No growl, no sub harmonics. Just his natural bass voice.
@@toothless2323 Geoff has a bass voice but he is more comfortable singing in the baritone section which is why he considers himself a bass baritone but geoffs speaking voice is a bass voice
@@hrized6816 no. Actually it’s the other way round. His weight and timber are of a bass baritone (bass baritone is a sub category of baritone that stands for low baritone). If you don’t believe me just listen to any bass like Avi or David Kahn. You will hear how they qualities are different. Fundamentally different. In fact Geoff’s weight and timber is very close to Tim’s, not Avi’s
@@hrized6816 actually you can listen to the guy that Geoff admires that sang 16 tons originally. THAT guy has a much more bass timber
@@hrized6816 anyway I shouldn’t be explain this to you because if you had a good trained ear you could hear the difference in timbers
When he said "step aside" i left the country
I love your comment as much as I loved the one where the guy said his cat heard this and thought he was a lion. Lmbo
Dennis, I see that you're getting your full dosage of bass notes today.
I didn't hear it personally, but I read that Geoff said he stayed in his chest voice all the way through. Either way, the man's a beast! He's so nimble in his vocals. He just bounces around the octaves like a freakin ping pong ball! But he keeps it smooth. He never sounds forced or strained and even at his lowest, he never loses the words. You can always understand him whereas many basses that can hit that note just lose the words. All you really get is the sound. One thing about this pandemic, a lot of the members of our a capella groups have had time to expand their horizons. They sound stronger and rejuvenated. I've always loved this song, but Geoff took it to another level. Great reaction as always! ❤
He said himself all chest notes. Great reaction.
I thought he said himself quote "no subharmonics in this one". Was there something in the premiere chat before the video that missed?
I saw afterwards that at the very end he says "This is all
full voice." So impressive
Top of the food chain...
Still seems humble...
A man of virtue...
You really need to turn captions on for Geoff’s and VoicePlay’s videos. They often put in funny stuff like calling Oogie Boogie’s last note “subterranean” and this one calling that run at the end a “super dramatic bend to a low F#.”
A number of people have recorded the song, but Tennessee Ernie Ford is the one who really made it famous. This is a great version.
Any song with Geoff is lit af
Yep you're right, it's all chest notes. This is probably my favorite thing Geoff has done so far! I love that he used the tools as instruments
In his chest voice, he can span almost 4 octaves. Such great control. His voice is amazing.
@@dmytrotsvyntarnyi799 F#1-B4 (B4 in Oogie Boogie Song) so it's a chest range of 3 octaves and 5 semitones. So nearly 3 and a half octaves😂 this is not human
@@TheRealSchmom B4 in Oogie Boogies song is likely in mixed voice. At least in live performances of Oogie Boogies song it was mixed
@@TheRealSchmom the 100% chest A4 is in the Little mermaid medley right before D5-D1 slide, Geoff confirmed it was chest
@@dmytrotsvyntarnyi799 yes I know that one. But I think in the official video of Oogie Boogie the B4 is chest. But nobody knows. Maybe Geoff has an answer in his new Q&A Video soon xD
His use of tools as instruments kept the integrity of the meaning of the song but he still made it his own. Very well done. I can't stop listening to it. Great reaction as always
And it’s all chest. Confirmed by the man who sang this song (Don’t worry... Ik who he is)
@@bradriley2614 we don’t really know. I would have to listen again and listen if the consistency changed from chest to chest fry, which I personally didn’t hear. I think it’s just chest but since he is sliding down to them and barley hitting, I would say it’s forced/tensed chest voice rather than chest fry. Given that if it were chest fry it would be a rather balanced sound, not like this tensed one.
I love all of this cover. Especially that run. Lovely F#1 bend. (Also check captions for some VoicePlay and Geoff videos- like this one- there are some funny moments)
i love Geoff..i was watching a video of his on how to hit deep bass notes and he shouted out Tim Foust for kinda teaching him how to hit the super low bass growl and "subterran" bass notes..dude is such a nice guy and so humble..he really gives credit where it's due
He hit alot of G#1's and F#1's in this and he hit a Really low chest note aswell that there's a debate about it, He hit either a Eb1 or a F1, either one is still amazing cuz it's his first full chest note below F#1 that wasn't a slide down, and he said himself in the comments that this was all in his chest voice...
Wasnt there also a full chest F1 in Superstition?
And yeah that one controversial note here is an F#1 slided from a brief Eb1, so technically both are correct.
The whole song is in full voice even when he goes really low it's insane!
"Step aside" Dennis, Geoff is coming through your ears...
I've been waiting for you to react to this; knew you would love it. I am seriously addicted to it. My Grampa loved Tennessee Ernie Ford's version of this so the song is special to me anyways but Geoff's version, OMG! I've watched & listened so many times since the Patreon pre-release that I am constantly humming it & even hearing it in my dreams. I love how he used his Dad's old tools and the interaction amongst the Geoff's is so fun. He & Kathy do an amazing job on producing these videos.
This man is LITERALLY NIGHTMARE FUEL
This is by far Geoff best solo yet great reaction 🙂
I actually first heard this song on South Park, of all places, in their Amazon arc
Loved the reactions, you looked so shocked and disconcerted throughout! Those low notes really seemed to terrify you. XD
I may have too many "main" channels I watch to drop in often, but giving you a +1 for your analytics can't hurt.
