      ( Long text ahead) Or do what my guys in the garage did to my brothers E36, pull out the engine, gearbox, the entire electrical system and the suspension, brakes and steering.
      Once that is done you take apart the engine and gearbox, clean it up, replace worn out parts, new gaskets and put it back together. Once that is done you replace the suspension setup with coil overs and other fun stuff, put in new brakes, a new driveshaft and then tighten up the steering with racing spec sway bars and "stuff".
      Then you rip out all the interior, the entire dashboard and everything else until it's bare metal.
      Then you put in two race seats, a roll cage and thin "sound proofing" that doesn't work really and install only the bare minimum. You put in a speedometer from a motorcycle (because why not) and make a 50 cm long, completely open exhaust that ends behind the front wheels.
      And to top things off you get your hands of a turbo kit. You take the engine out AGAIN and replace a shit ton of parts, install a turbo and intercooler, new cam and lots of other stuff.
      Now about 4 years should have passed. You finally start it. Run a dyno run. Get the result, 789 hp on the rear wheels.
      You call your brother, say it's done. He comes over. Everyone is happy.
      Six months later you flip the car and roll it seven times. It burns down completely. Sigh.
      That's how you own a E36.

    • @fatfuckhatesyou
      @fatfuckhatesyou Před 7 lety +3

      Miguel Martins
      Yes haha it did happen I'm afraid. We had been racing it the entire summer 2013 when it was finally done, I took the wheel and at a little over 190km/h I lost control and off into the potato field I went. Didn't get hurt but all that work just gone.
      Since it was my fault I gave my brother my Nissan 200sx as a "I'm sorry" gift. The life of a car person...

      Sometimes bad motor mounts will make the fan contact something when the engine revs quickly. Check the motor mounts, then do an electric fan conversion. :)

    Old BMW's sound so good and have tons of character that the new one's just lack

    • @SevCars
      @SevCars Před 7 lety +4

      But they break down a lot, rust, feel pretty sluggish handling and consume loads of fuel compared to newer cars. However the looks and the sound remains mint.

    • @blazcigale2762
      @blazcigale2762 Před 7 lety +4

      That's why they are ment to be owned by people who are sensible and have money to keep them running and most of all use them only for joy riding, not putting insane amount of miles every day. That's why we have newer cars. Classics are ment to be cherished and preserved and not owned by a poor teenager who can't even afford to change the oil..

    • @randy438
      @randy438 Před 7 lety +2

      Jones Nobs My E30 has never broken down in the 4 years that I've owned it and it handles better than any other car I've ever driven because it's under 3000 lbs and if I didn't hoon around in it, I could easily get +30 mpg in that thing. Yeah sure it has a little rust underneath but it's also over 30 years old I don't think any car goes that long without a little rust unless it's never driven.

    • @blazcigale2762
      @blazcigale2762 Před 7 lety +3

      Mike Hunt that's luck for you... It sure doesn't mean every old BMW is at the end of it's life, but 70% of them are in front of a major engine overhaul. And if you aren't somone with a deep wallet you should stay the heck away from buying them. Even your car may serve you well now and IF you would sell it to another guy, he might be in line for a serious rebuild after a year of ownership. You never really know when it is going to hit you. The only real thing before purchasing that you could do is listen to the engine and go for a test drive, but that will only tell you if something is seriously wrong right now.
      I agree they are very good cars when they work, but my goal is to warn young people of getting into too deep money pit and then ending without a driving car and money.
      I know how it feels because I was the one who always thought, Oh it's not gonna happen to me I'm gonna get a good runner, this car looks good sounds good, the owner showed me service history.. 9/10 times i got F**ed!
      If daddy pays then I wouldn't worry.. But if it's a student's budget, then you're gonna go broke.

    • @SevCars
      @SevCars Před 7 lety

      Mike Hunt Cool story. But the regulations and fuel economy in the US is seen as a joke in Europe. I know my E46 has cost me loads of random spare parts and maintenance. Rust in the front fenders, rust in the trunk, rust in the bonnet, snapped drive shaft twice, collapsed rear suspension, broken air intake regulator etc. And the mileage is only around 120k miles.. buying the car is usually the easy part. Keeping it running will cost you, especially if you are modifying it as well.

    My (Euro) E36 M3 3.2 have been 100% problem free since I bought it well over a year ago.
    It`s a great car. Still happy I bought it over an E46 M3. The E46 M3 has its issues and faults too. Some really bad/expensive ones (subframe, differential, certain potential engine issues, etc..) most of which the E36 M3 owners don`t need to worry about. Sorry to see how unlucky you have been with your E36 though. I have owned three different E36 models. Not many issues at all. Great cars in my experience. I hope things get better for you in future and the we get to see some E36 love. :)

  • @benjaminrapoza9852

    For the fan constantly breaking check your motor mounts because it may be tilting too far forward

  • @carrot5000
    @carrot5000 Před 7 lety

    one of your engine mounts has become detached. when you revved the engine while stationary, it rotated on the one still attached mount moving your viscous fan into the shroud thus eating it
    change both engine mounts, gearbox mounts and probably the center diff bushing and it should feel excellent!

  • @macthemec
    @macthemec Před 7 lety

    That viscous fan was more if an added levelIf safety against over heating, with a good cooling system (no old brittle parts) and a proper working front fan it shouldnt be an issue.
    Also BMW's have always been known for having long throw transmissions, kind of a nature of the beast.

    The trick with BMW's is to replace systems in their entirety at the same time. Have to replace a leaky coolant sensor? Replace the entire cooling system while you are at it. FCAB's getting sloppy? Go for every piece of rubber in the suspension, front and rear, and don't forget the steering coupling.
