- It's #VanLife time! Vincent Van Go has been upgraded! My 2000 Chevy Astro van has gone through some big changes to make it ready for long road trips. These were all simple, cost-effective upgrades that added storage and comfort to my small DIY Camper Van. I added a hitch rack, roof rack, roof-top box, and made some changes to the bed and the kitchen. Check it out and let me know what you think of my van upgrades!

It's simple. I see a Miranda video, I click.
It's so neat that this is the REI channel, but it's not a constant barrage of product placement. Just quality content. Great job, REI
For sure! She's just wants to really share her hobbies and adventures with everyone. Such a sweet soul
Thank you so much! - Miranda
Keep going these are neat. Mine is a 2005 GMC Safari I love it. Got a 12 volt& 110 Iceco refrigerator & a 2000 watt gas generator with a
Electric skillet.
Bed is a metal folding cot frame
With 3" foam mattress. Limo tinted windows with clipped on black bath towels for black out curtains. Great camping travel rig.
In the world of 100k+ camper vans, I absolutely love the simplicity of Vince. It’s real and awesome and shows you don’t need extravagance to have something to be proud of!
Having seen many DIY camper van builds, I would not rank this one among any of the better ones. It is hard to know where to start, but there are many things wrong with it, layout, big storage thing on top, massively over built roof rack and so on. Camper vans are great, but this is not one of the better ones. I do like Miranda and the vids she does for REI on camping and so on, but as camper vans go - and I'm strictly talking DIY ones here - this one is really kind of a dud.
@@christopherhaak9824 I respectfully disagree. Having watched so many DIY van build videos and making my own plan for my gorgeous van build, I bought an old SUV, built a narrow bed on top of a leveled floor (the hardest part) and realized it didn't need to be a gorgeous packed full build. For my purposes simplicity, and maximizing rooftop storage on an overdone roof rack, was exactly what I needed. After putting 12,000 mi on it in 4 months I have no plans to add to it. Miranda's simplicity is awesome, and seems to be exactly what she needs.
Miranda makes me happy! REI couldn’t have a better spokesperson.
Would be interested in a POC spokesperson personally. I can't watch stuff like this nowadays without thinking of the privilege and racism in this country that have created huge racial inequities that make activities like this outside of the reach of a huge swath of fellow Americans... Except as a reality (homelessness/poverty)
That said. I appreciate and really like Miranda's energy otherwise. Just really weighed down by the context nowadays
@@robindegu7294 How does racism prevent anyone from participating in van life?
@@robindegu7294 racist
Okay Karen. Burp
I cannot believe you did not ask "Do you want to see this Vincent Van Go?"
She's Miranda not MiranDAD
@@nicojar 🤣 I love that 🤣
Her pedals are named "van stop" and "van ___"
Excellent 👍
The hand pump on the water jug is pretty genius.
Yea where did you find the water sink?
Genius.
REI needs to have Vincent Van Go stickers now
As a fan of interior design, efficient use of space, building stuff, and outdoorsy stuff, this video showing up in my feed is proof that the algorithm works.
I’d love to see some dispersed camping videos with Vincent! Keep ‘em coming, Miranda and team!
I have watched a million vans. Just came across this gal and her van. I love this chick. She is cool loves out doors plus worried with easy water fill up for her dog. Yes I can relate with this female. The van was great too.
in a world of boredom and bad news Mirandas videos always brighten up my day!
I would love to see more van camping. Sort of incorporated into your backpacking stuff. But this was a real good video for ideas. Really enjoyed
Learned righty tighty lefty loosey as a child, today at 50 years old, still say it!!
GREAT updates!!
Love that you split your pull out into 1/3 size chunks for ease of use, to prevent pulling out your back, and for more configurations, great idea! I love that your unembellished build allows for suitable modifications without too much grief, and your design change is well thought out. You still have ample room to work on a bicycle inside if it is raining outside, if a park shelter isn't nearby. Roof fan is a needed addition, please do another video on cross ventilation for humid weather, by adding additional mobile mount DC USB fans, comparing if 1 bigger fan is enough, or if 3 tiny fans in 3 different locations blowing slower is more effective.
Your's is the first conversion of an Astro Van that I could thoroughly relate to. Your lastest upgrades are wonderful and well thought out
Yes I'd love to see your road trip and more of your van.
I'm subscribing!
Miranda, a good easy. . shower. cheap is a small 1 or 2 gal sprayer used to spray herbicides . take off wand and put spray nozzle on hose a clamp or two can hang anywhere . Put out camp fire , wash sand off you, dog ,cool off on hot day.rinse off anything . Thanks for your tour. Roy Boy.
Love the simplicity of your van! I’m a fulltime traveller in a 19 ft trailer, so I appreciate how you’ve updated it to fit you and what you want to do with it.
Sick van! Love the upgrades and new vent fan. I really dig this show, gosh darn!
