*Barry, NOOOOO* If hot oil got on your poncho it would melt immediately and possibly burn you worse because the plastic would attach to your skin! I've seen that happen in a restaurant I worked at involving plastic gloves.
Agreed and ALL because of Chemistry.
Tender Sheep I’ve worked in a commercial kitchen before and workplace health and safety states that your clothing can’t wear clothes that contain a certain percentage of polyester for they same reason. It melts, then sticks to your skin causing severe burns that is hard to get off your skin. Kinda like melted sugar or caramel
@@theoargyros3618 precisely. Seeing this person with melted gloves stuck to his badly burned hand was TERRIFYING! I have had bad burns (I'm scarred from 200°F cheese splatter) but nothing like that.
Bumping this up so Barry sees it. Have the scars still from a splash back onto plastic gloves. It's painful AF and if you try to peel the hot, oily plastic off, you pull the skin off too. Not good.
@@MrsInAbox that's exactly what happened. They attempted to wash the plastic off and it didn't work. He had to undergo surgery to get it off and cleaned.
Well this was another epic challenge! It kind of reminded me of a massive savoury potato cake at the end! Just to say the water was for my hands guys if I dunked them in oil, I have an extinguisher in the kitchen! To have a Barrathon and watch more giant foods, check out the giant food playlist here czcams.com/video/rYGK6ICT72A/video.html
My Virgin Kitchen the drill would work much better with a spade type drill bit
Also, good use of 'The Entertainer', one of my favourite songs from the 20's.❤😊
Was the cold water for fire safety? Dont use water on an oil fire! It makes it worse. Invest in a fire blanket or CO2 fire extinguisher!
@@SiRxCaLuMxDuDe Maybe for dipping his hands in, or to put on himself, not on a fire.
How did you do that what a big potato you are so creative.
Oil fires and water are a very bad combo. Don't wear plastic clothing! Fun to watch but please learn more about safety when it comes to cooking with oil!!
Always have baking soda on hand, it's a better way to fight grease fires.
Please everyone like this and make it a popular comment!!!
Baking soda isn't really an option in the UK, you can only buy it in tiny containers.
The recommended action in the UK is to drape a ring out damp cloth over the flame, if it is safe to do so.
If that's unsafe or if the flame is not immediately extinguished, evacuate the building and call 999 for the fire brigade.
Cut off the gas or electricity if possible without additional risk.
Judging from the fact it was ice water I think it was in case of a burn, it's very common knowledge that oil + water is not good, he even says that in the video
if you look at the other comments Barry himself explains that the bowl was just for his fingers.
Edit: the plastic poncho however haha
Dont wear PLASTIC working around hot oil.
Here's a tip for peeling a load of potatoes with a power drill. Get a toilet brush (a new one obviously), file down the end so it'll fit in your drill chuck. Put the potatoes in a bucket full of water where they have enough room to move about and then put the brush in and spin it up. works a bloody treat.
The best part of this video is Barry’s drawings
So many Thors but no Human Torch when Barry says "Flame on" at 5:10. Johnny Storm is disappointed.
Somebody probably already said, you should wear safety glasses (like the lab thing)! The oil could splash more than did. /o/
Mrs Barry: YOU MADE A GIANT CHIP?
Me: oh boy he is in trouble
Mrs Barry: THAT'S COOL
man you got a keeper
After going trough the comments I realise you all think that he has that bowl of water to put out a possible grease fire but have you thought of the fact he would probaly use it to cool a possible burn on himself? Anyway nice work Barry! Keep up the good work and greetings from The Netherlands!!
Giant kinder bueno. Ppplleeeaasseeee. Ill buy the ingredients i swear
Barry (at the end ) : do not try this at home
Me : you could have told me that before now that my kitchen is in flames
I’m just picturing Mrs. B coming home and rounding the corner and seeing Barry in his frying clothes 😆😆😆 Never a full moment huh Mrs. B!
I think this was my favorite giant food video you've made! (maybe because I like fries...) I'm glad it turned out so well.
