Thanks for your repair videos I have a '75 Sedan Deville de elegance that I'm fixing to put back on the road. She's a rust bucket but she's my baby got lots of floor repair and engine work.
Thank you so much for the video. I had no idea that the switch controlled so much. Mine is working fine, but I have watched your videos before and decided to take a look at this one just in case I ever had that issue. You are absolutely correct. $500 buck is absolutely outrageous and I would not buy ANY item they would have to sell. To save your viewers time and expense, most of this era's GM parts can be fixed by simply taking them apart and cleaning them. Just be respectful that the part is going on 50 years old and take it apart with care. The only part I was not able to fix on my 76 convertible was the illuminated entry delay relay found under the left kick panel. I carefully opened it up only to find all sorts of rust. It was so bad that most of the resisters were in rusty pieces and the PC board was way beyond repair. I am still looking for another one and found one but like your greedy little friend, this guy wanted well over $200 bucks for his, and no guarantee it would even work. So I purchased one off eBay for a 77-78 Eldorado for $20 bucks and made a new wiring harness so I did not have to cut the factory wires in case I ever found the original and it works just fine. It works exactly the same but the plug configuration is different. So with some spade clips, I made an adapter harness. I have a 1975 Convertible parts car that I need to strip and I will definitely grab that part as well as I had no idea how expensive and impossible they were to find. Thanks again for the video!
Thanks for writing and for the encouragement. You should take a look at the 1987 Brougham Opera Lamp video. I did the same thing you did with your relay. These cars are a ton of fun if you take your time and use a little common sense. I always make it a point to strip everything of value any time I see one going to the scrapper or a demo derby. I may never need the parts, but somebody will someday. Stay in touch.
Hey thank you very much West of the lake Cadillac I appreciate you very much I just did your repair now the lights work perfectly where they weren't working before now they do and I spent maybe $150-175 to get them diagnosed unfortunately but at least I didn't spend you know two three four five hundred dollars to get the part thanks to you I appreciate you thank you very much!
I like what you said about all these take advantage guys with the $500 neutral safety switches I just checked one guy online & he wants like over $800 just for a rebuilt power antenna for my 1976 Cadillac El Dorado these guys are ridiculous thank you for attacking them!
Thanks for watching! The easiest way to get rid of those sharks is to stop buying from them. Let that stuff sit on their shelves until it rots. You can't expect to get it for free, but they need to be reasonable.
wonderful delicate handwork. Wish you had a 2nd camera with the tripod. I so want to see you actually sand down contacts disassemble in more detail and reassemble in more detail showing placements of rivets choices and sizes. Love your brilliant expertise. Your talent makes America great in the world go round.
Thank you post posting this. My 76 coupe won't start in Park or Neutral but it will start if I push the shifter from neutral towards Reverse. I started investigating and your video was very helpfull
@@westofthelakecadillacclub The switch in my car now looks like yours since I drilled out the rivets, fixed the issue in the switch and closed it up with very small bolts. I also had issues with the ignition switch and ended up removing the steering wheel and 60% of the dashboard to drop the steering column to get to the ignition switch. All issues resolved, realigned properly the ignition switch and reassembled the whole thing. Now the car runs like new and has no rattles in the dash since no parts os scews remained in the tray once I was done :)
@@westofthelakecadillacclub Nope, not a scew, bolt or random small part, nothing left (as it should be). I'm very satisfied with the result even though I won't ever wonder what that leftover scew is supposed to hold 😂😂
Great tutorial. You should certainly make more of these videos! I've been doing this procedure before, started at the time when the asking price for one of these was $300 🤑 Considered that outrageous. But $500💰... 🥴 How could anyone be interested in the classic car hobby with that kind of asking price, beats me 🙄
Thank you, a tripod is on my Christmas list. We started doing the videos for fun, but then quickly realized how much they help people, so we are definitely going to step up the production values.
Fantastic video! Currently working out the "No reverse lights" issue out on my 77 SDV -- I read 200-3000ohms in Reverse across the switch, so I need to rebuild as you've shown. Do you have any details about the sizing for the replacement rivets? Looks like you may have used a bolt and nut for a couple of spots as well? I pay the $500 for someone to follow me saying "beep beep beep", but I don't think that'll pass Massachusetts safety inspection 😅
Well, you win the internet today, but if you are in Massachusetts, wouldn't it be bahp, bahp, bahp? Your keen eye caught the use of nuts and bolts because my rivet gun wouldn't go deep enough to get over that ridge. The other ones are just standard pop rivets from the hardware store. Thanks for watching and let us know how it turns out!🤣
@@westofthelakecadillacclub I ended up going w/ nuts and bolts because I had some on hand that were right sized -- complete success thanks to this video! -- only cost me eight 1/16" drill bits I broke trying to get the rivets out before I realize I could "chew up the collar" by going at an angle with a larger bit 😅 czcams.com/users/shortseGUFPHXLBX4?feature=share
Amazing video - made the job really simple, and now I have vacuum to my brake release (I think the diaphragm is leaking, but getting closer lol). Main thing I did differently was I used M2.5 nuts and bolts to put it back together, rather than new rivets. Question: do you have wires going to the other two plugs? I believe they are for an automatic door unlock, but mine are not plugged in and I have not located them...wondering if my '75 Eldorado didn't have them, or if they were removed/hidden somehow.
Thanks for watching! If you aren’t finding the 2nd wiring harness, then the automatic door locks weren’t installed on your car. Keep watching and be sure to subscribe.
It's a good thing you're doing. Showing how to fix vintage Cadillacs. Your not selfish, God bless you.
