I Am The Voice on Thameslink Trains

- Back in the summer, Matt (who runs the on board passenger information systems for Thameslink, and is a voice that you will recognise) asked me if I'd like to be the voice announcing the Brighton Mainline Closures that are coming up - I said yes!
But actually, I forgot all about it, and it wasn't until I started getting people tweeting me about it that I thought I'd better go and and try and catch myself saying it ...
The "Must play" DfT announcements that are referred to are the 'See it, say it, sorted' ones which play at :25 and :55 minutes past the hour. The female voice that does the other announcements is Julie Berry.
Oh, and if you do travel on the Brighton Mainline you should be aware of the closures! Here: brightonmainline.co.uk/

ell jl same,
This is just the IRL equivalent of Voice actors playing the games they’ve acted in
Imagine the dude behind him wondering why the voice is still talking
The lady's name is Julie Berry. Her voice is found on many trains in the uk!
Does she know?
Was Julie cheaper than Joanna Lumley?
How did he not know Julie Berry? She's an iconic train announcer.
@@qdog568 He didn't remember her name.
Hi chaps. Appreciate I'm very late to the game, but Julie is a very, very long term stalwart of voiceovers. I worked in recording studios in the mid 90s and met Julie (who is an absolutely lovely lady!) many times. She has done literally hundreds and hundreds of informational videos on the BBC, documentaries and so forth over the last thirty years. Her voice is used on the Piccadilly line (since I think 1996) as well as on airlines, other train services and ads.
I was the voice of the Heathrow Connect for many years :-)
Bardzo cool!
That's really cool.
Congratulations dude! That’s my dream
Kensington Chubbs How sad
No you weren’t, I was
Your reaction is perfect when you first hear your voice. It's like your name has been called out on school prize giving day.
The ultimate cosmic joke would be Geoff ending up as the voice of Crossrail/Elizabeth Line.
He definitely needs at least say Purple Train :)
Why is it that I don't know any train line names except south eastern railway?
If the queen did it while she’s still alive that would be godly
@@LolLol-xy4rh whoops
It's probably really awkward to hear your voice on the public transit announcement.
Just imagine being deep in conversation with someone and getting interrupted by yourself!

“Did you say something?”
“No, but kind of?”
@@cometvaudin2850 Well yes but actually no
Or just your own voice not directly from your own mouth

Just had a bad day but Geoff cheered me up 🙂
Yeh same seeing him being the voice of thameslink really intrigues me and makes me happier 😂
Yea If you ever need cheering up watch Geoff!
Hope you feel better now x
The auto announcements still roll when the trains are stabled up in the sidings, so imagine my surprise when walking through a stabled train and your voice came over the PA!

You should record some "The Bus is Moving" announcements.
"The bus is about to.. BUST A MOVE YEAHHHH!"
Loooool almost forgot about that 😂
Does this mean you're famous now?
nah you don't say
Thought he has always been
He has been for a while
There is no difference between being a voice on a random ass train and being a voice behind the speaker box in a mcdonalds drive thru...
Closer to being hated
I think having different voices for different kinds of announcements is a very good idea. On the other hand, I don't know how I'd feel about having voice associated with upcoming closures.
Hey Geoff! at 3:11 you made a mistake, you said "Mill Hill East" instead of "Mill Hill Broadway" ...
Please reply to me Geoff! I'm a fan of all the stations and Calling all stations!