Also can I just say I've been watching your videos for a few months now and your camera work is so nice aaa
While you were forming the mash into the fry, that line from Close Encounters of the Third Kind kept playing in my head. 😂😂😂 “This means something!” 😂😂😂
I never expected to see a British man trying to fry a large french fries in a plastic tuxedo/penguin poncho; but hey, that's the internet
Barry...if you was thinking of throwing water on a grease fire I would be sorely disappointed in you! You add baking soda to a grease fire and not water, you wanna smother the fire, not spread it.
that might have been for his hands if his hands burned, just sayin'
Flour can work too!
I think the water was there for first aid, if needed, not to douse any flames.
If you are cooking with oil and it catches fire, NEVER be tempted to throw water on it. The water will boil instantly on contact, and the steam will throw a cloud of burning oil everywhere, including you. Instead, Turn the heat off, and, using a tea towel which you have wetted, and wrung out so that it is just damp, cover the burning pan with it so that the air is cut off from the fire, smothering it. Hold the towel in front of you in a way that it is between you and any flames, and lay it over the pan so that it is completely covered. Leave the cloth over the pan for at least five whole minutes. Don't be tempted to remove it before then - the oil might still be hot enough to flash up again. The cloth won't burn as it is damp. Cody, of the brilliant channel 'Cody's Lab' made a rig to demonstrate safely what happens if water is poured on to burning cooking oil. The resulting fireball is frightening. He did his experiment outdoors, and it shows just how lethal it would be if it happened indoors.
@@TheInescapableFen I don't recommend that so close to a naked flame...
Oh my gosh! Bodger and Badger was the best programme growing up. My mum and I used to always say the 'mashed potatoes!' catchphrase as a reaction to literally anything in the end. Except, at some point it got changed to 'Scary potatoes' which wasn't even a thing, one of us just made it up... I still accidentally say it to people other than my mum sometimes and they think I'm so strange, haha. The theme tune is going round and round in my head now...
CZcams recommended me the "best chips ever" video last week, and I watched it again.
*_IT KNEW!!!_*
Your reaction when that thing slipped out of your hand... Glorious! Watched it back 10 times!
If you want a more solid, homogeneous, and bonded fry/chip you could always blend potatoes with some water and boil slightly. Sieve the mixture and let it set.
The starch will separate and congeal. Mixing that with your mash will make it crisp and bond a lot better. Might even be able to bake it then.
should've said "it was scary but we sur-fry-ved" at the end lol
anyway, love it (and I basically live on chips so it's especially good if I give it a thumbs up)
iamdb1990 lol
Nah, he will keep that for when he makes a special stir fry dish.
One thing I love is you can't watch your videos in a bad mood 😂 your laughing as soon as the videos start playing 😊 good on you Barry!
The flying Thors in this made me chuckle, he looked so sassy.
I cannot thank you enough for having subtitles!
Also you’re making me hungry!
Really hope you didn't thow away the skins! You can bake them in the oven and you get the most beautyful crispy skin chips... Also you can freeze them and cook them whenever you want. Love the channel, you really cheer up my day!
They changed the rules about what you have to do to set a record with giant food, now it needs to be fit for consumption and a significant portion of it actually has to be consumed.
Barry, it's good that you didn't have to use the water. Water on an oil fire is the worst thing you can do :/
It was just for my fingers I have an extinguisher too but was more worried about dipping them in the oil
@@mrbarrylewis what a relief! Maybe add that in next time so people don't think water is good for a grease fire.
i was pretty terrified he was going to throw water on an oil fire...
You are such a joy to watch, I’m bedridden and not well, thank you so much because you make my day so much better. You are so darn funny, keep up ur videos ❤️😍 Of course I cant make your recipes but really enjoy watching you eat them all, 😂😂😂❤️
That hot oil splash dance was so funny.
But glad u had a trash bag protection thingy
thank you for risking life and limb, for us Barry. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year :) Peace ,Regards, and Best Wishes.
you had me hooked as soon as you pulled out the plan in the notebook
So... to all you guys freaking out in the comments about the water, he said "ice cold" I feel like that's if he gets burned, not if a fire starts.
I actually use my electric drill A LOT in the kitchen.
