I have a TGIF Spot. It sits on the end table beside my chair. With the stock antenna and my 878 stock I can go to my parking area for storm spotting and work the hotspot with no trouble. Mapping show it at just under a quarter of a mile. I'm sure if I moved it up on a high shelf on the first floor or even to the second floor I could get a lot more so 300 feet is not very much

I have a DVmega that I could get 4-5 miles of range if i hooked it up to my big outdoor dual bander. So I imagine this would be the same or better.

I got around a half mile, give or take, on my stock setup.

Not a very good test because there are so many environmental factors which can change the range of a UHF transceiver which is what I assume is in a hotspot 73 Tom VK3FTOM

How about we put a ground plane antenna on the hotspot?

      Dean,
I was thinking the same thing, but I would like to put it in a waterproof box on my tower. I am hoping I could get the 12 volts from the cat 6 cable.

What was the power setting on the radio for that test?

Well that looks like it would cover the town of Knox where I live. How do I keep others off of it?

Hi Dean! You can change the settings from public to private under the Pi-Star configuration settings. Your question sparked a good video idea for us, so we will be making a video in the near future showing exactly how this is done. In the meantime, you can contact our tech team for assistance on this. bridgecomsystems.freshdesk.com/support/tickets/new