Road trip for sure. Take care, Al
yah, lets see ya out in the wild in your cool van! Woot!
Vincent Van Go is awesome. Love the bumper stickers!
Heck yeah we want to see some road trippin’ in Vince!
Best commercial I have seen in awhile. How did REI get somebody this real?
I literally JUST bought a 2005 Chevy Express to convert to a camper and I couldn't be more excited about it!! This video came at the perfect time :)
Waiting for cooking videos on your table top on a road trip 🤤
I agree--Miranda is the coolest 😎 I would love to see more van videos🚐
Working on building a van myself so super stoked for this video!
I just love the upgrade made "mini. Mine is definitely micro, ford Transit connect. Keeping things😅 minimal & more to "scale", but decor boho. Down near the floor, beads & chimes to align ur "chakras" 😆. Hoping to post the process, love the low and adequate space! Great job. Happy travels
A pass seat swivel is Great! It makes that entire area more open and adds a comfy seat to living area.
Can't wait to get mine.
Living the best life in a van by the river.
Love the simplicity and efficient use of space in your van! Please keep sharing your van upgrades :)
When this vans a rockin..... get me the hell out I locked myself in!
Yeah! Road trip, road trip!
Astro vans are rock magnets . My window has a crack and until I can't see it's staying because I know it will happen again as soon as I get a new one
That rack is amazing. Fellow Astro camper here!
Omg hilarious and so true- I love how you acted like parts would be edited out but you kept them anyway- I can’t stand watching people seamlessly move around and reconfigure their vans/etc like they are magical and never make mistakes- also another reason I like REI- people are down to earth & know what they’re doing, especially when I don’t- and I still don’t feel like an idiot. Mostly. Lol. Def keep up with the van videos! I’ve wanted to live on the road ever since I was a little kid- and now it’s fortunately and unfortunately really “popular”- it’s nice to see some down to earth builds that are entirely within budget limitations- instead of people sending their brand new transit vans off for a few weeks and 4 million dollars later they have a beautiful home on wheels- I mean, hell if you have the $ and knowledge to do that, go right ahead- but that’s just not reality for most of the people in this community- so that’s my long rant about how yes, van videos/road trip blogs/etc are definitely something I know I would watch all the time. Liked & subbed just bc of this video. Thanks!
More Miranda In the Wild in a Van please!
yes to road trips! would love to see you tour some national parks & national forests since you're now built to travel far :D
i have to admit, seeing the before and after on the sleep system was super illuminating. that is a YUUGE change, but i didn't get it at first.
This was great! The changes to the bed and kitchen area are so smart. I'd love to see a road trip video!
Love your weekly show . Definitely want to see a van trip video 😀
Long road trip video! Yes please!
From VW bus conversion experience, I would like to suggest a rollout/fold out tarp/awning on the sliding door side. Ours added more activity space missing in side the micro bus. You might also consider an awning over that neat table on the trailer hitch.
some Astro vans
have a 3 door opening. The window section lifts up for overhead shade and keep weather off you. GMC Safari vans also have those feathures.
Three things .... first, I've learned from you .... the greatest gift one can give so thank you. Second, in your van ... get two fire extinguishers and mount one up front and one in the back in plain sight. Third ... anything not strapped down turns into a projectile in an accident. Most importantly the power supply/battery. Strap than thing down! Love your energy and enthusiasm.
I want to see your van in other videos :)
I’m obsessed with Miranda!
The Exo system is legit; can't wait until they finally get them off the container ships.
In addition to a ladder, check out the Moki Door Step for your sliding door side of the van
I love the Miranda videos. Brings joy to my day and keeps my dreams alive for traveling/backpacking. I think I met her several years ago when REI sent a crew to my house to interview me on equipment I carry when backpacking.
I love the new design of the bed. Very smart. ... Road Trip? Heck yeah! Let's go!
All the upgrades and improvements you've made to Vince are great! Looks awesome. Yes, a road trip video would be cool!
I wonder if there is a fold-out shelter that could be attached to the roof rack? (for the rear "kitchen")
Vehicle camping is great because the weight of the gear isn't as important.
The van is looking amazing Miranda, have fun and stay safe on your journeys!
🤗 YAY!! Super Duper job on Vince, looking forward to more videos! Great Video guys!! 🥰👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I enjoy the van videos. I think a road trip series would be cool.
Awesomeness (the quality of being extremely impressive or daunting) thank you for sharing.
We're glad you enjoyed it! Are you planning to upgrade a camper van?
@@rei I have done several over the years. Actually have a company SUV that I have bedded down in on trips. Motels are expensive lol. 14 bucks for a good shower at a truck stop is a lot cheaper lol
1000th view. For sure you need to meet up with Hannah Lee Duggan if you do a road trip in the van. :)
I love a video that is a realistic camper van. So many van life videos that are just out of reach for normal human skill or cost. I would love more van videos to see it in action.