I have no idea who you are, I never came across your CZcams channel, but I can honestly say I was so happy watching this and smiling with you, was exciting hearing your voice! Well done :)
This deserves more than just a thumbs up! Very interesting to hear Matt explain how all the systems fit together.
what an icon, I bet Geoff has a load of easter eggs like this scattered across London for us to find
Wait is Geoff turning London into one of those games where parts of the game are hidden in real life?
2:47 that’s where his voice is
I heard it the other week whilst on my way to three bridges and was like is that Geoff
As I posted on Twitter, I found out your voice is on there as it suddenly played at volume level one million plus 😂 it even deafened my partner over the phone! This video was nice to watch. Railway day for me today, I finally got a job in the railway after passing my interview early this year!
Very well done.😊
This video was far more tense that I’d realised... hearts were breaking until Geoff’s voice finally announced itself!
I knew I recognised that voice. Been hearing it every day twice daily
I took a thameslink from Greenwich to Farringdon for a meeting instead of my usual DLR and when you popped up on the speakers it put a smile on my face. Good stuff Geoff. Good voice for it too.
You are such a delightful child!
Bradley Noneofyourbizz child?
I meant like he enjoys himself so much.
Got this in my recommended. Really glad I did. Your voice used to play all the time when I was on my way into Cambridge.
It's really heartwarming how they can get so excited about trains. God bless their hearts.
Came up on my recommendations a couple of days ago fell in love with all the videos and now I'm subscribed xx
I love Geoff Marshall. And he is so lucky to get to be the voice of ThamesLink!
Wow how cool is that! I honestly think your voice suits the announcements. Awesome!
I love that during the long pause waiting for your announcement I thought “why the hell am I watching a guy on a train waiting to hear his own voice on a PA system”. You had the same look on your face for a brief moment.
Glad to say it was still worth it. I’d be a bit chuffed if I heard my own recording on a train announcement!!
I was the voice at my local ghost train until the owner found where I was hiding
Hi Geoff! I've just recently stumbled upon your videos, I am from Canada and made my first trip to London last year. I loved the tube and I'm so fascinated by the trains and train systems there. I'm glad I found your channel, it's so interesting. I love how excited you got hearing your voice on the announcements for the first time. P.s I was excited too 😅
As someone from Cumbria, I find the amount of public transport down there absolutely mind-blowing!
cumbrian myself! hello!
Hi. :)
Im from the isle of man, we have a single steam train line, an overly expesnive electric tram system that runs like once a week and horse trams on the promanade of the capital. Their is nothing but a few buses conntecting to the part i live :,)
I’m also Cumbrian but luckily live near to Carlisle’s so have (kind of) access to trains to most places
Great video! So nice to see your face light up when you heard your recording playing! Keep up the great work, and thanks for chatting and signing my and Rocco's books at Acton Town open day! He really loved the purple train lyric! Luke :D
This is brilliant, been hearing you on my commute everyday!
When I heard your voice on my train, I was so excited and happy. My boyfriend was looking at me a bit funny but I was so happy
I work on these trains in the South East, so I hear that voice a lot. Glad to be able to put a voice to it.
I was sitting on the train watching this and your announcement just came on at the same time 😂 Fantastic!
Most natural and good quality. Greatly enjoyment and made me in these dark times lift my somber face into a smile. Cheers👍
At my local station, a thameslink calls, terminates, then goes back to kings X.
I'll see if I could hear it.
P.s thanks for signing my copy of your book at the Acton Depot, love it!
so where's your local station?
Sorry m8 i wouldn't share that online
@@joshyfowler1997 Work it out, there aren't that many combinations of said description. Anyway, why is it of any innocent interest to you where someone online lives?
there's 4 different stations that fit that specific description, hence why i asked. also out of curiosity. i suppose their station is all four different stations and none at the same time :)

I thought I heard your voice on my train from St. Alban's City to Farringdon the other day!
Amazing woohoo ❤ Congrats Geoff 🎉 ❤
Love from London, England 🇬🇧 ❤
Great stuff, Geoff Marshall - I only get to visit the "Great Metropolis" once a year or so, but am fascinated by the Tube, DLR, Overground AND the Buses, all these quirky pieces make this (Old) Dorset Country Boy laugh. Keep it coming, please.
I was the voice of the NHS switchboard (please press 1 for this, 2 for that) for many years and every time I rang my own office, I had to listen to myself saying which number to press. It was a good icebreaker at parties!
I clicked on this by accident but stayed because I highly enjoyed it, new sub
One of your best ever videos, great stuff.
I love how passionate you are about specific thing such as transport in London
The *trams* at the beginning made me laugh so hard, I’m not sure why. Thank you, CZcams Recommendations, for this art.
I've always loved the story of how TfL kept the old "Mind The Gap" announcement at Bank station because the widow of the guy that recorded it liked to go to the station and listen to her husband's voice.
I have been watching a lot of your videos. Yesterday I took a Thameslink from Westcombe Park to Blackfriars and I recognised your voice announcing the Brighton works as we were at Maze Hill.
Sitting on the train Tuesday bromley south to Blackfriar with a big smile on my face when I heard your voice 😀
I imagine Geoff saying "I am the voice of the Thameslink trains" like "This is the voice of the Mysterons" off of Gerry Anderson's Captain Scarlet.
I'm actually so happy this was in my recommended, I use this train alot and i'm in awe. I'm a Celebrity here ya come mate!