Try this:
You need some kind of fork, which you can put into the drill instead of this one round thing. The reason for that is because one round thing (I dont know the word) can not hold a potato correct when you put pressure on it.
A fork (or something familiar) can, because it holds the potato on certain spots and THEN it could work!
I use the electric drill when I make carrot salad:
- electric drill
- fork for the electric drill
- spiral cutter
- carrots
dressing:
- apple vinegar
- sunflower oil
- honey
- salt and pepper
- dill
use the electric drill and the fork to hold a carrot. use the electric drill with the spiral cutter to cut thin spirals from the carrot. mix the dressing-ingredients and the carrot together and you have a nice salad :)
I’ve been watching a lot of your videos to catch up on all I’ve missed because I just find your channel and I’m loving all of it! This was amazing. Keep up the great work!
I was already craving chips.. and now I crave them so much more!
i'd use natural selection to breed giant potatos. so that i can grow one giant potato with which to make giant chips out of. but then the giatn potatos will come to life, take over the planet and enslave the human race. so i think i'll just leave it.
Your a genius! Hands down favorite CZcams chef.
Why at 9:45 when Barry was moulding the chip speed up did it sound like a sim cooking in the kitchen ? And why did it give me joy? 🤷🏻♀️😂
You also need to wear a labcoat or something that doesn't catch fire as quickly as a plastic poncho. those ponchos are good for one thing: keeping you dry in the rain. Labcoats, safety goggles, gloves. That's 1/3 you got, Barry. Safety is never a joke! The potato may be fried, but you'd be toast.
Definitely my favourite video yet! Keep up with all the fantastic ideas Barry 👍🏻😁
The birth of the grand Seal moments in giant food videos
I used to love watching bodger and badger 😀 amazing show! That chip looks delicious 😊
I love all the back to the future references in your channel
If you're wanting to use the starch to hold it together, then boiling is better than baking. Higher temperature is used for baking, and that converts more of the starch to sugar.
When adding things on a fryer always put them in slowly by leaning them away from you. Basically, you should've put one of the ends in and then slowly lean it away until it was resting on the side.
The numbers on your drill aren't for speed (that's what you have the trigger and mayhaps a gear selector for), but the force at which it starts to slip, to avoid damage to screw heads and such. Also, for peeling anything with your drill, I'd suggest making a trident-like bit that you can spear things on.
Barry, you could take those potato skins, drench it with a bit of oil, salt, and pepper, and fry it on your air fryer, and you got potato skin chips. It's super good and crispy.
10 out of 10 - NEED TO TRY THIS MYSELF! Looks super YummY!!! Congrats Barry!!!!
This is crazy amazing.
Getting "mad scientist" vibes here..."Don't worry about me", he says. LOL! (3 words come to mind: Grilled Cheese Toaster.)
I absolutely LOVE how this came out though! Congrats on safely making it happen! 👏😊
Lol, Barry your speed dial on your drill is actually a torque setting has no bearing on speed, but love your videos
I'd say it's more of a giant croquette than a chip. Good effort though
That's what I was thinking - but don't croquettes have onion in them?
@@joannegray5138 Quite possibly, I don't think I've had one with onion in though. The ones I had were just like mashed potato with a fried coating
@@Andyw00Hall Yep. Croquette potatoes are normally just mash, but I usually add a bit of egg to help them keep their shape...... Big difference is that Croquettes are then bread-crumbed..... This wasn't so I'm kind of on the fence as to whether it qualifrys (🙄) as a chip or not...... Brilliant fun though!!
@@akc5150 I see what you mean it's a tough call really.
Its still just a very large fried potato which looked fun and dangerous to make
Pommes Duchesse is what I'd call it
4:24 your dogs are the cutest pugs I've ever seen 💕 they are sooooo unbelievable ❤️
Regarding mashed potato frosting, I made meatloaf cupcakes with mashed potato frosting. It was amazing!
Looks so good
Love the editing of this video! Thumbs up!
