TAMPERE FINLAND - CATCHING THE TRAM BETWEEN SANTALAHTI & HERVANTA, Freezing Cold -16c (4K)

  • It was New Years Eve, and this was the start of a week of crazy cold temperatures, it was -16c when I was out, by the time I got back to my hotel mid afternoon, it was getting close to -20c.
With the previous day spent walking around Tampere, and having a 24hr (A-B) Tampere Regional Transport Ticket, via the Nysse Mobilli App (cost €7.00), given how cold it was, a few hours spent on the Tram sounded like a great idea.
First off I headed North to Santalahti where the Tram Station lies just near the foreshore of Näsijärvi Lake (which was totally frozen over).
After some time walking around, and braving the bitterly cold winds, it was time to head back to the tram stop and jump on the Tram heading South all the way to Hervanta.
One thing you will find with the Trams, and Buses in Tampere (and for that matter, throughout Finland) they run on schedule, are clean and safe. An added bonus is a lot of vehicles/carriages have USB or Power outlets to charge your devices (a huge bonus when it is so cold where batteries drain a lot faster than normal).
Once the Tram arrived at Hervanta, aside from a few apartment buildings, you were pretty much surrounded by forest, yet only 20-25 minutes from the city.
As I had a New Years Eve Dinner booked at Lapland Hotels Arena, and needing to thaw out a bit, I called it a day.
I will definitely be coming back to Tampere, there is a lot more to see and do that just cannot be covered in 48hrs, especially with such extreme cold temperatures.
