- Ever since I first used the EOD cutters from Leatherman, I have wanted to put them in the Surge. Turns out, it is a really easy mod to do. If you have a dremel and a vise you can do this really easily.

I have added the EOD cutters to my arc and they cut so much better. All soft wire cuts so far, but such an improvement.
This is by far the best/ easiest upgrade you can do for your leatherman. I just did this to my p4 and immediately ordered 3 more sets for my wave, surge and a back up. Tbh I was able to profile mine simply using the diamond file on my wave.
Well worth the time to get these to fit! I'm gonna copy and past to my Surge! Thanks!
You're very welcome, this one turned out really well. Makes the Surge so much more useful in my opinion.
I ordered 2 pairs from Amazon Italia, the only place in Europe that sell those. I replaced 1 pair on a black Surge with the new bad cutters. Ill replace the good cutters on the older Silver&Black too. It toke me about 2 minutes for each blade to modify.
Extraordinario. No entiendo porque Leatherman no lanza esos cortadores también para las demás herramientas. Excelente video, gracias
I don't cut an awful lot of electrical wire on the regular ......but damn those eod cutters make such a nice cut! The cut seems even nicer now I see it in a standard leatherman plier head lol. Nicely fitted ben
Little bit of input on the file/depth gauge tool
If you could combine a package opener and scraper you'd have a really versatile in the blade exchanger
I know you have your chisel tool and that is a chisel really so I think putting a real steep grind on the tip of a slightly shortened depth gauge while also having the package opener on there and squaring off the spine of the tool nice and sharp it is great for scraping on steel and cutting tape when opening boxes....a bit like a light duty version of the mini prybar you bought recently (name is escaping me)
Those cutters made a world of difference in the Surge, so glad I modified them to fit. I like your idea about making it similar to the Rogan Foreman. Let me think on it for a bit, see what I can come up with.
that's awesome! I forget about that second cutter down below.
Yeah, works pretty well. I don't know how it would fare against harder wire though, like stainless TIG rod.
TX Tool Crib well, some time ago me and my buddy were laying down watering line and we needed to cut one of those C-shaped wires that go into the ground. I had my Charge+ TTi and he had his Surge. He told me to use the lower cutter and I didn’t believe him, given that the Charge doesn’t have it but he was able to cut it no problem. That’s the day I found out the Surge had it. That sucker was hard too. My Charge was not able to cut it.
I’m glad that capability is on the Surge, because I really like those longer cutters. Hands down one of the best mods I could have done I think.
I do like the performance Im getting out of my surge,I like how you can modify your surge, been watching your channel on multitools for a while now,I like the work an how go in detail of the tool.
Thank you, I appreciate the compliment. I am a firm believer in the Surge, it has served me well for almost two decades now.
@@txtoolcrib ,no prob your welcome, well I look forward for many years with my new surge,I remember when I first came across Leatherman when they were first getting started,I had a old original Leatherman, use to hurt my hands when squeezing too hard an if you had to cut wire or coat hangers.
@@txtoolcrib ,I mean don't get me wrong,I like Gerber too an Dog, Leatherman I believe has better multitools.
Wow, Great Upgrade! Also agree with no hard wire/nail cutter.
I really like this one. Thank you for watching.
FYI, the EOD cutters now come with the rounded corner.
If we have to rephrase Clausewitz, who says that the greatest enemy of a good plan is the dream of a perfect plan and we bring it to the multitool field, it is impossible not to note that Ben, in his dream for a perfect tool is where we would like to be tomorrow. In addition to fully agreeing with the selection of this tools he includes in the current videos, I also fully support the urgent need to add a chisel to Leatherman's instruments, much like Victorinox. By the way, I now came up with the idea of multitool, in which, at the request of the client, the various instruments can be assembled according to the individual preference of the client. Leatherman, do you follow my thought? ;)
I am a big supporter of the channel and I can only recommend it to everyone. Great review - again!
Thank you on so many levels sir. Appreciate your support.
Of all the mods, I think one will find me ordering a couple of new drums for my Dremel and a set of EOD cutters for my Rebar. WAY more useful for what I do than the cutters currently on there.
