    I love the Surge. Been carrying it for over a decade.
    I have the black one, which makes the ruler markings on the inside nearly impossible to use. So, after *years* bemoaning this problem, I finally realized I could fix it. So I painted over them with white paint, wiped off the excess, and was left with incredibly easy to read, white ruler markings on a black frame. For a bare metal one, I'd probably use coloured paint, like blue, red, or green. Hope this helps somebody.

    I was an aircraft maintenance engineer for 15 years and Leatherman multitools were like side chicks. Real life savers in emergencies. They were very handy, and saves you running to and fro from the tool kit.

    Best place I have found for the eyeglass screw driver: On the handle that has the serrated blade and scissors, press the lever that allows you to close the internal tools. Slide the eyeglass screw driver under the raised lever as close as you can to the side with the serrated blade, away from side with the scissors about half its length of the bit. Release the lever and the bit will be held very tightly.

    I use the lanyard holder to mount a key ring to and then a carabiner clip on that to let it hang from my belt loop going into my back pocket.

    You can take the small eyeglass screwdriver and pinch it between the scales to have a handle. Take the closed tool and at the pivoting point of the pliers you have these 2 flat surfaces on the inside. Open up the handles slightly, drop in the micro screwdriver and pinch the handles together

    I carry my Surge all day everyday( ecxept when flying/swimming) horizontal at 11 o'clock. I forget my cell before I forget it. If you wear a good belt at proper height you get used to it in no time. I don't understand guys who say it's too heavy.I carry my Swisschamp as well, vertically at 3 o'clock in an xlt pouch. I fill the extra space with a klauris titanium flashlight.
    Lol, EDC nerd! With those two I am ready for anything. Everyone teases until they need a tool! I honestly feel naked without both. I recently was gifted a mini champ alox, I carry it on my keychain. I only use it to clean my nails and the orange peeler to open clam shell packaging. I could do without it, but it's always on my keychain and I forget it's there.
    Awesome vid! Adding a lanyard to my Surge ASAP!! Thanks!
    Edit, when I go on vacation, I only pack the swisschamp. But it takes a bit to get used to it.

    You can also lift the saw blade & slide a quarter in the slot to push out the lanyard ring. Also, you can pop off the knife clip and use end of the knife clip to push out lanyard ring. you can use clip (either end) to tuck in or retrieve small matches, small ferro rod, waxed twine, etc... that can be hidden in the cavities of the knife. Just use shrink wrap first to first wrap items to protect them from moisture or getting wet.

Just wanted to say that you were correct in what you thought about those tabs on the inside of the handles are used to close the needle nose pliers because if they were able to open, while handle was closed or one side, opened more than the other side window is closed it would make it more difficult to open

      happy new year. after few months im not very happy with it. scissors cut only at the tip section, not from the beggining, from the joint and the serrated blade is gone. i barely used the scissors.. the pliers are good, the screwdrivers helped me alot at work and at home too. that section in the bottle opener who supposed to remove plastic from electrical wires does not work also. i changed an outlet few weeks ago and i had to use a blade. ill keep the surge for the pliers and screwdrivers. and secretly pray to lose it so ill buy something else. maybe a skeleton cx.

    I received my warranty replacement Surge this morning from Whitby & Co. (Leatherman truly are fantastic) and, after seeing this video a weeek or so ago and locating the lanyard loop on my old 2010 model, the first thing I did was go to pop it out again on my new 2017 Surge, only to find it is no longer there. I can see where it _should_ be but there it ain't. :'(
    I had to come back here (excellent videos, btw) just to double check that yours wasn't the Mk.I. Whether this is the way they're going with the Surge or just a one-off I don't know, but the loss of the glasses bit and now this, I feel as though I sent my old one off with 2 broken tools & received a replacement with 2 *missing* tools.
    Though, I'm sure I'll grow to love it as much as my old one in time. 8)

    If you pull the plier head open slightly when in the closed position, there will be a space to fit the eyeglass bit in. Pull the pliers apart, hold the bit in place on the right hand side and squeeze them closed again with the tool remaining in the closed position and the bit will be clamped between the flats of the jaws and enables you to use the eyeglass bit without a holder or trying to use the plier jaws proper.