This is a great video and a cool van. I always look forward to your videos Miranda!
You rock! I can't wait to see what you do with Vincent!
Congratulations on your upgrades! Thank you for the post I really enjoyed it.
MIranda, you installed your own Fantastic Vent! That's some pro level DIYing. I have installed three on my own campers and know what it takes. There's a LOT of people that would never try that. And Kudos for Fantastic choice. The best there is.
It looks GREAT! Well done, Miranda! ROAD TRIP!!! Thanks for always lifting my Spirits! :)
Vince needs tto be promoted to co-star! To fancy to not love!
Wax the wood for the bed slides to make them slide easier. you can use a regular candle for this but surfboard wax would work better.
More van please/road trips. Shwanky build.
Really great build! Fun to watch 🤗❤️
Love it! Fun vid, cute little Burp :)
I’m about 99% sure I’ve seen you out on the road! I recognized the van and immediately clicked.
I’m going to find that ladder to get to my roof. I’ve been looking for something like that so I can load my kayak onto my skoolie.
Head space is so key---love all the changes, those little things count! :)
Looks great Miranda!
Your level of enthusiasm is great and your knowledge base is great you remind me a little bit of a song by a group name red Ryder called lunatic fringe it fits
One thing you might consider, is bug netting for either your sliding door, or your back doors. You could roll it up and stored on your ceiling. You could probably weight the bottom down with magnets that stick to the van. I know you just got a fan, but incase you want more openness.
Also, I want you to know that from watching your channel, you inspired to apply to my local REI, and I've been very happily working there since December :)
He’s turning into quite the van! I love seeing how you started and each iteration.
You've done a great job!!
Groovey! I absolutely love it. Great video.
Love it! Very functional. I have a rust bucket of a pick-up with a truck bed cover that lifts up like a clam shell. I put a sheet of plywood in the back and a small aerobed inflatable mattress and slept back there a few times at trailheads. Although it was tight, it was better than trying to sleep in the pickup cab. Hoping that the next vehicle will provide better sleeping arrangements.
Those were some great upgrades to your van Miranda! Also another Great video from you too! I always start out by Liking so I don't forget because I know the content is always Likable as you are!!
Love your style. Great upgrades and use of the RV faucet on the water jug. I can car campers wanting to do that.
i will always love that content this genuine comes out of a brand youtube channel, keep up the good job
Oh Heck Bin - great new name for a junk drawer!
An additional thought for the van, replace your backup and head lights with the equivalent LED bulbs. They are normally a simple bulb replacement upgrade to have more light when backing or driving. LED replacements for the driving space overhead and door mounted courtesy make it brighter inside. All this and they draw much less power. We have done this with our vehicles and it has made life better.
Keep posting videos we love them!
Vince is awesome! You are amazing! 😃
You’re inspiring me, gosh darn!
Yes roadtrip!
Would love to see future van videos!
Good episode. Good upgrades. 🌿
Miranda jest SUPER 😁😁😁
To absolutna KRÓLOWA 👑 tego kanału 😉 !!!
Dzięki za pozytywną energię i mnustwo inspiracji 👍!!!
Pozdrowienia z Polski 🤗
Omg great upgrade! I need to get an astro
Yes!!! Please, do more van life videos, for sure!!
Great video.
Thanks for watching 😄
You should install an awning on the opposite side from your roof storage box. Otherwise it seems like a waste to have such a huge rack when you could do it with a smaller rack and roof storage box at the rear just to fit the table top. Then you'd have room on the van roof towards the front to install solar panels since you already have a generator.
Van looks awesome. I like the fan, and the new Yakama rack is actually really cool (now Thule needs to make one). Oh, and MORE VAN STUFF!
I love the swing out rack, with table top. It would likely even work on our minivan. Yes you need to do some traveling videos. We would love to meet you on the road some day. Safe travels.
Can’t wait for the Miranda On The Road series.
Hi Miranda! Nice van you have. Regarding the battery, have you ever thought to install solar panels on the roof?
You should really secure that battery for road trips if you don't. If you get into an accident or rollover, that thing will do some major damage to whatever it hits. You'll notice work vans have a cage and 4x4 people strap heavy things like spare tires down so they don't go flying.
You should put the rack on the other side so you can open your door and step up :)
WOW! Great share, video and upgrades! Too cool and thanks MCUH for sharing great ideas and products shown.. Curious who and where your custom welded rack, as great use of roof for other things and obviously very strong.... All the BEST to you and adventures to come! Cheers ! :)
I absolutely love your videos!!!
Amazing ideas!! I watch so many camper van videos and camper truck videos and I haven't seen these ideas.
I bought a rooftop carrier similar to this for my van only to find the hinges were interchangeable side to side, the box on the passenger side made it much more accessible.
Thank you so much for changing bad boy to thing 😊
love your attitude