I still say there needs to be an Electronic/Electrician themed tool and it can be based on something that already exists like the ST 300 or even the Rebar would be fine for me, although I'm sure way more would prefer something based on a Wave or Surge.
I couldn't agree more, they definitely need a more electrical based tool.
Interesting, I didn't know there was a difference between the two cutters. I know the cutters on the leatherman surge are about 67HRC, so it will basically cut through anything without getting damaged. I've cut through hardened bolt with my surge and the cutters weren't damaged, but I wouldn't recommend it because I damaged the joint of my surge, so they don't open up anymore without forcing it open.
Is that the hardness rating for the newest cutters they have come out with? The EOD cutters are a big improvement if you are doing a lot of soft wire cutting.
@@txtoolcrib I looked it up about 2 years ago, and that was only for the surge. I haven't looked into the eod wire cutters, so I'm not sure. I know the gerber carbide cutters are 70HRC, but they seems to crack easily.
As far as the hardness for the newest cutters I'm not sure.
Those EOD cutters make shiney cuts.
Yeah, I’m really liking this mod a lot.
Would love to see how your new surge wire cutters perform against the best SOG wire cutters!
Great suggestion! I think we'll put them head to head in a video to see which one fares better.
That worked out perfect. Do you think they would fit the wave/charge tools too or are they smaller?
I'm pretty sure they would fit the Wave+/Charge+ models as well. The only issue is the space. When they added the replaceable cutters to those models, it took away from the regular pliers space. By adding these cutters, you would be robbing even more space. To make them viable, a 45 degree angle would need to be cut on the front end I believe.
So what makes those blades different from the stock ones?
I see you are into fancy pencils too with the Rotring [red ring].
I use it because in my line of work I need a quality 2mm pencil. I like the action on it better than other options.
Good morning. Always excellent videos and excellent explanations. I copied the idea of the large wire stripper on the big screwdriver. While to have a scraper / chisel, I copied the idea of the free p4, working on the tip of the serrated blade. All done with freehand dremel, because I live in a camper. The result was surprisingly accurate. Is there an email or website to send photos to? Thanks
Sure, you can send them to txtoolcrib@gmail.com
Can it cut a chainlink fence?
Do you know a tool with standard bit adapter that can be installed in the surge without modification or a simple one?, I love my surge but hate the proprietary adapter or need to use the extension every time.
What Dremel bit would you recommend for this?
With the standard cutters, could you cut nails?
Does the eod blades still fit? I am looking at the lestherman homepage now. And it looks like the eod blades are different now. With more curve then the original surge blades
I’m not sure, but they do look different. They may drop right in now.
Hello, just got done seeing your video,I've just recently a couple weeks ago got my surge, now do they come with 154 cm cutters or do you have to order them
They stopped making the cutters out of 154CM. I have heard they are 440C now, but I’m not certain if that is accurate. It was one of those cost saving measures they did without any announcement.
Great video.thanks..Man it is impossible to find them to buy..amazon,don't have them e-bay don't have it.. anyone some help where to find them.?!I need to ship to Europe..Thanks in advance for help...
I was actually thinking about just taking the cutters on my wave+ and grinding the edge a bit to make them cut better. Think that'd be viable as well?
I think that would be viable if you were able to hold a consistent angle on those cutters. Because they were so small, I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to control that angle very well. That is why I ultimately decided just to modify the EOD cutters.
Do you have a forum or a discord? I'll post the results there if you do!
I don’t unfortunately.
Can they cut hard wire ?
No, not without messing up the cutters.
Why Leatherman don't install these kind of cutters as you did? Any ideas?
I have no idea sir. They should at least offer the option for those that need them.
I really wish Leatherman would just do away with these bypass cutters, or at the very least offer a set of drop in flush type blades that meet like standard diagonal cutter blades.
First please accept my apology. I’m not familiar with what the difference is between the cutters that came with the Surge and with these. PLease help me better understand. The mod seem like a no brained and if I can get your reason identified I will also make this change. Thank you, again sorry I didn’t know what the difference was. Thank you..
