    Fiers did not intentionally hit either one of them, most especially Stanton. You can tell he was too shook up by it, he was having a hard time even looking at him lying there. He probably should have been replaced before Johnson came up. He did not have control of his pitches most of the night. I do not think he actually hit Johnson. I think it hit off the knob of the bat, not his hand, certainly not his right hand. His left hand was towards the incoming ball, his right was still tucked towards him. I think he played that up a little hoping to get Fiers ejected. Instead McGehee goes balistic and gets himself and his coach ejected and both benches get warned.

    Very unprofessional of Casey McGehee to act like that. I do understand the situation and why he would be pissed off at that, but it's not sportsmanlike to go off like that, especially against your former team. I understood why Brewers fans booed him when he did that. As a Brewers fan (and a Twins fan as well), I never really liked McGehee that much (personality wise, great player though), and that contributed to my vote for Justin Morneau in the 2014 MLB All Star Game NL Final Spot vote instead of Casey McGehee.

      It was because, on two straight pitches that HIT the batter[s], the umpire said they attempted to swing at the ball, which is utter BS in and of itself. First one hit Giancarlo Stanton squarely in the jaw and took him out for the rest of the season [you're not trying to swing at a pitch coming at your face], and the next one hit Johnson, who was then pinch hitting for Stanton, in the hand, near his head. Again, you're not trying to swing in that case.
      McGehee was absolutely justified in his anger, especially considering the team had just lost their best player for the remainder of the season with a gruesome injury.

First thing's first, Fiars did not intentionally hit Johnson or Stanton, you clearly see in his facial expressions that it actually made him very emotional when Stanton got hit. Second, Casey mcGehee's reaction was very uncalled for, it was just feeding the flames to an already bad situation. Last, to the Marlin's announcers, I'm sorry but Reed Johnson did indeed swing. The anger is understandable, but his bat did break the plain. The Marlins have a right to be angry about being pegged up and in twice, but they blew it out of proportion.

    OK, I don't play baseball and I'm not familiar with all the rules. However, playing the pitch in slow motion certain aspects are clear:
    1. Just before the release by the pitcher the batter's body is towards 1st base, his hands are behind his head, the bat is angled up and back over his shoulder, and he has a light squat to his stance.
    2. When the ball arrives at the batter's box the pitch is over the plate. The ball is level with the bottom of the 'Cellular' sign behind them. The batter is now body towards the pitcher with both legs stretched out, one forward and one backward; thus he's now squatting lower. The bat has dropped down to be angled down across the plate. Batter's hand are over the edge of the plate and swinging forward with the bat in his hands.
    3. Ball hits his hand on the bat over the plate and just below level with his shoulders. Both hands and bat continue to swing forward and he continues to pivot to his left while dropping his body lower.
    Now, it looks like, to me, the ball was in the strike zone and the batter brought the bat through about 100 degrees of arc while changing it's angle of attack by about 30 degrees before the ball hits his hand holding the bat. Does this constitute a swing at the ball or not, or does it constitute a ball in the strike zone - either is a strike call, is it not? I don't know which it should be called, but it was over the edge of the plate and in the strike zone.
    The commentators clearly don't like the play, that's for sure.

    Ok, so here is what happened. While dodging the ball, the bat crossed the plate which is a swing. It is ruled just like if you were to dodge the ball and leave the bat up there and the ball goes off the bat, but in that case it would be considered a foul ball. In this instance, because the hands are not part of the bat, the swing counts as a strike. It is not where the bat was when he was hit, but where the bat ends its motion.
    The announcers are Marlins announcers, but it is very clear that they have no clue what the rule is and really shouldn't make themselves look any more stupid by dragging it out.

      @@camstar24802 neither one of those balls were going 98. The one that hit Stanton and Reed were 88 to 90. Both could have and should have gotten out of the way. It appears Stanton didnt see the ball until it was too late and he was crowding the plate . Reed was crowding the plate also and had plenty of time to get out of the way if he wanted to.

      Wyatt Braam Neither was intentional. After Stanton was hit, it was quite obvious that he was shaken up about it. He should have been taken out of the game. But the manager left him in, and his wildness continued and he hit Johnson. It happened. Marlins overreacted. Announcers are pathetic.

      ***** LOL thugs? Tell me again, how many punches were throw by Marlins players? Did you even know right before this, Giancarlo Stanton had the same pitch, a fastball, thrown at his head, and his face shattered? Giancarlo was face first on the floor, bleeding from his shattered face, he couldnt even move he was in so much pain, and out of the season. How would you react if you just saw a buddy get hit with a fastball in the face and his face was shattered to pieces and then another buddy right after almost gets hit in the face by the same exact pitch and same pitcher? Maybe you would let 2 of your buddies get hit in the face by baseballs, and one of your buddies have to get facial surgery, not us, we stick up for our players.

      It is one thing to be upset that a teammate is hurt. It is another to try to start a fight over an obvious non-intentional pitched ball. If they wanted to be pissed at someone, be pissed at Milwaukee's manager for not taking Fiers out of the game. Fiers was wild and rattled after hitting Stanton. He had no business throwing another pitch after that one.

      Robert C by rule if the batter is hit and swings the correct call would be a strike. So the call is not ridiculous. If you don't believe me fine, but look it up for yourself.

    Firers was raging for no reason. He had no rights to be mad. You hit 2 players. Sent 1 to the hospital, and a pitch up and in and was called a strike. Fiers is a "Class A" player alright.

    • @ii-pc9ej
      @ii-pc9ej Před 9 lety +18

      Fiers* raged because he thought Casey McGehee was shouting at him calling him buulshit. Than Garrett Jones and the Marlins bench came out and raged over 9000. I understand why they would be mad but at the same time very classless

      mikeshogunlee For the Marlins? Have some class, which McGehee lacked. You don't go at the umpire like that. Ever. The Marlins showed no class in this. Fiers was angry because the Marlins were yelling at him, as SlimShady9000Mac pointed out.

    • @mikeshogunlee
      @mikeshogunlee Před 9 lety +2

      So...
      To get this all straight when a pitcher, who has already sent one of your guys to the hospital, hits *another* one of your teammates, you are to calmly speak from your respective bench, in an elevated but non threatening tone,
      "Why excuse me good sir could you please refrain from hitting our batters? We understand you may be having an off night, but if your scrupulous behavior continues we will be forced to file a complaint with management, Please and thank you."
      Look I am not saying you should let teams run out on to the field with bats and shanks looking to kill someone, but when a highly emotional series of events like the one that transpired in this games happens, people should be cut some slack.
      And I don't care if he swung at it or not, when a player gets hit he should be given the damn base!
