This wood cooler will be a great piece of furniture for your deck or patio. It keeps drinks icy cold and serves as a perfect serving station. This wood cooler cart is made with dimension lumber you can get at any home center or lumber yard. All you have to do is cut the boards to length and follow our simple assembly instructions. This is a woodworking project that even a beginning woodworker or DIYer can build.
We partnered with Gorilla Glue to design and build this cooler cart project that uses many of their latest products, including Clear Gorilla Glue and Gorilla Silicone Sealant. Learn more about these products and where to get them at: www.gorillatoug...
I really like how you built this cooler. Very nice!!
I love this cooler, especially the low profile lid. The one thing I hate about the ones with the ice chest inside is the huge wood box they use to house the original lid. I've always wondered if the foam, aluminum, and silicon method would work. Now I know it does, so I will make an outdoor kitchen drawer with this method for storing cold drinks.
Thanks Saul! Sealing the aluminum joints worked very well. It holds water. The drain spout is the one point that is most prone to leak. We took extra care to seal those pipe connections with teflon tape and used plenty sealant around the hole in the aluminum that the spout goes through. You might want to consider using some rubber washers or gaskets to help seal that opening. Good luck with your projects.
WoodworkersJournal you guys are awesome! I love your content and always look forward to your posts. Thanks you!
Cool project with a great video.
This is awesome. I have built a couple of these for friends but with ice chests but really like this idea also! You could add a shelf on the bottom to add strength and space for additional drinks or even a plant for decoration piece on the patio.
We like the shelf idea. That was something we discussed and it just didn't make it into the final design.
Wudnt it be better to put the drainage at the bottom?
Thank you for the video and plans. A friend has been after me to make a box just like this. Once question I have is; this appears to be made from Cedar. Did you have to plane the wood down prior to build? The only cedar I can find is exterior grade and VERY rough.
We used the 1x cedar that you're describing. It's actually 7/8-in. thick and rough on one face. The dimensions in the plan download are based on that type of cedar. We did sand the rough side smooth on some of the pieces to make it look a little cleaner for the video, but you don't need to smooth it. You could build it with the smooth sides up and hide the rough faces on the inside. Good luck with our project!
how many cedar boards did you use?
What kind of lumber did you use?
Have you seen the price of aluminum lately!!!
nice video and well done project, but if "gorilla glue" is sponsoring the video shouldn't you mention that?
It is noted and linked in the description, but you're right we usually also note that in the video. It was an honest oversight in the edit.
