  • Sometimes the best location for a bat house is on its own free standing post. Lori and Sage discuss key points as they choose a site, prep a mount kit, attach a ColonyLodge bat house, and set the post in the right orientation. For more micro siting considerations and installation tips, download our manuals at www.batmanagement.com
The ColonyLodge bat house contains four wooden roost chambers protected by a thick plastic exterior for low maintenance and superior long life. The post in this video is two- 2''x6''x16' PT sandwiched together to make a single 4''x6''x16' post that better resists warping. The post is actually made with a hinge bolt that allows it to pivot to the ground; this is discussed in another video. BCM has been studying bat houses since the 1990's, ships bat houses nationwide, and is available for installations.

Putting varish on the extra roost area is not recommended, most info sites.

You say in the description that you go into detail about the pole's hinge pin, but don't see another video about that. Could you describe the process there? Or link the video?

    Good idea 👍🏽
I’ll be putting about 4 on my property, I have 4.2 acres, do you know if that’s ok? Or too many? I’ve wondered if food source would be a problem? I heard they eat thousands of insects. I would space them fairly away from each other.
I’m trying to control insect populations to improve my vegetation. I already have 3 nice birdhouses my father-in-law made.
I also got an idea on the post from a diy video I found when searching how to make a flagpole. It might give other viewers an idea.

Hey I know the comment is a year but I believe it’s one for every 10 acres

Good to know 👍🏼 I only put one and I was going to put up my second one, but now I won’t.

For what it's worth, wood into concrete will rot the wood all the same. Concrete is very porous.

Hardest part now is buying the pole, man they are expensive.

A 4x6x16 will cost about $60; you can also fasten two 2x6x16' together with deck screws (the 2x6 are more readily available)
