  • John from www.okraw.com/ shares with you 10 things he failed to realize or did not want to recognize as a raw vegan from the time he started living a raw vegan diet 27 years ago.
    In this episode, you will learn some of the beliefs John had when he was younger and how his raw vegan diet and belief system have changed over time. You will learn about some of the raw food dogma aka raw food teachings that are still taught today to encourage people to eat an exclusive raw vegan diet as some raw vegans make out all heat-processed aka cooked food as bad.
    You will discover John's opinion on cooked food vs raw vegan food these days as well as why raw vegan is not as important to him at this point in his life. You will learn some of the key research and testing John has done that caused him to change his opinions.
    You will learn about John's Microbiome testing and what it revealed to him, which was one of the factors he took into consideration before making changes to include small amounts of heat-processed foods into his diet.
    You will learn the old belief and John's reformed beliefs about many topics including leukocytosis, starches, microbiome, antioxidants, polyphenols, enzymes, and more.
    After watching this episode, you will learn more about John's divergent raw vegan diet and how he has shifted his diet as well as changed some of his beliefs.

    Note: My mother was overweight for many years. My dad was always thin. And she didn't exercise. She lived till almost 94. I was in charge of her diet for the last 6 years 100%. So I must say, she was not a smoker, a drinker, and she never did drugs. So I'm sure that helped a lot.
    However, she had absolutely no stress and she went out everyday on her scooter and always met with community friends. Happiness, joy, faith, contentment, not arguing or fighting, and peace are just as important as an awesome diet. Her diet was over 90% organic healthy food vegan, 50% raw, and a wide variety of nuts vegetables fruits seeds, OO, greens and mainly non-dairy. I will tell you, she had
    2-3 28 Oz smoothies per day with at least 10-15 organic ingredients in them.

      You’re 100% right about happiness and contentment being as important as diet. I would say it’s even more important. I’ve been a vegan for 6 years, but after an infection I developed what I now know is limbic system impairment. And I tell you, you could it the best diet on the planet but the only way you fix that kind of neurological or psychological issues (which have huge implications in your physical health) is with your thinking. Suuuuper important. I’m looking into neuroplasticity and started the DNRS program and it’s blowing my mind.

    Kudos to you John, for taking in more information, and making changes to your belief system when warranted. That's all too rare these days. People generally don't want to open-mindedly examine information that contradicts their belief system, nor admit when they're wrong, even to themselves. This can literally be detrimental to their health.

    I jumped on the raw vegan wagon wholeheartedly and failed miserably… I saw so many CZcamsrs thriving, loving life, and I wanted that so badly for myself. When my physical and mental health were failing, I couldn’t let go of the dogma enough to truly listen to my body, and instead I thought I must not be doing things 100% right. This led me to strict disordered eating that took over my life.
    The rebound from such dogmatic eating has been a difficult one, and I’m finally finding a way of eating that allows me to thrive.
    The theories behind raw/veganism are very convincing, especially for those who have a soft spot for animals and are concerned about our planet.
    I’m taking a trip down memory lane, checking in with the raw foodies and frugívoros that inspired me back in the day. Only two are still thriving, the rest have either changed their diets, aged horribly, or encountered some significant health issues.
    I appreciate you making this video and being as transparent as you are!

      @@LelandReview honestly I could spit a million and one facts about why a vegan diet is for optimum health but it's not my page nor do I feel like arguing with people on the internet. If other people want to eat dead meat. They can do it. But I did my research and have been vegan for almost 13 years and never would I ever go back.
      Yesterday I have a vegan seiten nugget thing and it pulled apart like chicken and I actually threw it away I could not eat it. It looked like real chicken and I gagged. It was disgusting. I did not expect it to be like that realistic.
      I am not one for fake meats or anything else like that. But I know plants can come in only so many shapes and sizes and they often mimic what meat eaters claim as their foods 😅😅 which is funny. But anyways.
      It's not for me. Even something remotely similar. My brain chemistry cannot digest, eat or desire.
      This is me.
      And I have perfect health. 37 this year and look and feel wonderful. No health issues. No medications. Primarily high raw fruits and veggies, juices and occasionally cooked dishes when I feel like it.
      Thinking to go from one extreme to another makes no sense!!!