Good catch about the no subharmonics! I rediscovered VoicePlay the end of last year and consequently Geoff and I have just fallen in love with both. Geoff is incredibly talented, as are all the guys in VP, and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the music and watching other people who have discovered how good they are and Geoff specifically is.
When I watched this premiere he commented that he did it all chest voice
Actually in the background when the hammer hits their are F#1 subharmonics background
Great cover of an almost-forgotten classic by Tennessee Ernie Ford.
You really were looking for the sub-harmonic, but there wasn’t any! I am not shocked it was all chest voice! I am old, so I remember the original (well not clearly, but I remember the tune a little). Geoff is so creative with the concept, and of course, his layering of his vocals and the editing! This is a great video. I’ve seen it a bunch of times, and it still feels like the first time. I always seem to catch something different each time I see all of the vocal groups. I enjoyed your reaction. Speaking of Geoff wanting to be a tenor, remember Tim started out as a tenor, and he has a 5+ octave range! Crazy, right?
Yep, all chest...under that white shirt...his hair gently brushing his shoul...! Ummm, the song, yeah, the song was absolutely awesome!
Roll tide!
Awesome bass
I love the use of mining tools as percussion instruments. His vocals are amazing as always. BYU Vocal Point released a "Dynamite" cover this morning, just so you know. Popular song to cover.
How did you know that was all chest voice and no subharmonics holy crap dude you got a good ear 😂 Yes it’s true confirmed by Geoff himself it’s all chest voice
I don't think I have a very good ear overall but he's my favorite singer so I kind of know his sounds
Yeah I agree he’s my favourite singer too but man that impressed me so much how you caught that good job 👍
Hope all is well brother and things are getting better great post
I believe he uses a growl for some of those lower low notes.
Was waiting for this. Love your reactions ❤️
I obviously need to look up “subharmonic!”
I want to hear him sing Jimmy Deans' " Big Bad John"
I watched the premiere of this he said the whole song was chest voice. Pretty Awesome!
Just wanted to say that the upload quality of your sound is top tier. Two months late, I know...
❤
Nightwish i want my tears back live in Buenos Aries please its amazing
He did that all in chest voice.
with a voice like that it sounds like only one shovel full would weigh 16 tons ...and yes when he said "if you see me coming you better step aside " I am ducking behind my computer
You got it right Dennis, his lows were all chest :) The background bass was an upright bass though, and damn was it groovy.
love the reaction, and roll tide brother!!!!
@@KingFamilyReacts i also have a request, and it’s not like anything you’ve reacted to that i can remember. it’s Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps 2017 show Metamorph. they apart of Drum Corps international which is basically the NFL of marching band
You are quite right. All chest. I loved it and I really enjoy watching your reactions. :)
You are impressive, Dennis. I thought it was much lower than you noticed!
Ayyyyy... new background. I see u. Btw, have u seen the Anime medley that Peter Hollens recorded? It’s so good! Also, react to it with your kids. They might see something very familiar, too.
Tennassee Earny Ford.
Rock on baby
I think im high on music cuz im seeing your background moving
Still voting for Lucy Spraggan, particularly "Sober" and "Run". Think you'll like her.
It's a E#1
Yep I think he didn't use subharmonic in this vid but more of thick low chest note, its like an operatic voice or something but surely no subharmonics here.
Yes all of the notes were chest
Geoff says it in a comment
No subharmonics just chest
Billy Gibbons and Jeff Beck have a great version of this song also.
You should check out O’keefe music Foundation, kids cover songs and they are amazing
So… I understand that you’re almost certainly past looking at the comments for this video. But, here’s the deal. Yes, he and everyone in your comments says that this was all chest. However, as a pretty well trained bass singer, I can tell you that there were 3 subharmonic notes in this song. WALKED TO THE mine, walk the LINE, and step ASIDE. But, for me, the most impressive and hardest to recreate note in this song is the low sixteen TONS near the end. It’s full chest, but weirdly light.
Nope I got it :) And as someone that knows NOTHING technical about singing and vocals I appreciate your insight and comment. :)
He just doesn't look like he would have a voice like that.
2:58 I think that the note in the background a subharmonic note is but i'm not sure.
#RollTide
Where's Christina?? It seems you have more fun with her playing "straight man" to your dad jokes lol
you should react to tim storm if you like lllllooooowwwwww notes.
Hey you know what would be a good song for Jeff castellostee the same is big John
I wonder if anyone, at this point in time, actually knows what the song is trying to tell. Because it is a really sad song.
i have heard it is all chest no sub
Everything was chest!!!
IF im correct, the 3 parts you said they were chest notes, are actually fry notes which uses more throat.
"This is all full voice. Just FYI."
-Geoff Castellucci , 2021, premiere chat at the end
Also, quick tip: You should rebalance the audio for your intro/outro. The music is super loud and jarring when compared to your speaking voice. I'd lower their volume or possibly try to find less... intense music for them. The main part of the video was nice and fun, but going from a 3 to about an 8 in volume and intensity is kinda jarring. Especially since my net cut out for a while and I'd forgotten how much I needed to turn you up to easily hear you speak post-intro.
chest all the way
Geoff castellano 16 tons
When he sings "Step aside" with the low note. Who wouldnt step aside
And to answer your question. Yes itas all chest
It sounds like optimus prime
@@Deers_Reign_Supreme a very small but intimidating optimus prime
@@erictheirishbass6704 Watch his video about singing deeper.
Um, those of us who instantly turn into puddles "couldn't" step aside. :D We wouldn't even try.
