvest to come.
This is only my third year growing summer squash, and it never occurred to me to prune it. Thank you so much for this!
My daddy would say - squash likes a sun roof, so Ive done this method on my squash as long as I can remember. Thank You Mr Danny for explaining why. Blessings Yall
Thanks for the reminder the way to prune my squash plants.
Thank you so much for this demonstration. I've grown squash for a number of years and was always reluctant to remove scorched or damaged leaves. I now understand the proper way to do so.
Thank you so very much for addressing the powdery mildew! Also, the little squashes that never grow to maturity!
Ty Mr. Danny. This is something that I never planted but this year I am. Wonderful video and lesson.
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule, both of you, to share your knowledge and wanting to help others. God bless you both!
Wow you guys are 3/4 weeks ahead of us here so glad I clicked this one thanks for this.
Great video! Grabbing my pruning shears and heading to prune my squash!
Thank you. I needed this today. Squash are doing amazing this year.
The way u orient ur plants is interesting u have a way of seeing things from a diff angle and the bonus is u CAN explain it so clearly thanks ill b considering all that when i plant in future👍👍👍❤❤❤
Never thought about pruning squash. Good to know.
Very helpful Danny, I learned a lot. I need to get out and prune! hanks so much.
So glad I found you I am first time gardener I am going to prune my leaves 🍃 in the morning
The bee at 9:46 was a paid actor!
Thanks so much! Just gaining knowledge on everything gardening-and so appreciate your teachings!
Thanks! I been gardening for about 6 years. So I’m still kind of new to this. I have had good success but not great success especially with squash. I have never really prunes my squash. You explained The who what where and how very well. Plainly. That’s what I was looking for. I like a neat well thought out productive garden. I also keep in mind the location of the rising and setting sun. A lot of folks think it’s just haphazard but it’s planned. Thanks.
Thank you for being so thorough. Your narrations are amazing.
After watching this tutorial I went out and pruned my squash and with all your tips I believe it went well. Thank you for sharing your expertise!
Danny..Great job! Can`t wait till you show folks how to Whip that okra!
In time.
Valuable info this 68 year old got an AH HAA moment from. Really enjoy your relaxed low key style. Thanks
Thank you so much!!!!!! It is so helpful! My 20 summer squash plants are grateful!!!🙏🏼
Good video, I am sitting at my desk yearning for the chance to put this in practice.
In all the years I've been gardening, I didn't know you were supposed to prune squash plants. I need to get mine pruned. Thank you for showing how to do this.
I started pruning mine today but didn’t finish. Tomorrow I’ll cut the stems off further away as you said. I did notice that they did kinda lose their base, so it makes sense to cut them shorter. Thank you!
I’m with you Danny, I prefer leaving some stem behind vs making a big wound in the stalk! I’ve seen wind take those squash like a sail and fling them around with those big ole leaves!
My goodness my squash out there looking like a umbrella, let me get out fhe bed while its cool lol. Thanks good info!
Thank you so much I am going to prune my squash today
Thank you for sharing your knowledge on pruning squash!
I absolutely appreciate the information you shared with us. I will definitely go out and do some more pruning to my squash plants. I enjoy listening to you talk!!
The stability readon definitely makes sense. I appreciate you soooooo much. I subscribed. You are awesome at this.
Super video! Thank you for pruning more than 1 plant! 💓
MUCH LOVE DANNY AND WANDA. I LOVE ME SOME SUMMER SQUASH AND I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!! GOD BLESS
If your gonna have bugs , your gonna have bugs. Exactly! I just finished pruning my squash and cucumber, came on in to see what you had to say on the matter. I pretty much mirrored what you did and didn't even know if it was right. First year growing squash and cucumber.
Thank you Danny! That’s was very helpful. I learned a lot! Amen! God bless you in return.
Learned a lot with the squash pruning. Mine are becoming overgrown. Thanks!
Excellent video! Thank you for all your guidance! You & Wanda are the best!!! God bless!
Thank you. I have the same issues to the leaves of my zucchini. Now, I know what to do. Your video helped me a lot. Merci beaucoup.
Goodness, Danny, you’re just all over the place. Keep it going! We love it!
Thank you so much they look so healthy. Now I'm of to prune my squash. Happy gardening!
