  • I cover the basics of installing gas piping from design layout to pipe threading to installing flexible gas lines. The process would be the same for both natural gas and propane. I am no pipe fitter, I'm just an average guy learning as I go. Please like and subscribe and follow along with out house build.

    Put the dope first then tape then dope and guarantee no leak And make sure you put dope on inside fitting also Did on my House project and no leak Thanks for the video

      it is all depend how you put your dope on. There is no company make a product that only have to work with another product. Handymen and plumbers whom get a call back the leak that they left and thought of because of a product and then come up with different technique then spread them around. I'm not pointing out because this guy did a bad job, I point out just for other to learn. From the look of where his threading machine part. The end thread looks too short. 2nd possibility to be leak and majority of most people out there make mistake I have seen. Yes pipe dope supposed to be faster than tape, but if you paint your thread with dope that is not going to plug up the voids. When I said people paint, I meant people just dip the brush into dope and brush around the pipe thread not allowing all the thread fills with dope. You suppose to brush angle at the threads not along.
      If you think dope and tape combine is a must, then you should be able to go back the companies those sell them and sue them.
      And putting dope on the inside fitting would just clog your gas pipe later on the road. I'm sure your gas pipe might has restriction before a leak.

    how many appliances did you feed off the 1 1/2" pipe? that seems oversized big time for a residential home

    • @1projectaway119
      @1projectaway119  Před 2 lety +2

      I list off all the appliance starting at 14:30. It seems silly but when you run the numbers they want it calculated at full load for each appliance at the same time. I agree it’s oversized but that’s what my calculation called for.

    Ugg... I hate anything to do with pressurized gas because you gotta get it so freaking air-tight. We had our hvac compressor go bad on us, and while I was still learning about that, the gas guys got new people who wanted us to replace our propane line leading from the tank to the house as well. Luckily we had a lot of the stuff needed for fixing such a problems, so for the hvac, I brazed in a new compressor I bought on e-bay, but I had a leak, thought I fixed it, but apparently still have a small pinhole leak. Bought some refrigerant leak detector the other day online, and waiting for that to come in. As for the propane line, I cut and threaded some 1" black iron pipe by hand with a crappy ratcheting cutter from Harbor Freight that did cut the threads, though it also broke a few threads off -_- Didn't have any cutting oil, nor was there any mention I needed it, but I did put some air gun lube on it and that seemed to help lol. Also the ratchet broke on the first use, so I just had to turn the cutter with a pipe wrench with a cheater bar. Put the pipe together with a good lp gas rated pipe dope (looks like the same stuff you used), and buried the outdoor portion 14" down. Pipe does seem to be sealed up though despite some missing threads; The gas guys came out, pressure tested, replaced the regulator, and fingers freaking crossed, cuz I don't want to dig that fucking line up if it's leaking. Also wrapped the underground portion in pvc ug pipe tape very carefully.

    The gas line that was put in already, did the natural gas company shut that off prior to you working on it or was that something you had to do?

    • @1projectaway119
      @1projectaway119  Před 2 lety +1

      The gas company installed the meter base, but they won’t install the actual gas meter until the gas lines are inspected by county building inspectors.

    Was the gas leak at the end part of the gas company piping/plumbing? Or was it a bad gauge?

    • @1projectaway119
      @1projectaway119  Před 8 měsíci

      It turned out to be a bad gauge that kept loosing pressure!
