ALL 6.7 CUMMINS OWNERS NEED TO WATCH THIS..... Intake silencer removal.

  • Trying to get the most out of the 6.7 Cummins engine is what all owners want. Sometime we aren't even looking for power but a little more noise. Well, the intake silencer restricts that noise and comes with its own list of problems. However, my 2021 3500 with the High Output 6.7 had something totally different going on...

    I removed this a few weeks ago, notice the boost hits a little harder and the turbo sounds better. I’m tuned and deleted so lag wasn’t a big issue

      Yeah little more noise for sure. Un tuned I couldn't tell any other difference.

    The plastic insert piece looks totally different from my 14. Great video

      Thanks for the compliment! I've learned a lot about the different variations of the intake silencers on these trucks since the making of this video. Seems the engineering team couldn't make up their minds🤣

    2019 that baffle changed from foam rapped to the new style

      Good to know. I figured it had something to do with high output and standard. Thanks for the info!

    Removed the entire obstruction from my intake on my 2017 @ the 10K mile mark!
    Towing our 12Klb 5th wheel every summer (All Summer) - Sorry to disappoint most owners - but my fuel mileage never dropped nor have I had any issues nor will in the future.
    Edit: I did not remove it for any type of performance gains or to hear more turbo whistle I could care less about either.
    I just woke up one morning thinking if that foam ever starts to deteriorate and come apart it’s going right in my turbo.

      @hpbuilds  Před 2 lety +2

      Yeah so glad I didn't find one in there. Definitely wasted some time but glad I looked!

    Just took mine off. Noticed my turbo got slightly louder no complaints here. No difference in power just more noises haha

    • @hpbuilds
      @hpbuilds  Před rokem +1

      Yep pretty much the exact reaction I've heard for years with these trucks. Thanks for watching!

  • @cumminscaddy
    @cumminscaddy Před 2 lety +2

    If you remove it you do get more turbo whistle etc. Not like a second gen with a compound setup but you do get more. I was told by a Cummins mechanic from ram how to do this and that it doesn’t void anything or hurt anything in anyway (since some guys think this will destroy the turbo it does NOT). Now another piece of info is a k and n will help as well and considerably better sounding with the baffle out. However if you have turbo issues and take it to dealer they will void your warranty if you have a k an n on it because it allows more debris in they found and will not honor warranty in that case. Now if you have issues just put the paper style filter back in before taking to the dealer and that problems solved 😉😂

    • @hpbuilds
      @hpbuilds  Před 2 lety +3

      Leaving this in helps channel the air flow to the turbo. The foam filter around the plastic piece is what kills the turbo noise.

    My 21 tradesman had it but I put an s&b intake on it at 30 miles so I have no idea if it did anything or not lol

    • @hpbuilds
      @hpbuilds  Před 2 lety +2

      Interesting. Did you have the high output engine? I have found some have it and some do not. Not sure where the cutoff is. Thanks for watching.

    • @Coaltrain87.
      @Coaltrain87. Před 2 lety +1

      @@hpbuilds no the tradesman is not the ho. The intake made a huge difference on lag and sound the exhaust brake sounds like a Jake and the turbo screams

    • @hpbuilds
      @hpbuilds  Před 2 lety +2

      That might be the difference. Mine is the high output. Fun trucks and all the power on both model engines!

  • @TheMisplacedTEXAN
    @TheMisplacedTEXAN Před 2 lety +2

    The 19 and up have a new design that eliminated the foam and evenly flows the air in the turbo due to the 90 degree bend I don’t recommend removing it if you want more turbo sound get a bank’s performance ram air intake

      @hpbuilds  Před 2 lety +3

    My 2020 did not have one either. I was thinking the previous owner took it out but it still had the piece of junk clamp

    • @hpbuilds
      @hpbuilds  Před 2 lety +2

      That clamp was definitely junk. If the previous owner was able to reuse it id say he is talented 🤣 Thanks for watching!

    • @hpbuilds
      @hpbuilds  Před 3 lety +4

      Well I thought this would be the trick. I did a k&n filter and that helped a bit. A good delete never hurt anyone but the warranty 🤣

  • @dmead8425
    @dmead8425 Před 2 lety +3

  • @cwilks5592
    @cwilks5592 Před rokem +1

    There is a video out there with actual numbers that show you lose boost and increase EGTs by taking out the baffle. Lose the foam but don't get caught by the "mechanics" out there saying it's a restriction. If you want a clear path grab an S&B.

    • @hpbuilds

    There are other videos on this topic that I would highly recommend watching before removing this part! You will HURT your performance and fuel mileage by removing it. Ram is smarter than you and they put that part there for a reason.

    • @hpbuilds
      @hpbuilds  Před 2 lety +3

      Yep. I left mine and only wanted to remove the foam. Luckly my truck doesn't have the foam piece

    • @jlbush8249
      @jlbush8249 Před 2 lety +1

      Some argue it's only there to quiet the turbo and nothing else as old folks who tow their campers don't want to hear it.

    • @jlbush8249
      @jlbush8249 Před rokem +1

      I removed the baffle on my 2021 Ram Cummins. The only thing I noticed was the turbo is a little loader, but since the silencer ring is now riveted in, and I didn't feel like removing the turbo and drilling it out, I left the ring in for now. There was no noticeable difference in performance from removing the baffle.

    • @skatir9
      @skatir9 Před 8 měsíci

      The whole point of it is to keep air from unevenly loading the turbine wheel and wearing out the turbo quicker. It splits the airflow right in front of the wheel for balanced airflow, due to the bend in the intake without the baffle
