  • The Model 41 is considered by many to be the finest and most accurate .22 pistol ever made. In this video, I take some time out to just have a moment with my viewers and talk about this fabulous gun and other things, while enjoying a good cigar and a cold pale ale at the barn with my buddy Benny.

My dad bought his for his 41st birthday in 79. He gave it to me on my 41st. He bought a Bianchi #89 holster to carry it in the field, as have I. Nothing cements your reputation in deer camp like a 25 yard headshot on a grouse in front of your buddies. One of those guns that you swear you hear music when you pull it out.

I also own a Model 41 produced I believe in 1959. Such a great item. I Have the long barrel with muzzle brake in amazing condition, including the original cardboard box. I ordered a new barrel a couple of years ago to gain scope rails as my eyes are getting "mature" and I want to continue shooting. Such a fine example of craftsmanship. I love your rambles, they make me feel like we are old pals sitting by your range. I reload and enjoy your videos when I am unable to be with others sharing the shooting sports. Thank you for your efforts to encourage and support all of us rookies in the gun hobby. God bless.

Benny, I am 71 years old and I also love the model 41. I am an old bullseye target shooter, and I have a large collection of 41’s. I own every barrel that was ever made, and I even own a 41 chambered in .22 short with the barrel weights. SK jag standard plus used to always work well in my 41’s, but it is hard to beat old CCI standard velocity. Glad to hear you love the old 41 also.

I loved my long 41 with its muzzle brake (and a 27) until the UK Gov't took them away in '97. But I'm retired now and live in France, so enjoy shooting again. A 41 is now very expensive so I make do with an old Buckmark, it serves me well (also a nice 19-4) and I like a cold beer on the porch on a sunny afternoon. Now, I haven't enjoyed a cigar with my beer for probably over 40 years, but heck, you are sorely tempting me, it's all about the joie de vivre. Oh yes, and I kept that little muzzle brake :D

I liked the statement the there is no U-Haul be hind the herst. I am at the same stag in life that I have all these treasures that I have carefully cared for and one of these times someone else will own them and most of the "Stuff" is in ;perfect shape. Here is an interesting story that shows the change of times. I was about 15 years old and was showing a lot of success as a pheasant hunter. I was using a Stevens bolt action .410 and was wanting to upgrade in shotguns. I had a after school job and had a little savings so I went in to Montgomery Wards and bought a new Browning Sweet Sixteen 5 shot automatic and no one questioned my purchase. I used it for years have it yet today. Did I mention that I paid the big price of $145. The starting wage was 50 cents an hour for working at the grocery store. the year was 1954. Shocking but enlightening of where we are today.

I have followed you for a very long time. You sir, are a breath of fresh air. From your review of the model 99 Savage all the way to the Smith and Wesson Model 41. Years ago (way back to 1960) my dad bought a Model 41 7" with the muzzle brake and I fell in love with it. For some unknown reason, my dad didn't like semi autos. Now that I'm 73 years old, I still ponder what ever reason he got rid of that pistol. Even at the young age of 13 I fell in love with that pistol. I am so pleased so see a review of this magnificent pistol. As of yet, I don't own one BUT I certainly will someday if Lord doesn't call me home before that Which of course none of this will matter anyway!) But, nevertheless, I want to applaud you for sharing this wonderful time with us, the viewers. I presently live in Kingman Arizona but I would one day love to meet you in person. I am blessed to own for many years serial number 3916, 7 inch, model 41. Yes you are correct about the hook on the safety lever. What a work of art it is, I have carried it in the woods many times, and it still looks like the day it left Smith. I have had better luck with CCI as well, accuracy and trigger are unbelievable and I own High Standards, Woodsmans, Ruger Mark III,etc. but there is no comparison. To hear your description is the same as holding one and shooting it or as close as it is possible to get. God bless all three of you and thank you for many hours of enjoyment and friendship.

GB490 - Nice to see your well. I started with a Russian Volstock. I learned to run it until I was shooting 80's on a 25 yd Slow fire target. I moved to a Ruger and within several weeks, I was shooting high 80's. The owner of the range, one Friday night, we chatted, I showed him my targets. He excused himself and appeared with a Colt Match. Like the S&W 41, the finish was immaculate. I shot a pair of 95 slow fire and finished a 285. I impressed myself. I wish I had the money to buy that, all those years ago. Cheers - an R&J Churchill moment, side of C&R, two fingers and a touch of water.

For a new gun today, I see the prices go between two to five weeks of salary. Powder, primers and bullets just spiked, though it might go down in a year or two. Regular ammo just went up 15 % - 30%. As to the S&W model 41, It is a beautiful and very accurate target pistol. I have had the pleasure of trying it a couple of times. I myself have the Hi- Standard Military. Fantastic pistols for what they are and compete with the best of the Walther`s and Pardini`s. These kind of pistols are not rated for stingers or the likes because of the springs , you may shoot a thousand rounds of hyper velocity ammo and be safe, but shoot standard velocity and you get maybe hundreds of thousands of rounds out of the gun with no problem. Stay safe, I really enjoy your videos.

You're one of the few channels whose videos I rewatch; they're such a wealth of knowledge. Perhaps you could talk about the different shotgun gauges and action types. God bless.

Thanks for such nice videos. I have a model 41 made in 1960. Super accurate, and you are right, it can be finicky abt the ammo it likes. Mine enjoys the old Remington gold tips, any Eley ammo generally works well. CCI stingers usually jam for me.

I have always enjoyed all your videos. Especially the one on gun lubrication. I have three barrels for my model 41. I have red dots and a Burris 3x12-32 on a 7" barrel. I would love to hear you talk about Handgun scopes.

That’s a beautiful 41. Here’s a modest proposal: let’s get together someday. I’ll bring my 41 and six High Standards. If you don’t prefer the HS Olympic 103 in 22 short over the 41, I’ll buy you a box of cigars. The rear sight moves with the slide, but it’s so tight (and low recoil) that it doesn’t make a bit of difference. We’ll do one hand rapid fire and you’ll be sold! Thanks for all the great videos.

That is one beautiful piece!!! These are some of my favorite type of videos you do!! I sure miss going to gun shows and listening to the older guys discuss firearms and hunting with the smell of pipe tobacco in the air!! Now im one of those guys, but the audience has changed these days... Are you into muzzleloading and have you ever made it down to Friendship, Indiana? You obviously enjoy quality and there you will find some of the finest made. You can compete for titles or for enjoyment. Its held twice a year in the spring and fall for 10 days straight. Easy to find guys like you who are so schooled in the art of firearms that are so good to talk with!!

Thank you for another great informative video. I inherited a model 41 when my grandfather passed. I guess mine is around 40 years old high polished with the old style safety that hooks the slide. As far as ammo goes my gun is very broken in and extremely accurate and I find CCI is the only completely reliable ammo in that gun. For some odd reason my grandfather felt the need to scribe his social security number on the beautiful hardwood grips.
