- The final 6 laps of arguably the most inspirational win in Nascar history when Dale Jr returns to Daytona for the night race just a few months after he lost his father on the same track. With a brilliant call in the booth from Alan Bestwick, this clip includes post-race celebrations, tears, and hugs, plus interviews as broadcast that evening.
Real racing, real cars, real sound. Best drivers. Nascar, take a hint.
No passing for the last 4 or 5 laps because the 8 was so illegal. But your driver won, so its real racing. Then he never won a championship or came close so NASCAR is to blame and his fans left.
@@mattharrell3932 nice try. Not an 8 fan. Was a 20 fan. If he was illegal he wouldn’t have been 6 position with 5 to go. But the sports needs haters. You’re the man.
@@dllockard7324 well I guess us haters is all thats left. 80% of the fans left when Junior couldnt be competitive and couldnt make the chase and playoffs. They blame NASCAR for changing rules and playoff formats, but ultimately, they knew 80% of the fans were Junior fans and they were leaving because he wasnt winning or competing for trophies. So they kept changing the rules to give Jr a chance.
@@mattharrell3932 Dude, why so hung up on Junior? I’m guessing you didn’t like Dale Earnhardt, either. The sport’s over reach on rules and departure from cars that actually resemble their production counterparts is what has caused fans to leave. It’s basically IROC. 20 years ago the racing was awesome. Today? Not so much.
@@mattharrell3932 remember that year Gordan didn't make the chase so they added more slots so he'd be in it?
Till this day, that win gives me chills.
Alan Bestwick is the GOAT of announcers
Hands down. I wish he would come back to Fox or NBC to commentate NASCAR again but damn ESPN snatched him up for SRX.
Mike Joy all day
@@pc88k No offense but Mike is slipping and I think it's about time for him to retire. I can't think of anyone who can take his place now that Bestwick is commentating SRX for ESPN. When Mike retires, Fox will scramble in desperation for a replacement and I'm not sure if there is anyone today that has knowledge like Mike.
@@JustGenius2001 weird I noticed it a lot in 20/21 seasons but these last couple haven’t been too bad
@@pc88k Yeah, I know but he's not getting any younger and I have no clue who can replace Mike. All I know is that we all want a commentator that has NASCAR knowledge on the back of his hand and knows how to do the job right and I can't think of anyone that fits the description so I'm just wondering that should we panic when Mike finally retires?
I worked there back then as part of the security/safety teams. When the race finished, there wasn't a dry eye anywhere. Dale Jr vowed to win that race and did it.
I still get water in my eyes no matter how many times I watch this. Special moment. Lucky to have watched this.
I may have been a little kid when this happened I was 4 years old but as I got older o watched Earnhardt Sr and all his races for so many years then I watched his fatal crash cried like a baby and I saw this afterwards I balled my eyes out rip #3
Dale Jr is so humble. That boy had a ton of weight on his shoulders. He won that race for all the boys at DEI, his sponsors, the NASCAR community and his daddy’s fans. Dale Sr would have been proud! That young man is a class act!
Back when nascar was watchable
Danny "Chocolate" Myers was the first to get to Dale Jr and Mikey Waltrip after the finish. The tears were already flowing from Danny.
Mikey Wallace? Who is Mikey Wallace? It was Michael Waltrip! To have worked there as security you sure do not know who is who!
@@shadowears My spelling error. BTW, Michael Wallace is younger brother of Rusty Wallace. Older brother of Kenny Wallace.
@@sergeantmasson3669 I am aware of that! I know who is who in this sport! Been following it for a long time now! I apologize for causing you to feel like I attacked you!
It was a special night, i know it meant the world to him to win it for his dad. Dale senior was likely smiling down from heaven, so proud of his son.
Just such a magical night. Ill never forget my entire family watching this on a cool night with the windows open in the living room. We only had 2 NASCAR fans out of six in the family but man. Everyone was just so happy that night. Just. so. magical.
