You can tell how happy the Safdie brothers are with this movie. They recall moments of filming like they're recalling vacation with a bunch of friends. The relationships between all the actors are so great.
Uncut gems is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time and my favorite of 2019. I see you, parasite, knives out are up there as well.
I love seeing Idina and Adam casual like this. They seem like very introverted people usually

Funny thing is Safdie brothers were talking explicitly about George Segal in the hot rock & california split in an interview, its clearly stolen from 3 different films, Bad Lieutenant , the Hot Rock & California Split. I guess young filmmakers think of it today as sampling??, as in music? clearly originality is dead here,..sampling went to court & resulted in royalties, I have zero respect for such blatant plagiarism , SMH

This film was one of the best to come out this year, and the Safdie Brothers are definitely on everyone's radar now.

The Cat dude has symmetrical features that signal attractiveness. I don’t think anyone would ever look at him as “hot”, but when you look at his face there isn’t anything weird or disfigured with it, therefore it’s comforting, and it’s not too sharp or gorgeous so that you feel lesser than him, he feels like a friendly face. A seat in your favorite chair from your childhood home, by the fire on Christmas Eve, the smell of pine and good times, the itch of good things to come. I don’t know bro, fine the dudes hot but I’m a straight man there’s nothing wrong with that idk I gotta go.
It's his energy. His features aren't classic good looks but they are super expressive and the camera loves that. It's more interesting than a perfect pretty face with no soul behind it.
