*Barry, NOOOOO* If hot oil got on your poncho it would melt immediately and possibly burn you worse because the plastic would attach to your skin! I've seen that happen in a restaurant I worked at involving plastic gloves.

Tender Sheep I’ve worked in a commercial kitchen before and workplace health and safety states that your clothing can’t wear clothes that contain a certain percentage of polyester for they same reason. It melts, then sticks to your skin causing severe burns that is hard to get off your skin. Kinda like melted sugar or caramel

Baking soda isn't really an option in the UK, you can only buy it in tiny containers.
The recommended action in the UK is to drape a ring out damp cloth over the flame, if it is safe to do so.
If that's unsafe or if the flame is not immediately extinguished, evacuate the building and call 999 for the fire brigade.
Cut off the gas or electricity if possible without additional risk.

Put the potatoes in a bucket full of water where they have enough room to move about and then put the brush in and spin it up. works a bloody treat.

If you are cooking with oil and it catches fire, NEVER be tempted to throw water on it. The water will boil instantly on contact, and the steam will throw a cloud of burning oil everywhere, including you. Instead, Turn the heat off, and, using a tea towel which you have wetted, and wrung out so that it is just damp, cover the burning pan with it so that the air is cut off from the fire, smothering it. Hold the towel in front of you in a way that it is between you and any flames, and lay it over the pan so that it is completely covered. Leave the cloth over the pan for at least five whole minutes. Don't be tempted to remove it before then - the oil might still be hot enough to flash up again. The cloth won't burn as it is damp. Cody, of the brilliant channel 'Cody's Lab' made a rig to demonstrate safely what happens if water is poured on to burning cooking oil. The resulting fireball is frightening. He did his experiment outdoors, and it shows just how lethal it would be if it happened indoors.

If you want a more solid, homogeneous, and bonded fry/chip you could always blend potatoes with some water and boil slightly. Sieve the mixture and let it set.
The starch will separate and congeal. Mixing that with your mash will make it crisp and bond a lot better. Might even be able to bake it then.

I actually use my electric drill A LOT in the kitchen.
    Try this:
You need some kind of fork, which you can put into the drill instead of this one round thing. The reason for that is because one round thing (I dont know the word) can not hold a potato correct when you put pressure on it.
A fork (or something familiar) can, because it holds the potato on certain spots and THEN it could work!
I use the electric drill when I make carrot salad:
    - electric drill
    - fork for the electric drill
    - spiral cutter
    - carrots
    dressing:
    - apple vinegar
    - sunflower oil
    - honey
    - salt and pepper
    - dill
use the electric drill and the fork to hold a carrot. use the electric drill with the spiral cutter to cut thin spirals from the carrot. mix the dressing-ingredients and the carrot together and you have a nice salad :)

Not really... he's wearing plastic and has a bowl of cold water 'in case something goes wrong'. If something went wrong he'd have burned down the house with a fireball (water over oil fire = explosion) and he'd be in hospital with the plastic fused to his skin...

Haekathe I think the water was in case of him burning his hand. I could be wrong I'm just going off the fact that he said ice cold water.

The whole point of chilling the potatoe in the 3 times cooked chips is to remove as much moisture from the surface, that's why you put them in the fridge not the freezer.......the fridge is very dry, you want the moisture to evaporated from the surface not freeze.

The numbers arent the speed but the maximum torque value. 1 being the smallest torque until the clutch disengages, 13 being the highest. The speed is controlled by your finger pressur and often you can also find a switch on top switching between 1 and 2, 2 being the highest speed. The drill sign locks the clutch, so you have no risk that your clutch slips while drilling.

Your wife Is the only woman which can come home after a long day, see her husband in poncho and wielding gloves frying giant piece of godknowswhat and say without irony: "wow, thats cool."
    God bless that woman.
