    Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
    Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
    Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

    Love this recipe. I've just made the whipped sugar scrub using the soap paste base - it's magic. I made it in my Thermomix (I don't have a stand mixer), turned out perfect - and in about 30 seconds LOL . I watched it twice, and was wondering what ewax was as I wrote it down. Wasn't until I watched it the second time I realised it was emulsifying wax. Doh. Can't wait to try this one. You're a gem Mrs S&C.

    I have never, ever seen a sugar scrub made this way! I personally make a luxury lotion basically then add sugar or walnut scrub, or whatever I'm using. I also make my own foaming bath butter and make scrubs from that. However, this is a totally new way for me to observe being done. Very interesting. With no water, huh? I was intrigued!

    I started making soaps and stuff for my family 2 years ago. I made 1 item with e wax and failed terribly I simply melted and stirred the oils and waxes together thinkng that was enough to combine them. I should have done as you and used the stick blender to combine. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I will be trying again now that I understand my mistake

      Hey! I use optiphen ND for everything these days. It’s a broad spectrum, suitable for most projects, and is not a formaldehyde donor. I get mine from brambleberry, whenever it’s in stock!

      Hi! Thanks for watching! I use the recommended guidelines for leave on products for a scrub, which can vary from company to company. I typically use companies that have a 1-5% usage. :)

    • @AveryKait
      @AveryKait Před 3 lety

      @@MrsSoapAndClay thank you very much. (I know I sound mathematically challenged) but how much would a 5% usage be in ounces for this recipe? And will this measurement give a strong scent?

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  Před 3 lety

      It definitely gives a strong scent throw; the benefits of making a scrub or lotion over a cold process soap is that you aren’t contending with the rather violent saponification process that tends to eat the scent, so a little scent goes a long way. I think this batch was a 1 lb batch, so anything between .5-.8oz of scent would be very potent. :)

    I wonder...In terms of product management, what is the reason behind making all the different types of scrubs (solid, whipped, emulsified)? Does it answer the needs of different types of customers?
    Otherwise, isn't creating competition between your products and diminish the potential of sales?

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  Před rokem +4

      I think it has a lot to do with the client base and their needs. Solid scrubs are great for the eco friendly crowd that don’t want packaging, emulsified scrubs are great for the over 50 crowd that are used to their scrubs being oily, and the whipped are great for the millennials who want the pretty frosting type as well as a cleansing factor to their exfoliation routine.