I wasn’t born for this but I felt all the emotions. My dad was a huge sr fan was never a huge jr fan but he always tells me that this moment healed almost all the wounds for everything that happened in February
Waltrip was a great personality for the team and a great friend for those around him. Big ups to you Mikey!
Thanks for the memories!
Ditto
This is one of the greatest sports memories I have. Spectacular
With Mikey pushing him to the win.
Dale Jr's "baseball" helmet is now in the NASCAR HOF as is he.
I was wondering where it was, thanks.
Always gives me goosebumps
i remember this live and still get goosebumps watching this now as i did then
Still gives me chills and makes me cry. #3PraiseDale and #8Jr. For the memories!!!
It’s never been the same.
That was one heck of a race!
One of the best races in Daytona. Dale Jr had a cool paint scheme that night too
He is well loved! Just like his dad! 🙏
I'm not crying you're crying
I have a VHS tape of that race that I converted to DVD disc. Most exciting event of working for NASCAR for 10 years. 2001 Daytona 500 was the worst. I with that I could erase the memories from that day.
And just think now that it's on CZcams it will be saved forever
He made the pass in Turn 4…unbelievable and if you wrote it in a script, they’d say it wasn’t possible to happen like that
I sure miss Jr racing...
Emotional win
6:13 Wally Dalenbach Jr with the perfect but adept understatement of the year “pretty cool”
God leave the man alone about his dad.
One of the best races EVER ran right up there with Dale Sr. Win at Talladega right up the middle 16 spots to win Dale Jr. Said it best HE WAS WITH ME tonight the moves did look like his DAD was in the car the only driver I ever saw that could put 10 pounds of junk in a 5 lbs. Bag
Probably the most emotional race of all time.
This quality lool. Can barely see the cars :D Gotta love looking back in time at the tech :) anyway sick race.
What a great family, nascar people too!!!
Let’s talk about Michael coming from 14th on the restart to 2nd in 6 laps
When racing was real ..
I remember watching that race with my dad and saying to him jr is going to win this race he said to me he’s not his father I said to him who u think is in that car with him right now boom jr wins I look at him said rest my case lol great memory
Some say that NASCAR helped Junior win this race. Honestly, I don't know how they would do that but at this point, I don't care what the conspiracy theorists say, this moment will live on forever. R.I.P Dale "The Intimidator" Earnhardt, Sr.🙏
Jr. has said the car was a huge cheater car, but who gives a shit at this point, ya know? I bet a few others in the field were. The sport needed that moment.
@@sprinkle581 Yeah, I agree. Well, the complainers need to let this go. This race is gonna be 22 years old this July so complaining about Junior cheating a race that happened decades ago is absolutely pointless.
You never counted Dale out. If he had a 10th place car he'd finish third. If he had a 5th place car you knew he'd be battling for the win. He was like a Hollywood movie.
Great day.
Nascar gave extra horsepower to junior...the other guys were racing against a stacked deck
Clown
That's when racing was fun.
restrictor plate was a little large that night on the 8 car.
Wearing an open face helmet... just like his daddy ❤😊🎉
that ear, no, I can see them.
I defend this US Navy.
I bring it right back to you stop. right at your door. i'm hungry.
P.s. Tony Stewart should be in jail. ..
Waltrip had a run on jr. I think he gave up the W to jr because that’s what teammates do.
The US was.
US Navy.
It's kind of sad this is back when Dale Earnhardt used to have balls and wanted to win but now he's just a washed-up driver with no balls
He’s retired. Had too many concussions.
lgbqtque
fake molnsters.
I watch that a lot , and that still gives me tears with Dale Junior and Michael Waltrip… I remember back in the 80s DW and Dale Senior were rivals and Darrell Waltrip calls them Frenemies !!
Dale. Jr. Need. To. Come. Back.
Looked just like his daddy in that one
This race was so rigged
Clown

This race was fixed !!
No it wasn’t. The DEI cars were so far ahead of everybody at the plate tracks from 2001-2004
This Comment is so dumb
