    You fair dinkum want to know what's available now and what's coming in the very near future? Don't believe the marketing guys, get real and find what fits you. The GWM is quite incredible, exceptional value and - keeps telling me what to do!!! Damn. I's not for me - but what is? I'll keep looking - anyway, test driving new vehicles is fun!

    Listening to what you're saying about this Roothy I think its time people learn to work on and love their old vehicles. Too much Tech controlling things, Too many things that could be a huge problem when off road etc. If I couldnt have my car towed last year when I broken down in Lithgow I would of been stuck 7km up a 4wd track with no hope.

  • @dtnicholls1
    @dtnicholls1 Před 2 lety +16

    I reckon I might have said this before, but it's not just about how good the car is, it's about how good the service is from the manufacturer and their dealers when something eventually goes wrong.
    It's a complicated bit of kit, even without the electronics invading every system in the vehicle. At some point sooner or later something will break or wear out, is that dealer going to be there in 10 years with the parts on hand? Is there going to be more than one of them left in each state?
    I reckon that you've also got to look at how good the engineering is on these things, and what the history of the company looks like.
    No manufacturer is immune to failures, not one of them has always done the right thing when it has gone wrong. VW and emissions, Ford and the pinto and their modern gearboxes, Toyota and DPFs, Holden and the Captiva. For every manufacturer there's a screw up somewhere.
    In general though, the larger manufacturers out of Europe, US, Germany, Japan etc are there when you need them to be, even though it's with a sharp eye on your wallet at the same time.
    I'm not yet convinced that the likes of great wall and Mahindra (cars) will be. And that might be a big problem.
    That's my view, and I'm not going to say it's a bad car or that you shouldn't buy one with your money. I'm going to stick to my 105 with its 1hz though.

    • @JOHNROOTHROOTHY
      @JOHNROOTHROOTHY  Před 2 lety +5

      Yep, stick to the 105 - hard to get anything better. I agree on the manufacturers thing and really the only way to beat the system is buy from an established dealer who'll want to keep you as a customer. Don't put Mahindra in this calss tho, they have a genuine factory distributorship here now since their tractors went berserk in the market.

    My 2021 Tacoma still got a leaver for park/hand brake and rear drum. Many youtube reviewers, who don't even own a 4x4 criticize toyota's rear drum brake option for Tacoma! Toyota still keeps manual and reliable components for people who knows about trucks and is looking for reliability. New generation, however, is all electronics. They choose 10-20 USB ports over a 4WD option. I am glad toyota is still going with old school components for LC, Hilux, tacoma, prado etc.,

    Great Video JOHN ! You do talk sense like a narrator secretly lamenting the demise of go anywhere pure solid built mechanical 4x4s but yet embracing with a smile the new breed of vehicles that cannot be overhauled and renewed like the old ones and certainly won't last their buyers a lifetime of service and memories.
    This "brave new world" of use and throw culture, I reckon, won't last for very long as sustainability approach to materials requires extended usage of one's purchases, only replacing equipment and components which cannot be repaired and that's where the newer avatars of old Toyotas and Land Rovers and Nissan will make a comeback, I hope. For now, the INEOS Grenadier is that shining lamp of possibility of merging modern features with robust technology and solid mechanical build. I hope Grenadier comes true on people's expectations, I hope you get to ride and review it soon. I hope quality prevails over vanity.

    I own a Cannon X with 30000kms. I have always been a supporter of the brand until now.
    I went to the dealer Autostrada in Western Australia, for a service and had them look at a minor warranty issue for a delaminating park brake button, along with recalling for the headrests to be replaced. This work was booked in over a month prior to the service date.
    It’s been over a year and when going to book my 30000kms service I enquired again as the the park brake and it turn out that even though the dealer told me it was warranty and would be replaced they had not even ordered the part and not submitted a warranty claim to GWM/HAVAL. Not only this they did not replace the recall item on the headrests. When I approached GWM/HAVAL HQ I was told it’s my problem and they have nothing to do with it. So basically, your on your own.
    Ok so you might think this is a dealer/service department issue but can you imagine if this was a larger warranty issue and this was the support you expect to receive. I was going to look at a new vehicle next year and I can be sure GWM/HAVAL are off the list. Warranty support is critical to me and this seals the deal. Thanks for no support GWM/HAVAL, if warranty is important to you seriously consider other brands, as GWM/HAVAL do not provide customer support.

    Every week here comes a new car and manufacturer on the market.
    Yep, new all nice and 5 years later it’s scrap.
    Therefore we buy only Nissan SUV Terra and pickups for service cars as replacement for the many 8 and 10 years and older Nissan Paladin SUV which was build like tanks. Good luck with all the electric gizmos, i know where it was made… keep the sunny side up and the asphalt under the wheels. cheers

    To bad the mahindra has bad service, sales and customer support. And the fact that they only take 16inch wheels unless you jack up the torsion bars, modify the front bumper by cutting it or by fitting a bullbar..... you also have the challenge of actually getting one. Not even the distribution manager can give you a date of delivery. You also have to go over it with a fine tooth comb when accepting it. Full of scratches and imperfection from front to back. Mahindra really is the lowest of the low when it comes to quality.

    Love your work Roothy but you won’t convince me with this Chinese made shit, far too much crap to go wrong a week out of warranty mate.
    Fine if you lease it through work but I wouldn’t spend my own personal bank account money on one. They’re just not made to last made, far too cheap a quality. Sure many or most are made in Thailand because it’s cheaper but it’s the cheaper design and product sourcing that worries me with these. And the resale value is absolutely shit because they produce faaaaaar too many too quickly. Like the LDV’s, they produce one off the production line every 6 seconds - that’s right, every 6 seconds !!! China made half decent TV’s, Bluray players and apple products but not cars mate sadly, not yet anyway. Give them another 30 years and they may catch up to the longevity and quality of a now 80 series 😉👍
