Great video. I’d still go with the Macan. From a practicality and real world perspective the Macan is awesome. Plus from a reliability standpoint the Porsche is just better built. I have a few friends and coworkers that drive the M series in 3 and 5. Without fail they have had issues with engines and transmissions. When compared to my 911 997 Twin Turbo they spend a lot more time in the shop than I.
Finally the drag battle is back!! Waited it for quite some time now since the last one!!
So let me get this...a lighter, more powerful car is quicker than a heavier, less powerful SUV?

2007 911 turbo did 0-100 mph in 9 sec. New M3 faster by over half a sec to 100 mph. Crikey mate!
That Turbo is also 7 years old, not too surprising

ewt415 that is the point, the rate of technology and performance is incredible. The gen 2 997 turbo was not much quicker and that only finished, what, 3 yrs ago. M3 quicker than a 3 yr old 911 turbo, impressive.

I'm surprised at how emphatic the victory was for the M3. 8.6 seconds to 100 mph is blisteringly fast - only 0.8 seconds behind an F40. 11.1 seconds for the Macan is quite startling too.

All this hate for the Macan is ridiculous. It's going to sell. It's going to sell a LOT. Just like the Cayenne. The Cayenne gave Porsche so much god damn money that they built a new R&D department which resulted in the 918. People need to stop hating cars like this and appreciate the fact that its these kinds of cars that give car manufacturers the cash to research and build some amazing shit.
That 0-100mph time is insane for a sedan.

Still impressed by the Macan. It needs more power though, 400 hp doesn't cut it for 2 tons of car. 450 to 500 would be much more fitting, but if Porsche makes a Turbo S, the price would be scary.
I love these comparisons, however, it would be nice to see the performance figures side-by-side as the narrator reads off the numbers.
Higher weight , 30 horsepower less and at higher speeds more drag....Macan does not stand a chance. No point for this drag race.

I wan't to see the M3 vs one of the lower trim Panamera's, maybe a S or even a GTS.
I would really love to see Porsche give the Macan the GT-R treatment that it gave to the Juke-R. Just by lowering the stance of the Juke, which looks like a sizeable cross-over SUV, it instantly looked smaller and took on the proportions of a hot hatch. I think doing something like dropping the Macan like that and maybe giving it some wider fenders would create the same effect: Making it look smaller, and looking like it was intended to be a hot hatch from the beginning.
And wow, for all the M3's power, the i8 is still quicker. That's what a carbon tub and AWD, a 1.5L I3 turbo powering the back wheels and electric motors powering the fronts, with electric motors that have full power from 0 rpm will do for you.
Not really an SUV fan, but having been in a fast ish ride in a Cayenne GTS it was a laugh. But I'd probably have the M3/M4, though I prefer the old E92 M3.
This is so ironic because I was just thinking about how much I love both of these cars the other day.. And now there's a mashup video of the two, even though they're completely different cars!
I personally have the f30 335i and I love it. I can't imagine a car that feels faster, nor do I think I need one faster than it. But more power is always nice :) I'd love to trade up to the M3 a couple years later.
By the time you've finally finished twiddling all your knobs and buttons on these two gameboys the green light has passed and that Citroen 2cv that was sat next to you is already down the road.
The M4 would actually be a lot quicker off the line however ive been to bruntingthorpe and the rough concrete runway is less than ideal for a powerful RWD car

Would like to see a test without launch control as well since I doubt most users are going to go through all of those steps even in rare instances
The M3 does a quarter mile in 12,4 seconds? That's fast, quite fast. It's just a shame not to see manual cars around anymore.

it comes standard with a manual. You have to pay $2500 for the dual clutch paddle shift. Also motor trend got 3.9 to 60 and 12.2 quarter mile

Buchhalter007 no.. 60mph is 60mph. Its an imperial unit. You are confusing the 0-100kph conversion to mph.

You can change launch rpm in the BMW using the cruise control switch on the steering wheel. 3000 rpm is way too much, it would've done better if you launched it at 2000-2200.

