How to repair a dim or intermittent display on a 2010 Chevy Traverse instrument cluster.
May also be the same PCB as the GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave and Saturn Outlook. The problem is four 6.2k resistors with fractured solder joints located under the VFD. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
"Make it look like it's never been worked on." I wish more people would do that.
Nice job on the repairs. Most clusters with fracture are the weakest point when they need repair. Great job, Jeff!!
I got the exactly same problem with my 2008 Buick enclave, nobody here has the courage to solve this matter , so thanks a lot your video is helpfull clear and top professional you deserve a 5 🌟 I am talking about the message center just like yours , sudenly IT dim to nothing . 😫
Yet another Expert repair! Thanks Jeff!
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to diagnose and share. This worked perfectly on my 2010 traverse which had intermittent display.
I just wanted to say thank you for a great Video! I was able to repair my 2014 Traverse display by re-soldering the resistors just as you did.
Good job on the repair!
I love when the factory sets the solder standards real low so your reflows end up looking phenominal lol
Very nice! makes it look easy
Great video! I had an intermittent issue with the display going blank while driving, and then it progressed to display not working at all. Hoping this might be my issue, and will give it a shot!
More than likely this is your issue.
You are the best!!!!👍
excellent video, thank you
People can tell because it is better than factory soldering.
So I've actually got a question unrelated to the video I've been thinking about. When I worked on my cluster I noticed there were 2 (or more) LED bulbs in there, towards the top around where the turn signals are. Did GM ever use some LED bulbs stock for the 3 gauge ones in 02? I imagine that would have had to meant someone else worked on it once, but it seemed too... stock and clean to me, idk. They definitely did not look like incandescent bulbs. To me they seemed positioned to be for the airbag and CEL or something, but I could have be wrong.
In the 02 full size GM did use traditional 5mm through hole LEDs for warning indicators. But not for backlighting.
@@jeffescortlx Glad I wasnt crazy then lol, thanks for always replying dude I appreciate it!
Excellent video bro I'm from Mexican ,I'm mecanic and I'm have the same problem with the car
What color wires are you using to power up the cluster? I am going to get a cluster and harness pigtail from the scrap yard tomorrow.
My plug is repinned from a different model so the colors won't be original.
I have this same problem with my 08 enclave. Who do I look for in the yellow pages that can do this kind of work?
I do this kind of work.
Where can I get the motors for the speedo gauge and dash lights?
The traverse doesn't have defective stepper motors like the other GM's.
The lights are not user serviceable, they are surface mount.
how are you powering it up? I assume it is not 12 volts dc rather a device mimicking data info or is it being pulled from a vehicle's communication line. I'd like to repair mine
This cluster is one that doesn't require the bus to turn on.
What's the average turn around if you do it? I have a 2014 Traverse with the odometer not showing up until dark. All other functions are fine.
For quotes I can be reached at 1mr.repairman@gmail.com thank you.
That is awesome. Your Work is so precise. My 2012 Chevrolet Travers Odometer display is doing the same(dim or off intermittent) Where are you located? How much to fix?
Email sent!
Wouldn't it cause problems later because pins "remember" they have been bent 90 degrees? It leaves the display and pins under tension, which is never good with solder joints.
This PCB is double sided, solder feed trough from back to front so it's pretty resilient. The VFD pins on this unit is pretty flexible and forgiving. If by some chance it does cause a issue down the road I would be happy to warranty it.
My 2011 Traverse has the same issue.. info center comes and goes for a while now it has not come back on. I'll be sending you a message about doing the repair.
I'd pay to have you do this, only my wife's car would be without a gauge cluster for some time. I could get one from a salvage yard through LKQ, but then there's no telling whether that one would have the same problem. And I don't want to pay GM high prices for brand new. Decisions...
The used junkyard cluster might have the same issue, but it will also show a random odometer value.
Hi Jeff! Great video! I have an issue with my traverse 2014, during the day the display is not bright! As a matter of fact I can’t read the info… do you think this is related to the board welding or an external part I.e. relay?
Appreciate your help
Thanks
Does your cluster look just like the one in this video?
@@jeffescortlx same cluster!
@@juliofigueroa1742 you probably have the exact same problem as this one.
@@jeffescortlx thanks for your quick response! I will try to re-weld the resistor… thanks again!
@@juliofigueroa1742 Did you end up doing this fix. Did it work. I'm trying to decide if I should do this on my 2013 Traverse.
Great job , I have similar problem with my Chevy traverse
On the day time I have to cover the eye ( sender on the dish board to make everything dem and then take the cover off to be able to bring the window where it shows the mileage and all the P D N L shows again
But at night when it’s dark out
Everything works perfectly
Can you tell me why ??
If it's only the instrument cluster display that has issues, then it is probably an internal cluster problem. If other items on the dashboard are dimming incorrectly then it's more likely a problem with the interior dimmer control.
I have a 2016 traverse can you let me know what you charge for repair?
I can be reached for quotes at 1mr.repairman@gmail.com
Thanks!
What temp did you run your soldering iron?
Usually around 350 give or take a few depending on what I'm soldering.
Thanks for sharing! Did the customer confirm the fix is good?
Yes this is a common fix for a common problem.
What should the cost for this repair be when the odometer display is dimming out to no display?
It would depend on who does the repair. If you bring it to the dealership it could be around $1000. If you remove the cluster yourself and ship it off it will be under $200. If you repair it yourself it won't cost anything but time, tools and supplies.
Mine is doing the same...how much would u charge to fix it?
For quotes that I can be reached by email. My email address is in the description of this video. Thank you.
It's all lies, it does flicker but our persistance of vision fixes it lol 😀
Well that didn't take too long to fix, an easy one for a change.
Blame the cat for the hard ones.
Well yes technically you're right!
Is this common for this vehicle?
Yes
I'm having this issue on my 2010 traverse
Would like to send you my driver information center 2010 Chevy traverse ls
Ok
IM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE ON MY 2014 TRAVERSE
I watch another guy on CZcams that can make the display a white color vs the greenish blue color do you know how they do this with out using a translucent tape on the display? He will not answer me I’m sure because he doesn’t want people to know how to do what he does.
The only way to do it is with the color transparency film. Vacuum fluorescent displays can only display in green.
@@jeffescortlx I have used pink and red I either get a pinkish whit or a yellow ish white this guy that I watch it’s like pure white and ideas what color?
@@gagecampbell8106 typically I've seen red used to make the green display white. Can you drop a link to this video you're talking about?
"Make it look like factory..."
Then it wouldn't work again🙄
I cant find your email please help