Here's a trick to mash potatoes,I learned from a former manager: Use an electric hand mixer with egg beater attachments. It's WAY quicker.
when frying foods in oil one must wear layers of plastic Barry logic. love it
If you want to do something like this at a smaller and more manageable scale, you could make deep fried mashed potato bites (I just made some today at the group home where I work, in fact). It's great for leftovers... take mashed potatoes, mix in cheese, spices, beaten egg and whatever other ingredients you want, roll in bread crumbs and then fry until golden brown.
Loved it!
Love your enthusiasm! As long as you're having fun, clean up after yourself and are safe, go for it!👍😄🍟❤
Great Barry. Now you need to make a giant fish.
That was terrifying! You go all out for these BIG cooks.
Barry the settings on the drill aren’t for speed they’re for torque
/ clutch settings...
Your little puggles are soooo precious! *squeals* 💗
I think a spade bit would work really well for securing the potato on the drill. Love your videos, dude!
Is it a bad day when you ask your 3 year old daughter what she wants to watch and she keeps saying giant chip 😂 even thou we watch Barry all day 😂 she seems to love watching Barry rather than cartoons x
Brilliant video as always Barry lad
Love it!!!! I want chips now.
Bodger and badger.😊
Those were the days.....
Everybody knows, Badger loves.....
Omgoodness 🥺 Amy's sweet, precious face! 🥰
Barry's face proud of his giant french fry at 16:38 are serious life goals hahaha
awww, lovely! You are the best!
I love your fridge so much! It's my dream one!😂
M8 I have to say you actually made a big Johnny cake. It is a southern tradition in America. We love em. I'm glad you could try one.
FYI never use water on a grease fire, that is the fastest way to burn your kitchen down. use flour or baking soda (bicarbonate soda) or a dish towel. but that looked really good well done i always love your Giant food videos.
Awesome stuff!! X
You're crazy☺. Thanks for your vids!
absouletly love your vids. This is massive :o and crazy big
OMG Barry, my mouth is watering !!!
My dad was a chef and spilled hot oil on his arm and need several skin grafts surgeries. Hot oil is no joke. Glad you went out of your way to show the safety of it.
Not really... he's wearing plastic and has a bowl of cold water 'in case something goes wrong'. If something went wrong he'd have burned down the house with a fireball (water over oil fire = explosion) and he'd be in hospital with the plastic fused to his skin...
Haekathe I think the water was in case of him burning his hand. I could be wrong I'm just going off the fact that he said ice cold water.
Barry!! Your talent is MUCH bigger than that huge chip 👌🌌🌌🌌👏👏👏😁
10:41 marty McFry?
TheMetalMaan yeah 😂
Loved the back to the future reference at 10:40
Wow I'm old...
Nice one Barry...I can see you saying “l only have fries for you” to the lovely Mrs. B!
Looks like a huge knish or croquet. Delicious either way
The whole point of chilling the potatoe in the 3 times cooked chips is to remove as much moisture from the surface, that's why you put them in the fridge not the freezer.......the fridge is very dry, you want the moisture to evaporated from the surface not freeze.
😂 You made my morning much better!!!✌😘 i would totally cook those skins and eat them with melted cheese!!! Yum!
now you gave me a very fun idea, thank you
Please do a video where you tries different hacks that brands uses in food-comercials!! I would love to se that! ❤️
I love your video they make me laugh x
8:09 made me laugh way too hard... it's the noises combined with the sped up mashing
The numbers arent the speed but the maximum torque value. 1 being the smallest torque until the clutch disengages, 13 being the highest. The speed is controlled by your finger pressur and often you can also find a switch on top switching between 1 and 2, 2 being the highest speed. The drill sign locks the clutch, so you have no risk that your clutch slips while drilling.
Your wife Is the only woman which can come home after a long day, see her husband in poncho and wielding gloves frying giant piece of godknowswhat and say without irony: "wow, thats cool."
God bless that woman.
Awee great!!, now I'm hungry for a giant chip!!
i am so glad that this worked out
Love your CHANELLLL
i’m amazed this only took one attempt
"Hey, do you want any chips?"
"Eh, I may pinch one...."
*Decides To Makes This*
My goodnes Barry, Woww!! That is awesome !!
