U.S.-Philippines Builds New Coast Guard Post on Thitu Island, South China Sea
The Philippines is developing a Coast Guard post on Thitu Island in the South China Sea to increase its strength. This step was taken in line with tensions with China in disputed areas in the waters of the South China Sea. The new Coast Guard post on Thitu Island was inaugurated on Friday (1/12/2023). Thitu Island was occupied by the Philippine military in the 1970s during the presidency of Ferdinand Marcos when the area was evacuated by the Taiwanese Marine Corps to avoid a storm. Taiwan and China refer to Thitu Island as Zhong Ye Island. The development of the Coast Guard post on Thitu Island is expected to add strength to the Philippine Armed Forces. Confrontations between the Philippine Coast Guard and the Chinese Coast Guard have repeatedly occurred throughout this year, especially in Second Thomas Shoal, where the Philippine Navy ship, BRP Sierra Madre, was grounded and turned into a military post. The confrontations are feared to escalate and could involve the United States, a Philippine ally.

Mas mura ang magtayo ng base militar at coastguard sa mga pinaka dulong boundary ng Pilipinas particular sa west phillipine sea kaysa bumili ng mga barko na magbabantay sa mga intruder na mga chinese. Dapat mayroon kahit isang tag iisang tangke, isang short range missile, small military boat, helicopter pad for immediate receive ng supply, at mga importante communication na madaling makapag send ng message sa main base ng AFP for back up if needed. Yung mga long range missiles na aabot sa mga barko ng china at sa artificial island nila sa sinakop na teritoryo dapat sekreto ang location sa mga tuktok ng bundok, para di ma target ng mga intruder.
