The vertical lines are, but for some reason there is a problem with the battery contacts. Basically it works fine with an AC adapter, but when I put batteries in there's no sound or battery indicator light, but the screen does turn on very dimly. Thanks for replying though! Love your videos.
The same game console like the newer one, just with a different case was out in the beginning of the 90ies, a friend of mine had it and you can still purchase it on ali express. It's called brick game 9999 in one or something.
This one here, it's selling since early 90ies de.aliexpress.com/item/2017-Classic-Childhood-Tetris-Game-Hand-Held-LCD-Electronic-Game-Toys-Fun-Brick-Game-Riddle-Handheld/32842138441.html?spm=a2g0x.search0104.3.75.3d2f15afNzM6LJ&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_5_10152_10151_10065_10344_10068_10342_10325_10546_10343_10340_10548_10341_10698_10697_10696_10084_10083_10618_10307_10059_10534_308_100031_10103_441_10624_10623_10622_10621_10620,searchweb201603_25,ppcSwitch_5&algo_expid=9b454cd1-9f9b-4038-b319-316f21cfb417-10&algo_pvid=9b454cd1-9f9b-4038-b319-316f21cfb417&priceBeautifyAB=0
Because why not? Give a child a Tetris handheld, will run off those batteries for a while, like months, a year? Perfectly viable in some circumstances. Plus most of the world consists of rural China, India, Africa, they can afford something like this, but that's about it.
It's funny you can find them anywhere in the world, where I live it's mostly dollar stores and sometimes part of the impulse buy section of a grocery store cashier. Got to be billions of these units made worldwide.
No kidding: this game, replete with faux casing and exact emulation of the pixel size, sound effects and game play modes, was briefly sold as an iPhone app , as Brick Games... it's uncanny I actually have had fun with it over the years , some of the modes are fairly compelling...it's not 99 tho, it's like, 10 games with ten varients/difficulties each... but if you see one for 9usd or less , or an app version (which was pulled I believe, but could be back-) it's a pretty fun super old style and it's pretty playable you'll use it a few times... even if you have a phone full of apps and most consoles extant , it's still different and enjoyable enough to recommend
Oh, and the heart thing? Yeah that mode can be quite fun, especially when you realize that you are supposed to shoot bullets and destroy it pixel by pixel I am pretty sure they actually missed out on doing an arkanoid/breakout style mode , maybe I just missed it
in some ways i appreciate what these things are as when i was younger all i had was a 999 brick games in 1 lcd console and although primitive it still kept me entertained until i got a gameboy pocket. people are too keen to put the latest tech like tablets etc into the hands of their kids but theirs no reason to suggest they wouldn't enjoy simpler systems, they don't know anything else afterall.
muahaha, i had the occulus rift of the early nineties! it was one of these cheap lcd toys, back lit, built into a pair of binoculars. it only played one game, a flight game where you were a triangle pressing left/right/up/down to find other triangles and shoot them. it was absolute trash but the ten year old me loved it and got hours out of it.
I had one with a giant racing wheel and buttons on the wheel, it was supposed to have motion controls but motion + janky LCD of a car going left and right absolutely sucked. I literally only liked it because it felt like the future was there even though I strapped a sweaty backlit LCD to my head.
the phone number actually is a swiss mobile number as it ahs the exact same format with 078 standing for orange (nowdays salt) as operator, if you put +41 (area code) at the start of it you will probably reach some swiss guy
Very interesting video! I don't know which is better because i like the design of the 90s one but if you can't see anything on the screen or bad it is not so good. (Is this screen as good as the first gameboy?) The games are interesting too . I had to see 4 times how the game was falling apart. Wow ! hm the other handheld doesn't look good.
To all those Sealed junkies, a simple high quality photo(or video ^_^) of it sealed to archive is all that is needed, anything locked away from the world might as well not exist at all. :\ I think I have a vague memory of the older one, the GB font mostly, even Grandstand logo is similar to Camerica or Galoob. With the tech I'm surprised how few Brick games were made when you look at all the Tiger games. New one was easier to see heh.
I was going to say ,you should recognise that tetris game by now. You've had dozens of the things. Those mini tetris handhelds, the phone-case type fake gameboy, the gamepoke thingy from Brandon Salt's Fake Gameboys video... they're all the bloody same game :P
Out of interest, where did you pick this Grandstand handheld up? Ebay? Also, I wonder if the polariser has faded over time and that's why it's difficult to see? I have a Back to the Future III LCD game of similar vintage that I've had since the early 90's and that's still crystal clear. I wonder if swapping out the polariser with a new one would make a difference?
Please make a video of a pop station the pop station is a PSP ripoff with LED screen and games pls make a video about that the other pop station are just brick games
ahhh, good old days when theres more plastic then the actual electronics.
Such a waste!
Haha I had the "2018" one back in 2000-2005 and the games were exactly the same! Remember playing all of them.
Watching this while fixing vertical lines on an original DMG Gameboy!
Nice man! All fixed?
The vertical lines are, but for some reason there is a problem with the battery contacts. Basically it works fine with an AC adapter, but when I put batteries in there's no sound or battery indicator light, but the screen does turn on very dimly. Thanks for replying though! Love your videos.
Update: all fixed! It was a problem with the battery contacts.

i had that sonic watch
At least back then LCD games had an excuse, why are they still a thing?
Because why not? Give a child a Tetris handheld, will run off those batteries for a while, like months, a year? Perfectly viable in some circumstances. Plus most of the world consists of rural China, India, Africa, they can afford something like this, but that's about it.
Cheap I guess!
Siana Gearz
I guess in that aspect
It's funny you can find them anywhere in the world, where I live it's mostly dollar stores and sometimes part of the impulse buy section of a grocery store cashier. Got to be billions of these units made worldwide.
Ha I had that black thing back in 2002 but it was shaped different purple

The newer one I mean , in case you're wondering....

I still think they are pretty awesome!
I had exactly the same 9999 in 1 trash as a child and i'm 31.

You should scan that product guide!

Does the game carts work with the U.S. version made by Micro Games of America for their Game Wizard system?
Im not sure man!
Probably yes. It is definitely the same thing, and I have three of the MGA Game Wizards, all the games are cross compatible!

I know right! This one seemed better than the others though. Much better contrast and wayyy less ghosting.
The Retro Future you should turn it into a new series ;)
Out of interest, where did you pick this Grandstand handheld up? Ebay?

Got it from ebay yeah!
There’s the high end of gaming which is pc gaming and there’s the low end which is LCD games that are made with plastic that won’t survive a drop
Haha!
64 bits

Good times!
i kinda want one of these just to play Tetris. does anyone know any good cheap Tetris consoles?
I have a couple videos of them on my channel.
... now backlight those screens!
Why.
A sobering thought... all those people that made that 90s game system, they're all dead now. Wow.
Why would they be dead?
It doesn't even seem all that much better...
It's not
Hello
Greetings!
Please make a video of a pop station the pop station is a PSP ripoff with LED screen and games pls make a video about that the other pop station are just brick games
The new LCD thing reminds me of a PopStation, it has that same cheap look.
Interesting
The 1992 unit is so crappy you can't tell if you're playing football or soccer.
Thats the same thing in the UK!
What dead slow camera with the shittiest focus on yT history! 5000 thumbs down! 5002 thumbs up for presentation and voice!
