      $15,000? Tell me you know nothing about engineering or manufacturing without telling me you know nothing about engineering and manufacturing.
      Do you know much even 1 plastic injection mold is? Say the mold to make your armrest or radio bezel... one mold could be as much as $500,000. Nevermind massive ones like for a dashboard or something. Keep living in fantasy land thinking cars should be max 15k no matter what it is. Even if you adjust a Model T for inflation it's over $20,000. Those were super basic compared to today's cars with all the tech and safety features etc. Most cars have a dozen airbags these days, even cost on all of those is $1500. Can they build cars for 20k? Sure, but thinking that 20k car is going to look like a Lexus RC-F inside and out is laughable at best. Get your head out of the sand.

    • @Savvynomad225
      @Savvynomad225 Před měsícem +7

      @@derekgardin1512how many cars can one mold be used for? Economies of scale tells me that 500,000 for the mold is paid once to produce millions of instances of a part. Once all the parts are produced, the vehicle gets assembled by mostly robots in an assembly line where the biggest costs are union wages, but I could see where vehicles are produced at a much lower cost when assembled in countries like Mexico with far lower wages than the US. 7800.00? Nah, but 18-20k per unit is feasible. Especially if it’s the same chassis, engine and transmission from previous years. A lot of the costs included in the car prices are for recalls, warranty work and middle man commissions.

A 97 Lexus lx450 with 265,000 miles, a 2005 Toyota Camry xle with about 158,000 miles. All dependable. It's stupid. Make a new bare bones S-15(4x4) pickup with a nice turbo diesel boxer 4 for $15k. Bluetooth speaker system, a cellphone holder, Bluetooth backup camera, and self charging bluetooth TPMS. Use a mechanical ABS like Toyota has on their cheap pickup. Simple utilitarian interior, with an ashtray, decent cup holders, mechanically adjustable seats, mechanical Ebrake, real power steering, pop up door locks, 5 speed manual transmission, with a full size bed.
    No crew cab crap. Make one platform for the people that just want a simple, dead reliable small pickup truck that can fit a piece of plywood in the truck bed.
    We don't need it to haul 20 thousand pounds, or 3 tons in the back. 1000lb capacity is perfectly fine.
    We don't need it to go 150mph. 70 with enough left over to pass someone is fine.
    Give it enough torque to go 70 up a decently steep grade without the turbo kicking in is perfect. In fact give us a button to disable the turbo completely if we are not in a hurry.
    Give people purpose built vehicles again. I want a small commuter car, and a small pickup. I don't want bells and whistles. I will be getting a Tesla model 2 when it comes out. I would love a small pickup also. If that means getting an old S-15/Toyota/Nissan/Ford Ranger and fixing it up then fine. You don't get my money. I'd much rather buy a new small truck..but those don't exist any more.

    I’m 73 years old. My dad was an old shade tree mechanic and he despised Chevy’s and anything built by GM. (I won’t repeat what he would say about those cars!) So I grew up knowing to never buy a GM vehicle. I strayed from that teaching one time. Back in 1982 I bought a brand new Buick. It was a rolling piece of junk! Didn’t keep it very long. Took my losses and traded it for another Toyota!

    While all this loss is going on they are also relocating their Detroit HQ from Renaissance center to a new tower at Hudsons dept store on Woodward ave and spending a $ billion. Meanwhile the core of their operations is north 15 miles in Warren at the technical center. Maybe they should move near there?
    At least the freeways are empty so it’s a 15 minute ride.