Been in London for a month and a week and I’ll definitely miss. Thameslink. It’s great to finally associate somebody to the voices of the Thameslink announcements. I stayed in Borehamwood and this makes me think of my entire stay.

Geoff face is da cutest wen he realises he hears his own voice 👍🏾😎
this is the most wholesome video I've watched all week
Julie Berry was the woman's voice. She was my favourite female voice over in the studio, not just because she is a most brilliant voice over, but she was incredibly silly too.
You've truly made it!
Surely Geoff's voice should inform passengers when they pass an allotment .
Watching this was a rollercoaster of emotions
Wonderful, the delight on your face is a delight to behold.
2:24 Me wondering when dinner is
Your Voice is so nice on the Thameslink! ❤
Idk why i am watching this but i’m very glad i did, i love both of your voices😍
Hello from America! Great camerawork Geoff. Good video
i find this hilarious that this is in my recommended. i live in borehamwood + every time i’m on the train into central i always say the hendon platform announcement word by word. it’s weird to put a face to the voice hahaha
Haha! I knew it! I was on the thameslink a few weeks ago and thought "Hang on, isn't that..."
Wow CZcams are killing it with the recommended, actually loved this!
Nice video I heard this on my train from Cambridge North to Royston. Never knew that was your voice until today
This is so cute and I don’t know why
Jeremy kyle trying to take over the train circuit now
OMG I got so excited to hear your voice there !!!!!! almost cried !!!!!!
Strange coincidence with my early life. We lived in North Finchley in North London but my Dad worked in Beckenham. You opened with a shot of Beckenham Junction, where I've never been but which must have been intimately familiar to my Dad. Next minute you're on the Thameslink right in our area passing through Hendon! (I think Thameslink was after my Dad's time.)
Here before 1 Million
Because this is popping up all around my recommendations and i don’t know why
Imagine if everyone was trolling him so he sat on a train all day waiting to hear his voice 😂
This is the most popular video on your channel. So well done ❤
Julie Berry is the voice I will attach to my first visit to the UK because she done the Piccadilly Line voiceovers. And good on ya, Geoff!
Heard you last week on my way to Brighton ,coys

LOOOOL I’m so ill of the cold right now but this cheered me up! So thanks !:)
I think about this kind of thing whenever I am at a train station (5 days a week!), so this was great for satisfying my curiosity.
I am from Scotland so I get the nice ScotRail voice at our stations.
It’s 1 am and this is getting recommended
I knew it! Was waiting for the admission
I'm still jealous of you for this! It's my favourite line too as I've often gone to Elstree and Borehamwood because of the studios.
Nice job, Geoff - very clear enunciation, and just the right amount of positivity.
i got recommended this today 1 year later.
You earned it!
I have heard interviews with other voiceover artists who have heard their voice on a train, and it's pretty cool to think about.
that’s amazing! This made my day and it’s only 1:30 am!
2:15 her name is Julie Berry
She's on the picadilly lines
She's on just about every line in London and the south east!
She was the voice of BT , but you can now hear her on many things , including lifts. Also on phone systems when she says “ one moment please “
spinba11 I thought her name was Sonia (as in gets on ya nerves!)
Her voice always reminds me of Joanna Lumley
That’s cool actually
That’s so cool, imagine being the voice on a train. Nice video man 😊
Well done , very nice of the man to offer you a opportunity to do a voice. x
So what was the answer the questions why only announced on some days and not others?
