I wish US and Emma all the best, but I doubt she will change her press conference style. See the video of her at the English press writers' award.
I was laughed at in comments about how she uses starters and finishers, by someone from US who said that substitutes were nothing new.
Emma is usually so confident of winning, that the starting eleven may not be the best eleven players, just a tactical formation to start the match. After tiring a particular opponent or set of players, she might totally reorganise and finish the match differently, using substitutions. She is very unlikely to explain any of that to anyone outside the team. Also the concept of starting eleven should be thrown in the trash, as you Americans say. Players need to be grateful to be in the squad and play how they are told, minute to minute, trusting the design for the whole game, that they may only play some of. They may not be useful at all in the next game plan, but must trust it is designed to get a win for their team.

If that is the case I might have to get comfortable with Sophia Smith finishing because she is definitely a player you want to end games. She’s clutch at scoring goals and if we have to go to pks you want her available… I do hope she starts but… I could definitely see Emma liking her in that finishing role

if you can't dribble a ball then Emma Hayes won't have you on the team too long.

*club and country are very different. But ppl have pointed out that Vlatko was too nice. Emma I’d aggressive. That’s what they need.*

Shouldn't, at least, the level of one of the friendlies be against a team closer in quality to those that they are going to face in the Olympics past the group phase?

S Korea, blah, I wish we could have played England since they aren't in the Olympics...

Don’t want to have too many injuries going into the tournament. It’s a tune up. Not a full out

Very true like that would have been a good test better than playing South Korea Costa Rica Mexico even though we lost to Mexico I think USA on the second try would redeem themselves but it is what it is and we just got to play what's in front of us but at least we're not playing Uzbekistan

Unfortunately, all European teams are booked due to the Euro qualifiers. But I agree 100% with you. These friendlies look way too friendly

    The US needs better tactics

This will be a challenge for Hayes. I think there are big personalities that need to be tamed yet she needs to raise the quality of play. The US is not what it used to be since women soccer around the world has advanced so much (yay!), this new generation of players need to demonstrate their WORLD class, not just club class as the NWSL is one of a few elite women’s leagues (maybe not the top one too). The US has always struggled with truly technical play-the players need to follow Hayes’ lead. The question is will they?

At Chelsea she's got every Best players for years, but still didn't win the top trophy!US midfield of 2015/19 is not there anymore (Quality)!Maybe the young ones will improve for the coming World Cup!God Help!

@sandrobinari. As Sam Mewis pointed out this week, she was a World Cup winner, then had to face Barcelona and it was a shock in a three nil loss.

Jesus! How many times does it need to be pointed out that Hayes is overrated. The English FA never considered her as a coaching possibility for the lionesses! Also as coach to Chelsea, she consistently failed at European level.

@@DerekLangdon Had the French sides been split up this year and Chelsea and Barcelona played that first game in Spain as the final, it might have been different. I watched Barcelona since the English players arrived and they are just better than anything else. You cannot do much more as a coach than beat the best side, but I do think the booked player should have been substituted straight away in the second leg of the semi, before it got to a sending off. I reckon she will surprise you. This job seems spot on for her to me, having spent time in US.

The speedy accuracy the Spanish are passing moving the ball in between themselves makes the difference! Can't keep up with them,at times it's impossible! And we All know The End!!!

Sam Mewis may have left out 1) Man City lost on aggregate but they handed Barcelona their only loss of the season and 2) Coach Taylor would not play Rose Lavelle until that second game that Man City won. Maybe Hayes is a better coach than Taylor.
