I worked on WW84 as a set painter for 3 months in NOVA & D.C. it was a lot of fun to turn the empty Landmark Mall into what it was in 1984. No detail was overlooked, even the video game arcade (time out) had every period game that would have been there. All the extras looked great. I believe Patty the director grew up in the DC Punk scene. We rebuilt the old DC store Commander Salamander to look like it did when I was a kid. The movie was hard to watch, but the work was fun & I explored every single room in that mall & got stuck in a couple old freight elevators. 🤘🏼

Patty Jenkins is a pretty good director. Action scenes are well shot even if they make no sense. But her writing is TERRIBLE. This really goes to show how important a good script is. Acting and directing can’t save a bad script.

I find it incredibly ironic how the movie makes Wonder Woman, a superhero that is supposed to represent female empowerment, completely shackled to her feelings over a guy she literally only knew for a few weeks hundreds of years ago.

1) it was like 30 years ago
2) I think she's more lonely than missing Steve in particular, although she definitely misses them and thinks about what their life must have been
3) there is nothing unimpowering or unheroic about someone wanting love. That's kind of her whole deal. Also it makes her more relatable and interesting.
The Mandalorian's oath requires he never take his helmet off when he might be seen by others, but the audience gets occasional peeks so we know he has a secret mustache under there. Nobody has ever given me a reason why the hell a man whose face is always hidden wants the hassles of a mustache ... but seeing Mr. Pascal here without one, I finally get it.

There's no side effects after Lord Maxwell becomes the stone. In return for a wish he takes a bit of their life force. This serves him & them.
When Lord Maxwell wants other things like oil, power etc, he intends to persuade them into making that wish.
The movie then proceeds to then break its own logic in the last 30-40mins of the movie remaining.
The whole "everyone gets their wish" is so stupid because there would literally be millions if not billions of conflicting wishes
Many people would wish for evil things like return of the Nazis, Some Russian would wish for the soviet era, japan would wish for their empire back, there would be so many genocides would wide, entire countries population would vanish, what if someone wish for everyone on earth to vanish like those tree huggers.

The fact that the dream stone actually can just materialize things from nothing makes the decision to have Steve possess some rando even weirder. The only reason it would make any sense to do that would be to set the rando up as a character who would be important later, like, maybe this guy was actually J’onn J’onzz, the Martian Manhunter disguised as a human, or maybe he’s Green Lantern Hal Jordan’s father, or a younger Kent Nelson, aka Dr Fate, or Ted Kord, the Blue Beetle, or any character they could’ve possibly set up. But they didn’t do that.
The film Dream Stone is nothing like the comic version. The Stone was the property of the King of the Dreaming himself "Morpheus" or the Sandman.

Ironic how Diana was told by her mother that truth is the most important thing, yet she lied to her about her entire upbringing in the last movie.
Maybe she acted like truth was such a big deal so that no one would use the Lasso Of Truth on her. They would assume she always told the truth, thus making it seem like she had nothing to hide.

Also this movie contradicts the first one. In the first one, it was shown Diana wasn't allowed to fight as a child since the Queen wanted her to enjoy her childhood and it wasn't until she was in her late teen years that Queen finally consented.

This movie lost all my respect now, i was barley hanging on with it but this comment just made me realize how lazy this movie really is and it's unacceptable
It's strange because Maxwell Lord is a villain from the comic books that Wonder Woman infamously killed on live television to stop him from mind controlling Superman. Despite the other heroes being angry at her afterward for killing somebody, Wonder Woman refused to apologize and believed that killing Max was necessary and justified. I'm kinda tired of the story of heroes being forced to kill somebody for the greater good despite their moral codes like in the first Superman movie, wouldn't have liked that. But I liked the original story about Max's death because it kinda hammered home how much the heroes rely on their reputation and public opinion, with WW accusing the other heroes of being angry at her only because she killed Max while being recorded. Throwing out any vestige of the original story while still clearly referencing it and replacing it with just 'don't kill ever for any reason' is a bit insulting. Maybe the writer of this movie just really hated that comic book and wanted to rewrite in any way they could.
Especially since Maxwell Lord was just as big a monster as the literal monsters Wonder Woman fought like Medusa, but because they weren’t human it was okay to kill them despite also having sapience and free will.
According to Google, Batfleck was born around 1972, so just imagine for a second that he wishes his parents came back and then they just went away again 😂 😂

I remember watching this movie with my dad and us both laughing our asses off at how the gravity of everything looked when she swung with her whip or whenever she jumped

