- The studio formerly known as Irrational Games is now called Ghost Story. We’ve set out on a new project. This video from Ken Levine’s 2014 GDC talk explains the high-level concept that served as the catalyst for the game we’re working on.

A hint of a new game would be nice Ken. Wtf? Did infinite really kill u?

@@imperfect_dan7519 Well now you know
You made my day! Irrational games created a lot of little masterpieces like the Bioshock series ,Infinite it's actually my favourite game, so I'm sure that Ghost Story will create real art too! C'mon Ghost Story i'll support you always!
Thank you!
will the new games u guys make be narratively powerful like bioshock with more meaningful choice? or something totally new?
Will you make another Bioshock?
@@SuzukiYNathie, no. Another studio will do it. Ken Levine wants to do something completely new for him.
(I don't speak English. Translated by google translator.)
"Not a design for a specific game"
**Judas comes out with the faction system he talks about**
That is so irrational
LEL
The boss is back
Judas is probably gonna be awesome going by what ken said in this talk, that faction system is gonna be great in the game
We. Need. News. Come on Ken!
I don't care what Kevin Levine makes. I just know it's going to be genius!
It's been 84 years...
😑
Actually just 4
So Irrational Games is now called Ghost Story ... okay ...
yeah after that Coldplay song
Che Guevara It's technically a new company, just with the same crew. Hencemthe name change.
Still Waiting Ken!
Its already 2021

Hell yeah
I really appreciate the creativity fueling Ken Levine to want to make a truley immersive and groundbreaking gaming experience. But I feel like a response to the Bloomberg article is necessary, it really doesn't look good when developers are saying that they were verbally browbeaten and chewed out in front of everyone. After spending almost ten years working on a game that was supposed to come out in 2017. I'm still a fan and I love Bioshock 1 and infinite and look forward to the next game whenever it gets announced. But I hope we can see something soon, I'm sure it'll be brilliant
7 years later...
Now it's a small team, but in the next times it will be the biggest team ever
I think everyone who's played them can agree that the Bioshock series was impactful to them. I'm not necessarily hoping for a sequel to Infinite, or Bioshock in general, but I think that there's definitely a pressure on Ken and Ghost Story to top what they did in that series. Eventually we'll see something new from this studio, and hopefully it lives up to the expectations that their other games have given us. That said, this talk is old as the hills I'm really hoping they put out some kind of news soon...
I'll support anything from Ken Levine and his studio/team these people are the geniuses of the industry.
I can't wait for the new BioShock.
Yay, i'm glad you're back. I can't wait until your new game released. Your games always give something new and fresh to the gamers. Wishes the best for Ghost Story in the future.
we still wait for your next games. hope u on working
What would be nice: to have some of the Stars have interactions with each other completely or only losely related to the players actions. Like in Game of Thrones: the story is not only driven by Cersei but also by the actions of the other characters. So maybe things happen between characters that were beyond the players control or influence and still shape the world. That would be very, very hard to make, I suppose, but feeling as though I'm not the only person to influence the world (as in: I'm the only one actively doing stuff, everybody else is just sitting around or waiting for my orders) would really add to the feeling of realism.
For example: I refuse to kill someone for one the Stars - so he goes and does it himself. And depending on what I've done for him to help him prepare he makes it out alive or not.
Hey guys.
Hope you're doing good.
Can't wait for your new game.
couldnt be more excited about the new project you are working on!!
I'm excited to see what's to come!
It's good to know that this guy hasn't diappeared forever and keeps giving the gaming world fantastic ideas! I'm looking forward to what this might become!
welcome ghost story! \(^.^)/
I could listen to this man talk all day!
When that notification bell rings for subs about news or even a reveal - that shock to my system will be profound... I hope I will not be driving at that moment.
You just made my day, I have utmost respect to whoever worked on my favorite games of all time.
I wish you the best luck on your next project.
"Booker, you there? I miss you. You were the only one who ever... you were my only friend. Booker?"

Can't wait to feel empty inside when I finish a game made from you guys again. You all are my fav developer
I appreciate the focus on making vast improvements on narrative and characters but I hope he puts as much focus into atmospheric sound design and gameplay mechanics design future game projects.
With all these ideas. I can only imagine the kind of game you guys are up to. Looking sooo forward to it!
A joy to listen to. Thanks, G.
Loving the Bioshock collection on Ps4 . I can not wait to see what those brilliant minds come up with next. FPS games are so bland. BioShock showed me something i have not seen in other games. the world they created felt real and vivid. The game haunted my mind in the best way possible.
Ken has to be one of my favorite game devs. I’m in high school and I would love to work for this guy on day to learn about how he made so many great stories. I hope after I finish high school I can work for ghost story.
This sounds amazing!
I hope we hear something from them this year sometime. 🤞
we just did!!!!
@@jimmyjames2620 so hyped!
I just finished burial at sea episodes 1 and 2 and, for those of you who are prior bioshock workers, infinite and burial at sea were phenomenal. I loved the game and the level of depth and sheer narrative care was and is amazing. When Elizabeth or booker are separated from each other, their connection and need for each other is very prominent which, in my eyes, was great. In short, you guys and gals made a great game and thank you so much for the joy it provided me. I’m excited to see what you people do next. Good luck
He’s so damn similar to Michael Scott
Hell yeah! Can’t wait for your next game
Miss you Ken, hope all is well. Huge huge fan.
3 years of radio silence.
I watched this presentation like 5 times already hehehe. I'm so excited about your new game, I can't wait!
We wanna a trailer for this project
This all sounds greaat! I hope to find this kind of stuff in their next game :)
whatever you guys are making, it's gonna be damn good. that's what im feeling right now.
Ура! Аве Кен Левин!

