I remember when Eli said he likes watching reactions of "the guy who thinks he doesn't know much about music but still makes sense with what he says" and I remember thinking he was talking about you!
I agree j none brought us something special in this one. I'm not a high tenor fan but John is the exception. He's so crisp and clean without the shriek. They started a little slow for my liking but really made it their own and pulled it together. Great reaction.
I adore what they did with this, and John was just amazing! Such killer vocals with all of them and the combo of Geoff's bass and Layne's beatbox at the height of the song with John's atmospheric notes is SO powerful! Not that any of it would be nearly as amazing without J. None and Eli holding down those harmonies in the middle. It's just such an incredible arrangement and performance. I felt like I held my breath for most of this song when I was first hearing it, and heck, still, just to not miss a note.
Great reaction! I really loved this cover by them - I think the arrangement was wonderful and John knocked it out of the park.
The song was written for a prison movie, “Unchained”. Later words were written and Todd Duncan had the original recording. The song has been recorded by several artists, including Elvis around 1977.
I love this cover! John is insanely talented, it's crazy. And that section of Layne's beatboxing was absolutely incredible!
I'm right there with you on the play it again train! These a capella groups are so multifaceted that you can't hear everything at once. I have to go back over and over and make a concentrated effort to hear each layer! Keep up the awesome reactions! I appreciate you! ❤

I really enjoyed this reaction Dennis & I so agree with you. Ever since I first saw/heard "It Ain't Me" I have loved John Pinto, Jr. and I am NOT a fan of "higher range" singers. I almost always find myself wincing but not with John. My very first thought when I heard Earl left was that John would be such a great 5th member. I was really excited when Geoff said they would be working with John again & this song/video did not disappoint. John's voice is so light & airy, never screechy and I could listen to him all day, which is a serious complement from me. I agree that all the VP guys were wonderful as well but they always are! I know many Eli fan's are disappointed he didn't get a "solo" but I love Eli too and there are many songs where he has a large part. It's all part of being in a group. Geoff's arrangement of this was really beautiful as well.

I love your reaction! I can only confirm it! Words fail me every time I hear voiceplay. I can never get enough of the Geoffdowns and the Laynesane beatboxing. It doesn't matter who joins in for voiceplay, they're all incredibly good!

This is really good, though I would have liked to hear more from the members of Voiceplay themselves. This is more like John Pinto Jr. featuring Voiceplay. But it’s still excellent.
Felt the same way. I wanted a Voiceplay song, instead got them as backup singers. Now, of course it sounds good, John is a good singer and VP are amazing, but it was not what I was looking for.

For me, I want more but maybe they just want it to be not much because it will be iritating or uncomfortable to here. Still great cover for Voiceplay
You mentioned waiting to react to PTX Lucky Ones & said you would wait to Monday & then react to the audio only one. I would highly encourage you to watch the Jimmy Fallen version instead as they were not actually live with Jimmy Fallen but did present their full video of the song. They might release the official video next week but if they don't I would definitely say the Jimmy Fallen over the audio only.

As for the song, I wanted more VP rather than just John. He's great, yes, but I'm here for Voiceplay. I was so disappointed that Eli didn't get a solo! Honestly, other than John, the one that shined was Layne. He is amazing and he killed it, both with the harmonies (I love when he sings) and the percussion.
Geoff was too understated imo. But it was his arrangement, so I'm not too surprised. He likes to feature the collab partner the most over himself. Unfortunately. Lol.
You are right, it did look like the Oval Office, haha! Apparently it is some estate house. Super classy. Oh, and Geoff's wife Kathy was their production manager for this, so that's neat.
The patron preview of Sixteen Tons had a little bit after it that I think was filmed as they were leaving the estate. Now I know where it was! I was wondering what was going on. :)
Well, according to a bit of research, I found this website ( www.dansher.com/unchained/unchained.html ) that gives an interesting version of the history of this song, stating it was believed that Al Hibbler may have been the first to sing the song. However, according to wikipedia, William Stirrat was not the author, but was claiming that the name Hy Zaret was his pen name. Obviously, this song is shrouded in mystery and scandal; however, I think we can all agree that it is truly a legendary, timeless classic.

Im slightly dissapointed with this cover as a voiceplay fan.Dont get me wrong,it is still great but i dont get the goosebumps like other songs from them.This particular song is bested by Marc Martel's version according to me...
I imagine the boys were kind of tired when this version was done. It took 2 or 3 shoots as there were some major technical issues with the first one & they had to completely reshoot the video, take 2 had the same issue but at least they caught it before finishing & had to restart all over again. They talked about it on their BTS session on patreon