I wanna see a movie where there’s a book about a major plot device, but they find out it’s useless because they can’t read it
They sorta made a subversion of that trope in the Supernatural series. They had these "slates" written in angelic-something language that talked about either a weapon or a way to defeat the bad guy, but only a prophet of God could decipher it, and not like instant translation: the guy spent months reading ancient books and not sleeping, feeding on instant meals, just to get the slates with the very much needed info decoded.
It was kinda cool seeing a more realistic approach, instead of having the very convenient librarian/linguistics doctor/anthropologist who knows the language of the ancient book.
I love how movies in general have the ugly, nerdy outcast to be a beautiful actress with only a messy hair and glasses, and they pretend that this is enough to convince the audience that she would be a ignored outcast

Once I heard that there was a “Trump” character, I knew the film was going to be a hate piece on men. Little did I realize, it was worse.
The real antagonist was that wishing Stone.
Fun Fact: Patty Jenkins directed but did not write the first Wonder Woman. She directed and wrote Wonder Woman 1984. So Patty Jenkins is more of a director than a writer.
Moral of the story: Patty Jenkins should stick to directing, and forgo screenwriting entirely!

I even found the directing in this film bad tbh. When you're directing a blockbuster film like this a director should keep the time tight and keep the film consistent. I felt like this movie wanted to be so many different things and so many scenes went on for too long or could've been cut altogether. I do still need to see Monster because I've heard it's great, but her directing here didn't feel great.

How would Diana have the skills to compete in that competition if she wasn’t even fully trained here. Was that a dream? Because that takes the first place prize as the silliest scene in a movie 100% for me. She’s like 7 and she’s beating adult fully trained amazons that kicked her ass in training in movie 1. Wtf.

Well they don't do it because they don't know it, they do these because they think most of the audience is too stupid to understand that it's Egypt whiteout the pyramids and the desert. Even if its written in gold font in the middle of the screen.
I always hate when they make a character that is clearly attractive and friendly somehow seen as the unlikeable and ignored person. Even though her fashion is a bit irregular, it definitely fits the '80s. It's really hard to believe that she wouldn't be well liked and popular in that field of work she's in, especially since she's good at it and is super outgoing (she just seems shy because everyone shits on her for no reason). Like at least with Max from TASM 2 it was sort of understandable why he wasn't too popular.
On a different note, some illogical things in this film could be turn into a gold mine of character's struggle and development
- Diane fighting in tournament at 8 years old against grown adult -> by being the daughter and creation of Zeus there's a massive expectation and responsibilities on her shoulder even as a child. It pushed her to be quite over competitive
- Steve being illogically happy and quick adaptation to the modern world -> THAT'S NOT THE REAL STEVE. The magic stone while grants wishes, it slightly twist the wish (like Monkey Paw). The Steve that appears after Diane made the wish is the version Diane has in her mind, a Steve who is happy, strong and competent, smart and in love with her.
- Uh... The r*pey non-con thing to that poor guy -> Well she is the daughter of Zeus. And after that her childhood is spend with a bunch of warriors woman so I guess consent isn't something she was explicits taught or dive deep in. Even in the first movie we knew that while she was knowledgeable, she was also naive and her naiveness and desperateness in having the love of her life back can sadly lead to her disregard of others people consent. It a big flawed, yes, but it also refreshing in Hollywood to see the fault of being r*pey fall on the female perspective for once, like in real life. It also flesh out her character as a young god that slowly learn more about humanity, recognize her flaws and redeem herself.
Seriously, so many lost opportunities.
The whole thing with Barbra annoyed me. She just became evil for no reason.
No, there's a reason. Whenever a wish is granted, something is taken in return. Wonder Woman got Steve, but she lost her power. Stagg wished for Lord's company to become successful, and his tax fraud was magically found out. Barbara wished for power, and she lost her kindness.

I wonder if the stone magically and conveniently appeared in the collection so the main characters had something to do and is magically known by everyone for the sake of plot. Also how convenient Abilities just come and go whenever the plot needs it to as well as personalities shifting when needed.
She got her humanity taken away from her when she made her first wish. So it made sense why she became evil.

The writers broke their own rules at least a dozen times just to keep the plot going.

The plot was so dumb. When Max wished to be the stone, I was genuinely confused when he didn’t turn into the rock. And everybody in the world wished for selfish things? Not one person wished for world peace or an end to hunger or disease?

@@eatinganemone89 I’d say it was portrayed more as a grey area, it resolved an immediate high-level threat but it wasn’t a decision taken lightly and had consequences. It also proved that Wonder Woman was the member of the Trinity who was willing to cross lines that the others weren’t and accept responsibility afterwards.