I saw this video awhile back and ever since I've been thinking how this concept could be used in a horror scenario. Ken Levine is still an idol to me and I would love to work under him once I get my bfa in game design, character modeling
I am more confident in Irrational/Ghost Story than any other development studio to create a truly player-driven, repayable video game experience. I love your commitment to story telling, your bold initiative to think outside-of-the-box, and the care with which you treat your community!
Loved this talk, hope to hear more from your studio soon! Such an interesting talk about game design. I've been trying to come up with a similar structure for a game and this really excited me and inspired me.
I love all your recent work, guys! Keep it up ❤️

I hope they continue to grow as a studio and bring more success as bioshock infinite, I really think they deserve all the support and I hope the release of more games like the one I mention before it was incredible. Greetings from Argentina
can't wait for another game! can't wait! I love elizabeth!
Holy shiiiiii I was still subscribed to them
The way he talks about nerrative makes me thing of a strange little gem called Pathologic. It's kind of a RPG/survival game where certain events can happen in the world at any time, and if the player doesn't witness them then the player won't be able to go back and see it. While wandering the world one time, I came across a group of villagers burning a girl at the stake, calling her a witch. It added to the atmosphere of the game, and helped sell it as living, because if I wasn't in that specific area at that specific time, I would have missed it.
New triple A games? Sign me in!
Interesting, I look forward to seeing what you guys are up to. I'm a huge fan of games like Mount & Blade, XCOM, Rimworld, etc so the idea of player generated storytelling is exciting. Coop sounds great too.
Ken Levine you legend
Ah yes, the big daddy is back
Any day now...

I'm excited to see whatever's on the way :) I've been missing bioshock (infinite specifically) a lot recently, so it gives me hope that there will be more from my favourite developers!
Despite its flaws I enjoyed Bioshock Infinite, I hope this guy continue to make epic games in new studio!
When will we hear about new game Ken Levine and his studio is doing,i love all games they did,it's kinda sad not to hear anything about what they are doing.
He said he didn’t want to show to anything until the game was practiclly done, he doesn’t like the pressure of people knowing
PRAISE OUR LORD KEN LEVINE.. welcome back
YEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
I'M SO HAPPY!
This game is gonna be the best
I just realized this was irrational games... i just a little late
OH MY GOOOOOD
Please give us something to hold out hope for this studio
Done
LET'S MAKE HISTORY AGAIN!
Ken Levine with his games like Nolan or Kubrick with their movies. My mind will blow again... soon.... i hope :))))))
Failed to mention Sony Santa Monica; Cory Barlog has restored faith in my experience with an ‘x’ and ‘y’ narrative experience. That said Ken, analysis paralysis is equally as risky with branching narrative
You should have Elizabeth lead the talk "Constants and Variables" I guess whole talk went over my head because I just hear about introducing hierarchy driven variables to exponentially increase number of narrative results, but I love to hear talk man who is behind the games I love.
so how's it going over there? We know you have an immersive sim but it'd be nice to get a glimpse
Wow!
The archetypes, like the hero, or the mother, etc could be good starts for thematically driven narratives that stem from the micro. Well it's possible - it would require an interaction of sub passions that happen between npc's to enforce a collective unconscious of somesort. Limited of course, but this could lead quests creating themselves, with characters being driven to murder, or cheating, or acting with heroism. The player interactions are more important, but I could see this adding a lot more variety, creating (I hate to say it - a living breathing believable world). It would be so interesting seeing how different archetypes and personalities intermingle. Quests flow to you from people asking for help, people being drawn to thievery through their actions. However there would have to be modifiers like forgiveness, or a threshold so that people don't just fucking murder everyone once the tensions built up 30 hours into the game.
Man what I'd do to peek into what you guys are cooking.
I'm just going to take a moment to say.... I FUCKING LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!
Please bring back the immersive sim genre.
38:16 the unavoidable Skyrim joke...
Not gonna lie... the lazy PowerPoint made me laugh a little. Still interested in whatever you guys have planned though.
So, a kind of emergent narrative based on a highly interconnected and granular karma system? Sounds interesting. Also, loved the analogy of early physics to describe this approach to AI
Also I did recoil a bit at the 'no win condition' thing, it's something that made me skeptical of Crusader Kings; I like to have something concrete to work towards, and dislike feeling like developers put the burden of crafting an experience on me as a player. But then I thought of The Stanley Parable, and the 'events' idea immediately clicked. Even though they're less organic, you still replay The Stanley Parable primarily to see the different events that you can trigger along the way.
The 'zero sum' part was also a great answer to the guy's question of how you can more or less incentivize making important characters dislike the player. It is frustrating in a game like Skyrim how you can go around, become best friends with everybody, and then arbitrarily choose a point later in the game to make a binary choice of what faction you side with. Becomes far less entertaining after one playthrough
@@NocturnalNick "I like to have something concrete to work towards..."
Exactly how I think. If a game doesn't have that I always either don't start playing or lose interest really quickly.
Damn how do I find this just now hope progress on the game is going well guys
