    Can someone who has already tried this help me: this is regarding the issue mentioned in 'a big caveat' section
    I have known this issue for a couple of years now and thats why have always bought wired headphones for gaming, since I often get on discord while playing coop with friends. I also appreciate the much better sound quality on regular zoom / work calls on wired headphones.
    However I have noticed that with a dongle based bluetooth connection the audio quality is much better. Currently I don't have any dongle based headphones so I can't try this out: Does a dongle based bluetooth allow for enough bandwidth for stereo audio + voice? or will that connection also produce similar results (mono / flat audio during calls)

    • @techlessYT
      @techlessYT  Před 2 lety +4

      Thanks! There really isn't a latency difference between wired headphones unless they do some kind of weird processing, which the headphone I used definitely does not. It basically comes down to the time the electrical signal takes to travel through the wire, which is totally negligible in this scenario. So the wired headphones I used really are just as fast as the fastest gaming branded headphones in that matter.
      Though I have to say that the headphone DAC makes a difference on latency. And what I used probably wasn't the fastest setup. I definitely need to do some further testing on that.

  • @atrix319
    @atrix319 Před 2 lety +11

    Get a bluetooth dongle that supports Aptx Low Latency and corresponding headphones that do also, that solves the latency issue and then you can disable the hands free mode in the sound control panel.
    If you care enough about the sound quality and comfort advantages to headphones over headsets, the you should be willing to pay a little extra for a modmic or desk mic, and get a dongle.

    • @danielhoglan3468
      @danielhoglan3468 Před 11 měsíci +1

      Technology is sufficient enough that at the very least, a bt headset could be two bt devices. One headphones and one mic. The datarates of wireless transmissions is insane today, there is no reason it can't be done other than it hasn't. It at least wasn't when you wrote this. This is why I'm on this old but on topic video seeing if there is anything new out there. I could get into my personal issues with your suggestions, but suffice to say that I have very legitimate reasons for needing bt earbuds with mic support and not using a2dp for audio when doing so. My case is niche for a few reasons, but... Everyone should be able to put in earbuds or headphones over bt this day in time and have that ability.
      If there are any suggestions for today, please let me know. I'm not opposed to a usb dongle over bt. Earbuds are pretty much a requirement. bt should still be able to do it, not doing so is a shortcoming. This particular issue well over a decade old at this point.

There is noticeable delay when I compare it side to side with wired speakers/heaphones, but I just tune it out honestly. The comfort of having wireless heaphones with great ANC wins over any latecy issues. As for WH-1000XM4 delay will be the same or similar. It's still Bluetooth, not a dedicated wireless connection. Only aptX LL/Adaptive has lower latency, but for LL you need a dedicated transmitter (you can buy bluetooth audio dongles which support it) and Adaptive is basicaly dead when it comes to transmitters. Remember also that WH-1000XM4 supports only SBC, AAC and LDAC codecs. In theory AAC should be supported by Windows 10/11 now, but you might be defaulted to SBC (which isn't terrible, but it does have a bit higher latency than aptX).
