- In 1980, News 8’s legendary reporter Larry Himmel gave us a two-part feature on a trip to Ensenada, Mexico and the world-famous Hussong’s Cantina. The first part of the video features Larry on the road from San Diego discussing some of the history and attractions of the area. In the second part, things got a bit more wild with Larry experiencing a “typical Saturday night at Hussong’s.” The bar was full of patrons who came for the cheap beer and tequila. They told Larry they were there to “party,” “get crazy,” and “find mamacitas.”

You will never be forgotten Larry.
I Remember seeing Larry Himmel along with an older gentlemen, probably his father, using the same kind of clothing with suspenders at the Agua Caliente Racetrack Turf Club in Tijuana around 1984.
My girlfriend and I lived in San Diego 1990 and went to Ensenada for the 4th of July weekend. We were the only two people in Hussong’s at noon that day. I forgot that it is a gringo holiday lol. Legend has it that Larry is still holding that shot of tequila
Great video.. love & miss Larry!
Woah!!! These are much different people than the American kids that listened to hip hop and flocked down in the late 90s early 2000s.
oh the start of the 80's.. Wish I could remember some of it..? :)
Don't we all! ;)
Was there 2 weeks ago
Thanks Larry !! I found my cream girl in there in 1979
4:05 In other words...sausagefest! 😂😂😂
Crammed into an old wooden building stuffed with drunk humans !!! Damn... I'm missing out
Sober now, wasn't then😂
Back in the day I went to ride the Rosarito to Ensenada bike ride. After 7 miles, my bike broke. I ditched my bike and hitched a ride to Ensenada.
Two guys from LA picked me up and we partied all the way.
My girlfriend was pretty pissed when I finally arrived.
Our ride back from Ensenada was a 1970 Chevrolet. We were driving 90 miles per hour up the toll road. I told her this was a bad plan, she said she was almost out of gas so she had to hurry....
She ran two stop signs in Rosarito and got pulled over at the police station. She ran into the station to fix things.
She came out and said it was $300 .
I said good luck and hitched a ride back to TJ and points north
ENSENADA
Calling Puerto Nuevo “Newport” is wild
It's just a brothel disguised as a bar tbh.
Loved going down there way back when. Now, you'll end up kidnapped, or worse. Sad.
BS.
@@salvadorgonzalez405I heard the cartels run Mexico now.
@@salvadorgonzalez405 No, is true... is true.