    Regardless, everything else you mentioned with regards to the lanyard loop and other attachments fitting into the saw/file holder is well published in the leatherman manual if you’d just take the time to read it. In the future, if you want to push the lanyard loop out, open the saw first to get it out of the way. Then you get a nice unobstructed access to push it out.

There is nothing about how to do this is the User Guide. I dislike companies that do this kind of thing. To hide it away there is one thing, that doesn't bother me as much as not including a user guide in printed form with the tool and then making it so difficult to force it out and nothing about how to do this in the user guide.

      Update, I was fixing a mountain bike 3 days ago and I was trying to get a hex screw off that was on pretty tight, I kept twisting and twisting and my Super Tool 300 almost broke. I put the bit adapter on my Gerber MP600 and I was able to finish the job. Needless to say I now carry my Mp600 as my EDC, it's just a super tough tool and it's not that heavy. Yeah, I was disapointed in my ST300 bending like that and it's supposed to be a Heavy Duty multitool?? There's no classification for the MP600 but the damn thing is just so solid. Leatherman tried to copy the MP600 with the OHT and it's horrible. You have to keep your fingers on the buttons to release the pliers unlike the MP600 with just the flick of the wrist the pliers come out, I like how it just pops out ready to use. When I use tools, I really use them, I don't care about getting them scratched or putting force on them because they're supposed to take it, I was really disapointed with my ST300, I never thought that would happen!!

Those bastards charged me $7.50 on top the ridiculous price I had to pay for the pocket clip. In total I paid $20 just for a stupid pocket clip. I'll never buy anything directly from them ever again!

    Hey I would like to buy a surge, of course I checked a lot of reviews from a lot of websites one of those was Amazon and I found some really negative reviews with photos of the surge rusty or even broken (it was a full priced one 169€ ), but every other single website says that it's very durable and I don't know what to do, does Amazon simply sell fake garbage??? Can anyone that actually owns or owned the knife give me advice plz????

    • @revare
      @revare Před 3 lety

      I have a number of Skeletool and was curious about the full size models, so I bought a used Surge from eBay. It had some rust spots here and there as the seller pointed out. I cleaned and oiled that Surge, and have put it to good use since. Yes, it will rust of not properly maintained. Junk? No. Absolutely NOT. People buy "almost Leatherman" junk on Amazon, then complain it doesn't meet their expectations or it failed. Leatherman's have a 25 year WARRANTY. If it fails, they will fix it. I broke the pliers on a used Skeletool, sent it in, and it was fixed and returned to me in 3 weeks. Thats what you can expect with a REAL Leatherman. Not knock-off junk for a 3rd of the price.

    Out of curiosity does anyone know what that loop was for? Seems like nothing more than a lanyard loop but odd they don’t advertise it. It’s so much nicer than the snap in one

      I don't know, but it also on the Charge and Wave, which go even deeper than the Surge does. At first I thought I broke something when I saw the metal didn't quite meet and started pushing and out popped a hidden lanyard on my Charge TTI.

      What I would like to see on the Surge is a place to hold another bit! I have the double ended bit, but I would like to have the window breaker bit or may be a torx bit as a 2nd piece to carry. My Skeletool has a back up bit holder.

    How does the saw come out?

    • @ChinskiChat
      @ChinskiChat  Před 7 lety +1

      BOOSTEDLASER - I'll try and explain ... Open the saw and at the base where it joins the knife you'll see that on one side there is another little piece of metal the end of which sites inside a hole. Get a nail under it and slide it either to the left or to the right. This will allow the larger piece of metal under it to slide open and reveal the end of the saw so that you can change it for another tool. Obviously reverse to put back again. Let me know how you get on!
