Inside Mr Xabi Alonso’s Impressive Watch Collection | MR PORTER

- Meet Mr Xabi Alonso, one of the world’s most decorated footballers, a MR PORTER Style Council member - and an enthusiastic collector of fine watches. To mark the arrival of IWC Schaffhausen on MR PORTER, we travelled to Munich to spend a day off with Mr Alonso.
We accompany him as he takes a drive in a classic Porsche 356, walks his British bulldog in the woods, makes a snack for his kids when they return from school, and gets ready to go out for dinner with his wife.
In the film he talks through some of his watch collection and explains how each piece commemorates a landmark life event - from winning the World Cup, European Championship (twice) and Champions League (twice) to getting married (once).

Xabi and Pirlo are the most classy players. Stylish and elegant, both on and off the pitch.
Believe it or not my dad sold him one of these. He works for a shop in the Burlington arcade watches that specialises in IWC for the not part. I'm personally so proud to have his autograph such a humble and nice guy, not to mention being an absolute legend of the game.
The production value of these videos made by Mr Porter just blows my mind. They look so minimal, have a soothing tone and still look so elegant and sophisticated.
I would kill to know their set up for filming these videos! they look so gorgeous and beautiful, huge credit to the DP that pulls the look off.

Definitely true that it's about technique and clever editing. But you can't tell me they aren't using state of the art gear here. The image quality is so sharp and dynamic, probably an Alexa I'm guessing.
I love his comment about having “nice things, not too showy, and not to draw too much attention”. So perfect and so much class. I can’t help but contrast the typical blinged-out AP or Rolex wearer that I occasionally come across.
He will always be there in the heart of every football fan. We really miss him in Real Madrid midfield.
