I bought this charger from my local hobby store to charge my quad copters. the kid and the store know how to use but couldn't explain it to me worth a damn. How do you know when the battery is finished charging? does it have an alarm, or do you have to stop it when you see it hit the proper voltage? I purchased one yesterday, and was charging 1s 700mah batteries at 0.7A on the charger. While doing so, it reached the proper voltage (4.2) within 20 min, but continued charging until I hit the stop button several minutes later. I read the manual, but it made no indication of a cut off, or fully charged alarm, but it did mention a safety timer… Am I doing something wrong, or am I just an idiot?
Hey I'm having trouble charging my lipo battery. It is 11.1 volts charge rate is 1.3 and it's a 3 cell battery. When I begin to start charge it shows that it is detecting a 2 cell batter and when I try to charge it says connection break. Tips?
Confused customer, new to RC, and very wary of this charger...hobby store told me it was completely automatic and would not overcharge my battery, but I have very little proof to back this claim up and make me feel ok with it. I was not able to make the charger go into the "Aut" mode for the NiMH charging program described on page 13 section 7.1 of the booklet. Also, since I have only seen "Man" mode... How do I know when to turn off the charger? Do I have to turn it off at a certain time? or will it automatically turn off in "Man" mode? I charged my new Venom 5000mah 7.2V battery at 1C (5A) for just over 60 minutes (it got pretty warm) and the charger showed no signs of stopping after 61 minutes and an indicated "charged capacity of around 5300-5400 (no units?) so I turned it off. Did I just ruin a battery? If I had trusted the sales person would I have started a fire? I thought this charger had "peak detection" but maybe that is protection from peaks in charge amperage/voltage, while it charges, not simply detecting the peak charge and stopping?
+jh45 If you NiMH battery was completely drained it is possible for the charger to put in 5300-5500mAh as the capacity is not always absolute. Generally, we under-rate our batteries, so what you have experienced is normal. A NiMH battery charged at a 1C rate will come of the charger quite hot. This is normal. If the temp concerns you, you can lower the charging amperage slightly (4.0A) and while it will take longer to charge, it will not be as hot coming off the charger. This charger, even in "Manual" mode will automatically peak detect the voltage and shut off automatically. When the charger finishes it will beep 4 times and the screen will show "full". To switch to "Auto" mode, make sure the charger is in NiMH charge mode, then press start once so the amperage is flashing. Now press both the up and down buttons as the same time and hold for a second. It should change the screen to show "Auto". Note that you can still adjust amperage, but what you are adjusting is the maximum allowable charge rate when in auto mode. We don't recommend charging a NiMH over 1C, so you should set that number to 5.0A. The Auto mode only relates to setting the charging amperage and nothing to do with the charge cycle itself. In the 5 years I've worked at this company I've not seen a single Pro charger that overcharged a NiMH battery. As far as timers go, the charger is set to shut a charge off automatically no matter what at 2 hours (120 minutes). You can go in under the user settings and adjust this if you want the charger to auto stop the charge at a shorter time frame. Short answer is, if you were to trust the salesperson, the charger would have shut off. :-)
Thank you so much for the fast response!! After watching the other videos I linked in my second post, I can say I verified it and I felt much more comfortable. I plugged up the battery again...it was done charging in about 5 minutes and the charger automatically finished with the buzzer and a fully charged message in "Man" mode! I wanted to believe the claims at the beginning but I wanted to be safe rather than sorry, and I just needed to know that I was doing things the way they were designed/intended...I am completely happy with the charger and trust it now that I know I am using it properly! I wish that the manual could have told me more about how to tell if I am doing it right or not (things to expect)...it would really ease the mind of safety conscience beginners like me! Maybe just put a link to the video...Anyway, Thanks again! I would definitely recommend the Venom Pro2 charger to anyone!

With NiMH, as a rule, the max charge rate is 1C. so a 5000mAh battery charged at 5.0A would be done in about an hour depending on the health of the NiMH cells. For LiPo packs, some can be charged as high as 5C which allows for charges in less than 15 minutes. But understand that fast charging does come at a cost. The battery will have a diminished lifespan, and higher charge rates will often not give as complete of a charge. If you have the time, we recommend a 1-2C charge rate (if the battery allows for a 2C rate.).

I have 2 questions, 1. is it bad for my battery to be displaying one cell on it is 3 hundredths off, 2. when should I discharge my venom 25c 5000 battery?
When a cell is a bit "out of balance" by comparison to the other batteries in the pack it should be balanced. If that cell refuses to balance it may be an indicator that the cell is bad or starting to go bad. 3 hundredths isn't too bad, but it's getting to the point that it should be balanced. For LiPo batteries, you don't need to discharge them to empty for storage. Your charger should have a "storage"mode. That should be the charge type that you use when you're not going to be using your packs for a while. Don't store your LiPo batteries in a discharged state. It may ruin the batteries.

I have rounded these rates slightly. To calculate a 1 C charge rate, divide you mAh by 1000. In your case that gets you .28. Then, multiply that by the max safe C rate provided by the battery mfg. In this case, 3C max rate, which would get you .84, but since you can't select hundredths of an amp, just round that number accordingly. I hope this helps!

Hello, please could you help me out mate..I want to charge my 8 AA 3500mah batterys, They are all in one pod to be charged tougether each individual batt is 1.2v total 9.6v....I have bought a B6AC 80W charger i know basically how to operate it, but am unsure at what rate to charge the batts at, also not sure what the minimum voltage to set when cyceing or normal discharging..... it says on side of battery (1.2v standard charge 16hrs at 350ma)....please could you advise and maybe help me out mate.....i,m getting to old for absorbing this type of tec....These batts are for my metal detector,, My get me out hobby.lol.. The recommendation that they make on the battery (1.2v 16hrs @ 350ma) is for the individual cells. that's basically an overnight charge at a .35A charge rate. We recommend that you not charge AA rechargeable batteries in a "series" pod because the cells may not have discharged uniformly. If you then go to charge the pack back up and one cell has more energy than the others, that cell may overheat and "vent" which is another way of saying explode. You'll notice that on most high quality AA NiMH chargers that the cells are held individually. That allows the charger to stop the charging process for each cell when it needs it. Can those batteries be charged in the manner you describe, most certainly. It's just not something we recommend for safety reasons.

god I just want to simply have fun with my new toy this is a nightmare , I have a venon pro2 and a 4100 25c 7.4 battery how can I just charge the thing and use it till the jeep stops , any simplified help will be greatly appreciated
+RON EMMONS For your battery, you'd want the charge settings to be set at 2S 7.4v and a 1C charge rate would be 4.1A. You can use the "LiPo Charge" option with those settings to get up and running. If your Jeep has a LiPo low voltage cutoff, the truck will stop before the battery reached 3.0v per cell. Please consult your vehicles manual to find out if your speed control is set up for LiPo usage.