I was watching other comparison videos with the Macan, so I saw Macan vs X3, not M3. Why the heck would you pit these two together? Is the next video going to be, M3 vs 918? Who's your money on for that one?
How is drag coefficient not even mentioned here? I'd reckon it should come right after power-to-weight ratio when it comes to accelerating past 100 mph.
Because of the "Swiss Knife" advantage of the Porsche I would put my money on the Macan. However as a sport car, the BMW is better.
high performance SUV have batter weight distribution AWD and ow end torque for off the line. After that, the power to weight, aero and stability will lose the advantage

those test are very cool but the inconsistency is slightly annoying. some cars are raced on 800m some on 1000km, therefore you cant really compare them afterwards.

Well, it was kinda expected to turn out this way. With launch control a 4wd car will be fast out of the line. If they were both manual the Macan wouldn't stand a chance to be ahead at any point. I love them both anyway x)

There is no way a tall, fat crossover/SUV could hold up against a power-similar low-riding saloon coupe. A more 'fair' comparison would be between a Station Wagon against a crossover/SUV.
Not a fair comparison. Should match the Macan with an X6-M or and Audi Q3-S. The weight advantage the m3 had is what puts it ahead due to the fact that it sits lower, and well, it's a car not an SUV.

M3 for daily commute and occasional track days, Macan for offroading and touring.
cayenne turbo would have been a better race, with 0-60 in 4.0 and 12.4 quarter it should be equal to the m3. Of course it costs a lot more, but it is a giant SUV compared to a tiny car

Mix man you are wrong. The 2007 911 turbo does 0-100 mph in 7.8 seconds. The m3/4 is NOWHERE even in the same realm. And the m3 is really making closer to 500 hp and more than the 911 turbo. The 2010 turbo did 0-100 in 7 and the turbo S in 6.7. No bmw is even close to those figures of a 2007 turbo let alone anything 2010 or newer.

People remember that this is the first turbo M car, so expect some serious remaps and power increases over the next few months from Dinan and the like.
I was debating on which to buy, but still went with the Macan turbo and ordered yesterday. Coming from a BMW owner i feel the interior of the new BMW are so out dated. The ride is so much more comfortable in the Porsche

Wait but you're putting a tried and true race horse in the M3 against, say a, battle elephant, for want of a better substitute, in the Porsche? I highly doubt the individual asking "how do I get a family of 4 around the fastest for under 60K" will look long and hard at the M3. And the M3 prospective owner long and hard at the Macan... This test was interesting but a bit odd.

press launch button, press brake, floor throttle, release brake and your gone, its that easy!
that said, it doesn't need launch control as its just as quick just mashing the throttle
these european cars seem overly complicated to activate the system... if i pulled up at a stop light and wanted to race the guy next to me, he'd be half way home before you had finished setting the car up

Obviously the M3 would be quicker overall, but for an SUV you have to respect the Macan. Plus the interior is leaps and bounds ahead of the M car.

So I'm debating which one to get in 2016 between Mercedes AMG 63S, BMW M3, Audi S6, or Porsche Macan Turbo, could someone give me suggestion which to get or other options i could go for?

***** In my opinion, out of those options, it's a toss up between the C63S and the M3. You can get away with an M3 similarly optioned for a good amount of money less than the C63... but the C has more hp, a V8, and is slightly (key word, slightly) faster in a straight line. The M3 is the better track car, and in my opinion the much better looking and much more aggressive of the two. I picked M3 and never looked back! Good luck

No Doubt, nowadays BMW M cars is comparable to entry level Porsche 911.
i'm sorry but the fastest way for a family of 4 for under 60k GPB would be 4 motorbikes, like four ZX6Rs or something similar. each gets one, and it'll rip an M3 to shreds. it'll rip an M4 to shreds too. :)

I wonder what brought on this comparison? The Porsche transmission won't allow it to accelerate to high speed as fast as the M3. This result is very obvious on paper so I wonder if this was brought on as a promotion for the M3 which seems pretty weak.
