Saying Goodbye to My FJ Cruiser

  • My 2007 FJ Cruiser was recently totaled in the middle of the night while parked on a quiet street. At first glance it did not look like it was going to be repairable but sadly the insurance companies deemed it a total loss.
The FJ has been a fantastic daily driver for me over the last 11 years and I had plans to build a galley kitchen for the back of it this winter and looked forward to keeping it for another 5-10 years. Unfortunately it does not take a tremendous amount of damage to 'total' a vehicle these days.
I am now faced with the challenge of finding a good winter-capable replacement vehicle during these challenging times for the auto industry. Join me again here soon to see what transpires.
Thanks for watching. Feel free to leave questions and comments if you have them.
    Cheers,
    Fred

Very sad to lose another FJ, glad you weren't hurt/in it when it happened. Fingers crossed you will find something nice to replace it with. Cheers

I appreciate the sentiment. It did hurt and I have not found my long term replacement yet but I did just land a decent option that will be a fun project and a good daily driver until things get a little more normal with the industry. Intro to that is coming up soon.
      Cheers..

I'd buy it back from the insurance Co. They still manufacture the qtr panels and the miss alignment I'd live with. Depends on your life situation and space ect ect. GL

Unfortunate to see this, especially since this was something you had no control over. I've never had to deal with a totalled vehicle, but I imagine you could part this out and recover a little bit of the dough you put into it. People would do the same at the junkyards anyway. Hope to see you in another FJ.

Could have bought the salvage and come out a little ahead, I think, but decided to settle and collect. I'd love to see a next gen FJ but will probably go will be going a different route for now.

Durango Colorado? I used to work on the railroad! Sad to see the FJ go! Save that front bumper though! Part it out if you can, I have an expedition one bumper too and yours is perfectly good to go! Same with the winch, I wish I had your winch in my bumper! Interested in selling the bumper or any other parts from it?

Ah yes, the railroad. I know several folks associated with the railroad in different capacities. Sorry to say, it all went down the road. State Farm was pretty good to me, but I was never going to get what I could have sold it for. Thanks for the interest though..