I just think gal gadot is a black hole of charisma. It annoys me so much that shes now having such a big movie career. Blurgh.
Glad I’m not alone on this. Maybe it’s just a script issue since I haven’t seen much else with her beyond DCEU projects but in the entirety of her career as Wonder Woman, Gadot has just felt so extremely bland. Her stature & physique are definitely heroic but she brings no personality or character or charm to the role at all. To be a bit generous, I guess maybe she slightly fit the tone of the world war setting in the first movie but in films like Justice League & this she just feels so tepid.
Also, people would definitely make wishes that conflict with other people's wishes on a level that makes it impossible to grant them all, and people would make wishes which affect Wonder Woman
It's kinda sad that the teen titans go movie has a better plot than this movie.
Honestly....i loved the teen titans go movie. I was drunkenly watching it with my grandma for our movie night. But some of the jokes were actually good.

I really liked the intro, I didn't notice the flaws until you pointed it out, but it seemed to be setting up a fun, fast paced, slightly goofy all around good time where wonder woman helps people. The pacing decided to drive into *oncoming traffic* when Barbara got introduced.

The big about this movie was how a man was possessed against his will and then she had sex with that man's body that was possessed by the soul of the dead boy toy. Then he was unpossessed and left alone in an unknown environment once his use was up.
Honestly the entire "Dont take shortcuts" lesson is the dumbest thing ever. If shortcuts get you the same result with less work then its smart to take a shortcut.
Kinda what I was thinking, has the same line of thinking as the Kobayashi Maru from Star Trek. If the rules handicap you in a universe of rule breakers, you're always going to be at a disadvantage. Being clever and thinking around a problem instead of facing it head on can be more advantageous.
But there are shortcuts you shouldn't take.
yeah, I was kinda annoyed at the start of the film because of this. Her mother says she cheated during the race, but all she did was fall off her horse and go down a slope to get back on it. It should have shown her actively cheating by leading her horse off path of something.

I don’t know what’s crazier: the fact that you used the music from the space levels in Crash Bandicoot 2 for the Game Boy Advance in your end credits, or that I immediately recognized that music upon hearing it for the first time in twenty years.
The message of "humans are stupid and greedy and wish for violent selfish stuff unless convinced otherwise" is a pretty sharp contrast to the message of the last movie which was "humans make some mistakes, but in their hearts they love each other."

12:35 I don't think that she was PHYSICALLY seeing Steve. I think that once she believed that it was him, he transforms to Steve for the audience to see but in reality, everyone else in the movie only sees the guy that Steve's soul is in or whatever, if that makes sense.

He never actually stooped to any level of real evil. I'm not defending the movie as a whole. Ha, fuck that. Although, a wish like that would have been way out of character.
Same of the flaws of the movie I can pick:
1) Egypt, in 1984, was a republic allied with USSR. There were no more noblemen around there since 1952, when its king was put out off his throne. It was also a dictatorship under military rule, so a militia would be disbanded by the Egyptian army before Wonder Woman would ever think about disposing it
2) How could be Steve amazed by the subway, if, when he died, it was already invented 50 years before?
3) In 1983 there was an event similar to that one depicted on the movie, the Crisis of the European Missiles. However, the Soviet reaction was just to deploy more missiles and put them near the borders of the countries with the new American missiles, like Italy. That was it. Launching them and destroying so all the human civilization would be an idiot solution so manifest that even in the awful script used for this movie they would have thought about it and avoided, like the common sense would have suggested

1) They were trying to shout out a fictional country from the comics, Bialya, Kahndaq would've been cooler but...

In no way do I think that the movie is bad because of the female lead. I just think that it’s kind of crappy that they’re trying to hide this sort of invincible character behind the fact that she’s a strong woman. Yeah, I think there need to be more movies with strong female leads, but I honestly prefer quality over quantity.

I like how the WWI pilot just immediately figured out how to fly a fighter jet, which primarily uses a computer (something a dude from the early 1900s wouldn’t have a clue on how to even turn on btw).

Guy comes from a time when planes were barely even starting to take off and be used in combat and can somehow operate a modern jet fighter that takes literally months of practice to fly effectively. Going from Bolt Action rifles and Cavalry with sabres, shocked at the modern world but learns how to fly a JET IN TWO FUCKING SECONDS IT'S SO DUMB I CAN'T GET OVER IT
He could have just wished for $100,000,000,000 in his bank account. Watching a film with such bad effects makes me think about how cringy & embarrassing being an actor can be, pretending to fling a whip around or that youre running super fast.
