  • At this historic Independent Institute event, renowned author Gore Vidal rejects the blind "patriotism" expected by government officials and the mainstream media, and investigates U.S. foreign policy throughout recent history, showing how it has contributed to the terrorist crisis. With his famous wit and insight, Vidal also demonstrates the ways in which the "War on Terrorism" is being used to curtail civil liberties, shred the Bill of Rights, and foster a more dangerous world. Moderated by Lewis H. Lapham (Editor, "Harper's Magazine"), the program also includes a panel of scholars, Barton J. Bernstein (Professor of History, Stanford University), Robert Higgs (Senior Fellow in Political Economy, Independent Institute), and Thomas Gale Moore (Senior Fellow, Hoover Institution).

What a wonderful rhetorician he was. This channel should get more appreciation in the form of subscriptions. Thanks for sharing these videos of one of the great political thinkers of the 20th century.

If there is one truthful member that is outspoken in congress (and has powerful influence) today, it's Bernie. IF only he had the mild/matter-of-fact and humorous delivery of Gore Vidal, we might see some changes and public action to implement those changes.

Gore was pretty much on point... the panel was pretty much useless and added nothing to the discussion, or to humanity, ever at all.

Clinton... He understood the economy and what needed to be done , but instead of developing a consensus , he just indulged in grubby schoolboy behaviour... That was my understanding