      @@katbrodycz Two things for you to consider. One, animal sacrifice is the foundation of everything. Its part of the history of every land on Earth. Even our Moon, check out the "Moon Rabbit" wiki. Its the story of the Rabbit that threw itself into the fire to save a man from starving.
      Second I can challenge any vegan to kill less animals in a year. A hunter in Northern Ontario can put 1 moose in his deep freezer and feed a family for a whole year. When avocado farms do untold amounts of damage to animals and the environment. Not to mention almond farms. You should watch my video about the World Elephant. It's sacrifice created all of South America. We should never pretend humans can exist without animal sacrifice. What they did for us is very sacred. We should always honor them for it. I'm trying to learn to eat liver because its often wasted. And can keep your energy levels higher longer then any plants can. That's why our Grandmas used to try get us to eat it.

    • @LelandReview
      @LelandReview Před rokem +1

      @@katbrodycz I understand eating meat is gross. I can't even eat liver yet, liverwurst is the most I can handle. But is it ever amazing how much energy you get from it. Dare you to try it and see the difference. My family tried going vegan. My brother ended up in emerg with failing pancreas. I got permanent memory loss. So I try to warn others how dangerous it can be. Veganism can seem good but its burning the candle at both ends. Flame burns bright but faster. 30 years vegan your whole body will start shutting down. Founder of the Vegan society died of heart attack at age 66. Animal products are essential for good heart health.

    The thing is that most raw vegans don’t seem to know or acknowledge is they often come into this lifestyle sick. Usually when you feel rubbish or tired or congested with cooked foods is because the person has damaged stomach glands, low stomach acid, a sluggish or toxic liver and parasites or bacteria we don’t want to have in our colon. And nutrient deficiencies!
    That’s why we feel so good on raw foods as they basically digest themselves.
    But I still think raw foods are where it’s at especially if someone wants to heal 😊
    Very interesting video and thanks for sharing your experience!!

    I love this, Mr kohler. Bless you for being honest and transparent on your journey.
    It's difficult to find comprehensive information from any one source. People do get sensitive and defensive. I think it's because they're not able to justify their view in light of the new information being presented to them.
    And those of us who suffered greatly, and then rose from the ashes into great heights when we finally figured out how to get rid of our symptoms, are more than determined to maintain our health. It can be scary to try something different because we don't want those symptoms to come back and we know how hard it was to get rid of them. But then when new symptoms arrise, that's what motivates us to question what we've been doing. This is my experience.

    You are still "da man" of gardeners on youtube to me, that taught me to use worm compost and rock dust (amongst other things of course).
    By chance, because when I searched "how to garden organic" for the first time, many many years ago (perhaps even a decade by now lol) your channel was the first to pop up.
    And I've been getting great results from the start, so many thanks. I tried vegan, never raw though, but my auto immune diseases and mental problems got worse on it. I have many allergies, so probably also to many plant compounds. But cooked, the allergic reaction usually disappears (with tomatoes for example).

    Nice haircut, John. Thank you for sharing your years of experience with this diet. You're giving us the concepts and information that we desperately need to discover and follow. I finished a 94 day juice fast a little under a year ago and I've found that processed foods are absolute poison to one's system, even in small doses. I do agree that when eating cooked food, it should be steamed or put it a pressure cooker too. In my old diet, and when I learned about mono meals, I thought it was awful and I wouldn't be able to do it. Now, I'm happily eating a large bowl of apples (or whatever fruit is in season at the time) every day. It's great. These diet changes have really improved my life and I hope that more people will start being their own scientists and find out how their system works for their benefit. You're doing great work. Thanks again for sharing this information and have a great night.

      Hello...I'm curious about your juice fast. I'm on day 59 of a juice fast. Just ginger blasts and citrus. My goal is to get rid of mucoid plaque. Haven't seen any yet. Don't know for sure I have any, but everyone fasting talks about it, and I'm 73, ate junk for a long time, so I'm assuming I have it. Did you pass plaque? If so, about what day in your fast? Why did you quit at 94 days? I'm at the point where I'm starting to wonder if I should quit the fast. What things did you consider in deciding to end the fast? Thanks.