You’ve given me some good advice! Thank you! 👍🏾👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙏🏿🙏🏿
I have never pruned my squash before, but after watching this I am going to this year. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
I pruned mine and l wk later the plant is dead from bugs. Neve prune again
I am a new gardener. This is so informative. Thank you.
So happy you addressed this! I was curious as well because I have had many un pollinated little squash’s in the past so hopefully by doing this I won’t have a problem this year! We are way behind you here in Central Oregon. I won’t be putting plants in the ground until late May-early June. Thank you!!
Excellent!
Thank you from a very novice gardener!!
I never knew this about cutting back the squash. Thank you so much for this information. You guys are so awesome. Wish I had you as my neighbors I could learn a lot!
O here's squash flowers they're beautiful 😍 😍 😍
Thanks you've been so helpful on pruning the squash.
Pruning is key with squash to help keep them healthy. I can’t believe you don’t have long sleeves on. Those prickly things on the stems irritate.
Girl my skin is like leather. I'm just a tough old bird.lol
Me too! I have to wear long sleeves or I itch!!
@@DeepSouthHomestead Yes. But you are a cute old bird!
Hi,I learn everytime I watch you. Thanks Danny and Wanda.Your squash looks real nice.♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡.....
You're awesome and real !! Keep doing videos to teach me !
A brilliant gardner.
Really what I needed to learn, as the first squashes are showing, Marita in Sweden
Clearest, most useful video I've seen on pruning squash. Just subscribed. Thanks!!
The leaves are perfectly good as chopped greens. They have a raspy surface and need about 4 to 5 minutes of boil time to alleviate that. They have great nutrition and come in handy as the kale and collards die out. The male flowers, just before they start to open and let insects in are also edible and nutritious. Same applies to okra leaves and flowers, but with okra flowers, you can pick them after they open, as long as the bumble bees are not getting their lunch down in there.
I need one thing from you - PLEASE send me some of your warm weather !!!! Northern MI and we're having 30' and 40's day time high's with snow flurries this weekend. and so far this month !! Your garden is just so beautiful !! But as you said before -" you get out of it what you put in it ". So true. But I can't put sunshine and warmth into it. Thank's for all the great info/video's. Stay safe and healthy. God bless
This is all part of the 400 year cycle of the Grand solar minimum.
I'm from Germany and we slice our potatoes for potato salad, which normally requires a more waxy potato. Yukon Gold is ok, but I only use the smaller ones for salad. I also use them for American Fried potatoes, Hash Browns and O'Briens.
First garden last year heard about this and tried it midsummer and was shocked at how much more squash I got
Great video!!!! Thanks for sharing! I'm growing summer squash for the first time in GA this year, and I needed to see this video! It was great!
Cool,our plants are getting huge,now i know how to prune😁...i 💜learning,and y'all are a wealth of knowledge. 😊
Thank you so much. I cut My squash this morning it was so hard to get to him and I had some that were not pollinated. Thank you so much I’m going back out and trim my plants now I know how. Great video
Thank you for this very informative lesson on pruning zucchini.
Sure would be nice to see more pruning videos about how you go about pruning a mess of your crops grown in Mississippi. 👍
My Granny said to trim...so snakes had no place to hide..lol
The plants look so happy 😊
And our chickens loved the extra greens
Always learning something new you have beautiful garden
Thank you sir!! I've learned a lot... gonna get outside and start cutting!!!
Many great tips in this video, thanks for sharing. The tip that I want to share is that squash plant leaves are edible, cook as other greens, don't eat raw.
Makes perfect sense, thanks, I’ll do this from now on. You’re right we’re growing squash, not leaves, lol.
Thank You very much from a first time gardener...
That was so informative!!!!! Thank you. Danny!
Pruned mine today. There are very few bees. Have plenty of blooms but pollination failures. Good point on wind. Never thought of that. We need a Danny/ Wanda/ deepsouth Master Gardner Class.
Thank you for info!🙏🙏 Bless you. You are doing a great job!!! Enjoy your harvest!!!
Great info! Thank you, Danny!! I'm going to do this with my squash plants this year!
Thanks Danny! This is helpful!
Thanks for this info Danny.
Wow. Thanks Danny. I didn’t know to do that. Thanks so much !!!
Thank you Danny! I'm going to try this.