    • @NUMSFILMS
      @NUMSFILMS Před rokem

      @@broadcasttttable Day 59! That's great! I started seeing some weird stuff on Day 22, but I wouldn't say it was mucoid plaque. Visible parasites started coming out around Day 29. Day 57 was the first definite mucoid plaque, then Day 67-91 was lots of crazy looking mucoid coming out about every other day. Some of it looked and smelled like a rubber tire. If you're feeling up to it, I'd say keep going because the stuff really is in there and READY to come out. Psyllium Husk w/ Bentonite Clay assisted in the journey, and I'd recommend you trying that out. I passed a lot of MP without it though. When I started adding more citrus and astringent juice, then the stuff started coming out faster. Adding grapefruit, lemon, orange and dill started to do the trick on my plaque. I stopped at 94 because my original goal was 90 days, and I was really feeling burnt out (my wallet was too). It just felt right to stop. 73 and eating junk food a lot? YES! The mucoid is in there! It needs some time to loosen up.

    Always some good info here, thank you, John. So leucocytosis is only caused by animal products...
    A brief note about the 'gut buddies' though- as far as I know, one of the main reasons for keeping them diverse is because while they are fighting between each other they have no time to fight our immune system. Also, the main reason for providing fiber/starch is so that they would not change to protein-eating ( which many of them can easily do) and then attack our gut lining out of lack of nutrients. As for SCFAs, do we really need a lot of them? And what about the B12- eating commensal gut bacteria? Imao, the less of these we buddies we have in our guts, the better. As the phrase goes: "Less is more".

    Carrots and greens are examples of foods that are better eaten cooked. Most of the nutrients in these foods aren't absorbed welll unless they are cooked, because they are trapped within the hard cells of the plants. Also, for people with poorer dentition (teeth), cooking is necessary. But it's perfectly OK to eat some raw foods, particularly if you are on a weight-loss diet, as it will provide bulk and some nutrients.

    Excited to watch this later. Im aiming vegan but I just don't think I can go fully raw at this point. Ive had excellent healing results from some cooked foods like acorn squash, pumpkin, cranberry sauce. Great to get rid of pathogenic business. I think an abundant raw food period can also be excellent for healing and I intend to do it at some point, especially in summer. Meat raises body temp. I do believe in eating meat, but sparingly, in times of need like a famine or winter. I avoid soy, and most conventional meat is fed soy, chicken, cows, pigs. Not sure about turkey. Avoiding soy is hard, but Im getting much better at it. I also avoid black beans, as like meat, they are high in proline, which is shown to contribute to depression. Ive had a bowl of black beans put me in bed. No one set diet is correct all the time. I avoid high estrogenic foods like spinach and almonds. Almonds milk, even home made, at the wrong time of the month, when progesterone is low, will crash me. Too much estrogen on low progesterone. Dr. Mindy Pelz teaches about fasting, how to start how to stop, when to, and most importantly when not to, and ladies its pre cycle. Feast. Its time to nourish the body. Fasting is the exact opposite. You don't fast and you don't eat a ton of estrogenic foods no matter what diet you adhere to. Soy is not great even if its organic at that time of the month. I personally think soy is an invasive species eaten in quantities no one should. Ive recently discovered tofu and miso made from other things. I have the soy free miso and love it.
    Point is what we eat affects our bodies.
    Also what we eat doesn't just feed us. On one hand we need to culture a healthy microbiome, and on the other we need to actively defend against pathogenic things living in us also via food. And some cooked foods are great for that. I once read that gorilla's eat over 120 different plant foods. I may have learned that from Lissa's raw food romance. But I also learned they know when they have a parasite, and will separate from the group and go eat the exact right things to clear it out. Im still new on my journey, and have lots of healing and changes still to make, though I've made much progress. But the more I learn the more I'm like, you know, there's a time. And vegans, anyone really, who can't, can't fast, like struggle too, its painfully difficult....it might not be them that's putting up the fight. My ability to fast increased exponentially after I started eating acorn squash, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes. Foul stuff left, and I suddenly didn't mind longer periods without food. But Im a huge fan of getting in enzymes from raw food, I for sure need more of that. Still working on getting in those wonderful large salads.

Anyway, good for you, always learning, and sharing.

  • @omjoeandsteve

    Thank you for making this video. I eat 95% raw foods (transitioned to this point over a year), with the other 5% consisting of cooked vegetables, sweet potatoes and sometimes fruits. I do sometimes "cheat" with other things like rice and very rarely vegan sweets. The point you make about leukocytosis with foreign proteins especially rings true with me. I can tell when I am having an immune response to eating something, within a few minutes I feel an inflammation start up in my gut and spread through my body. What I have found is that cooked fruits, vegetables, and starches do not cause any kind of issue like this. However, cooked proteins, even plant proteins like cooked legumes (especially when cooked in a more destructive way) always cause this inflammation in me.
    Interestingly, after a 30 day juice fast was when I became unable to handle gluten or cooked beans. I got out some mucoid plaque during that fast so my initial interpretation was that removing the crap exposed the sensitive tissue underneath that is now more able to react how it normally would. I guess another interpretation could be that my microbiome that used to be able to deal with those died out. I'm still leaning towards the former explanation but I'm not sure. My health and energy have drastically improved in every other way since starting on this healthy diet path. Only thing that is still weak is my digestive system. I guess that just takes time, but also I want to be very careful what direction I go in now as I'm early on so that I don't make mistakes I'll have to fix later down the road.

      @omjoeandsteve Před rokem +1

      @@coloredbymaia6476 I would suggest shorter juice fasts with few days of eating in between. It is less intense and mostly won't cause new sensitivities, and still results in similar kind of mechanical cleansing, or maybe even better because of the fiber going through periodically. The days of eating in between should ideally be not mucus forming (just fruits and vegetables, including some cooked is fine if you combine with a salad). Things like nuts and starches shouldn't be eaten right after the fast but you can start eating them little bit after a few days.

    What about cooked plantains and cooked Kabocha squash? I remember someone telling me enzymes were not alive that they are a chemical reaction. Then when I heard about prebiotics I was wondering if they were like the catalyst life force touted as living food? Pandas do not only eat bamboo, koalas do not eat only eucalyptus. Koalas actually use eucalyptus like a strong musk smell maybe during breeding can't remember? Humans have caused problems by limiting their diets and by reducing and continued reducing of animal habitats. There is a good CZcams video that talks about how people are building homes and roads and endangering koalas. Then they also had those terrible fires in Australia. Koalas and all animals need large areas to be nomadic. Koalas have a long appendix (appendices?) area and so do other animals (from eating greens I think?) Ours appendix is shriveled but may have been important like theirs in digestion is my speculation. I don't know if chimps and gorillas have larger appendices can't remember. My eating habits are crap. I know primates and other animals in zoos are becoming infertile. Chimps and maybe other primates also are becoming hairless in zoos and I think it has everything to do with limited diet. But hairless chimps are still genetically very muscular. This is somewhat like rambling but I do care too.

    Really love your videos. Thanks you so much for the info. I recently went raw vegan my self. The science is all over the place sadly when it comes to nutrition. But I believe it was Dr. Sandra Michaels that said this and I believe it as it makes sense and I believe in quantum science. "You don't get life energy from dead energy". And since the food is killed in the cooking process at an energetic level this makes sense to me . Curious what you and any one else thinks about this.
    In case any one is interested I also recommend checking out her EE System and how its quantum zero point energy has helped sooo many people heal them selves from "incurable" diseases and very quickly as well.
    Also, what's your opinion on eating regular potatoes raw? This is also all over the place. I actually contacted Dr. McDougal, I think it may have been his wife that emailed me back though, and they said eating them raw is fine. I've also seen a raw health coach online say its fine as well in a raw mashed potatoes video she made. Not sure which side of the argument is wrong here in regards to anti nutrients and alkaloids and raw potatoes being bad for us.
